Ack! Poor Bradley. I always found that part of the Narnia books depressing and this is even worse!
I fudged it all in my head by having time pass (I didn't even think of Narnia in connection to this) and essentially deciding that Arthur would have found a place for himself in the modern world. Then, if they were switched back, Merlin could come and get Bradley again. The bond that Merlin and Bradley have in this story seems much stronger than the one that Merlin and Arthur had.
I'm afraid that I'm a flag-waving happy ending fan and, in my head, I'm always retconning things so that the characters can have them. It helps having magic involved here.
