I feel like the first many episodes were just the writers just threw in all the ships they could at the wall to see which one sticks. Like, towards the end of the series, you barely see any Arthur/Morgana or Merlin/Gwen vibes anymore.

And then like he'd get stocked for some stupid reason (probably dealing with Arthur) and Will would just like lean against the stocks and be smug.
XDDDDDDDDDDD bestest!

The rough draft of Will and Arthur hunting, originally spammed to [livejournal.com profile] mrinalinee's LJ, is like this:
In a stroke of genius/idiocy, Merlin cuts a hunting trip and Will substitutes as in his place. This is a surprise for both Will and Arthur. Merlin has always hated hunting, and Will has always enjoyed this sort of thing more anyway. Maybe Arthur and Will can sort out their differences while they kill some defenseless woodland creatures, and Merlin has the afternoon off to practice magic some more. Perfect!

Arthur finds Will surprisingly competent. Eventually, they forget to bicker. As a team they track deer, and when Will goes "shh!", Arthur takes care to avoid dry leaves, and when Arthur tells Will to go slowly, he does.

Before they make their way back to Camelot, they stop to rest in a clearing. Arthur says you're pretty good, and Will says yeah well, we actually had to catch our own food, you know, back in Ealdor. Wasn't just a game to us. And Arthur gets this sort of gutted look on his face, and maybe goes on a spiel that touches upon Camelot, and his people, and the love he has for his country, and the duties of a king. Will is like, Oh no, here we go... But to Will's surprise, Arthur actually seems to believe in the stuff he's saying. When Arthur talks about the things he'll do as king, he actually seems... sincere.

Okay, then they go back to Camelot, and Merlin finds them and is like, "How was the hunting?"

"'S all right," Will shrugs. "'Cept for how his majesty here makes as much noise as an elephant stomping through the underbrush."

"Oh is that so, Sir I Am SURE The Deer Went Left?" Arthur retorts.

"Well, maybe I would've been able to concentrate better if you weren't making such a ruckus."

"Excuses, excuses."

Merlin beams. "So it went great, then!"

Then for the rest of the afternoon, Will teaches Arthur how to set better snares and traps or whatever, and debate the finer makes of a crossbow.

EVERYONE SHOULD WANT MORE WILL/ANYONE.
