Whoa. Two characters I would never have thought to throw in a room fic together. And it WORKS. They're evenly matched in something - cantankerousness, perhaps? Brutal honesty? Whatever it is, the wistful quality here makes me half-sad, half-resigned, and just a little bit relieved that all the desperate things happening on the other side of the veil don't touch them as strongly anymore.
