board games and music can save the world
My dad came back from his conference with these educational board games that they're gonna pilot out in Ring of Fire countries to help kids learn how to survive natural disasters. They're sort of cracked-out, but awesome and chock-full of nuggets of wisdom. It tells you things like move forward 2 spaces when you boil your water before drinking it, and sends you back 2 spaces when you don't listen to the emergency broadcasts that tell you when it's safe to go back to the coast. So, where do I send in my resume to get a job designing life-saving board games?
Meme time! Also music time! This is the one where I post 5 songs that begin with the same letter, but I've posted 6 instead 'cos why not.
marycontraire gave me the letter L.
1. Thomas Newman, "Lunch With The King"
Upbeat instrumental from the American Beauty soundtrack.
2. Paris Combo, "Lettre à P..."
A jazzy waltz, a love song to Paris.
3. Citizen Cope, "Let the Drummer Kick"
Sorta hip hop. I first heard the song watching the dance team perform to it and I was filled with feelings.
4. The Chemical Brothers feat. Noel Gallagher, "Let Forever Be"
I know ya'll miss big beat, don't lie. I can dance to this song all day.
5. Idlewild, "Little Discourage"
Rock. For kids who are angry! But not that angry.
6. Macadamia, "Lobby Jam"
This one is a strange duck. I found it wandering around last.fm, and it's some English guys hanging out trying to find a groove. They leave their conversation in ("We need lyrics. You got any?" "What, off the top of my head?" "Let me play my trombone!"), and they start-stop their way to a funky jam. They're adorable.
Comment to this if you want a letter to upload 5 songs with. And also if you wantto make a Dreamwidth account 'cos I still have that one invite code, BUELLER ...maybe a hug?

Your board games remind me of my Natural Disasters class -- after the midterm, my professor went, "Every time I grade a test, I make a note of how many of you would have died. Twenty of you would have died! YOU GO TO THE TOP OF A HILL WHEN AN EARTHQUAKE HITS AND YOU ARE ON A BEACH. I am teaching you how to survive a natural disaster!"
Needless to say, "What is the most important thing you have learned in this class?" was a question on the final. (And afterwards, he posted on his website: "Hopefully, those of you who said that open fields and golf courses would be safe places to go to avoid a lightening strike will survive the next thunderstorm.")
