More quotes/fic prompts from Lefort. Just two this time, so I won't cut them. The following are applicable to Arthur, Peter, Aslan, and everyone who loves them.
"[T]hey made kings the object of their love. Theirs was a singular love: ‘an obstinate, blind love which saw all its God’s imperfections as its virtues. Far from being shocked at seeing the human element in him, they were grateful for it. They believed that it would bring him closer to them, that it would make him less proud and less harsh."
"At this point, love values the king above life itself. And it is through the double operation of sacrifice and pleasure that the king’s subjects experience rapture. Love both nourishes their life and justifies their death. It is the image of the natural body, the image of a God made flesh, the image of his marriage, his paternity, his liaisons, his festivals, his amusements and his feasts, but also the image of his weaknesses or even his cruelties, in short all the images of his humanity that people their imaginary, that assure them that the king and the people are conjoined."
Spoiler time!
This episode was WONDERFUL, dead black guy aside. What are we up to, three dead black guys now? Oh show. Do you think in the future we might have East Asian and South Asian people show up on Merlin? I would kind of love that, especially if they don't die. BUT ANYWAY, this episode. My heartstrings were very tugged, and I was constantly fjdlksfjds at Merlin/Morgana and at how mindblowingly hot Morgana was in every single frame she's in. Seriously, she's distractingly sexy.
I was unimpressed with episode 1, but it keeps getting better and better, and this episode is just <333 and apparently next week we will have MORGANA WITH SWORDS and also Lancelot! Lanceloooooooooooot. Lancelot/Gwennnnnnnnnnnn. Man, if there is one thing I like better than Morgana swordfighting, it is Morgana swordfighting in a negligee. KEEP UP THE FANSERVICE, SHOW.
Liveblog!:
The beginning was wonderful creepy!
"I know I can trust you Gaius."
"Yes, of course you can."
DDDDDDD:
MORGANA IS NOT A CHILD. Don't worry, Gaius will brew up a new rufi to make you feel better.
OH BLESS, MERLIN IS BRINGING MORGANA FLOWERS. EVERYONE BRINGS MORGANA FLOWERS. <333333333333
MORGANA DOESN'T NEED ANYMORE REMEDIES.
omg the look Merlin gives Morgana as she stomps angrily out of Gaius's quarters. <333
AUGH THE MERLIN/MORGANA IS TOTALLY KILLING ME DEAD I LOVE IT I LOVE IT LOVE IT.
Last season I was all about Arthur, and Merlin kind of bored me. This season, I am <3ing Merlin more. He is mischievous and clumsy and snarky, and doesn't take things lying down.
MORGANA DOESN'T NEED ANY POTION, THANK YOU.
Who is Arthur's head of guard/right hand knight? He keeps on showing up looking handsome and honorable. I hope your role grows, right hand knight!
"The years before I came here were the loneliest of my life."
OKAY I ADMIT IT, my mind went, "What about Will?!"
lol clumsy Merlin. LOL SLOW MOTION MERLIN. Oh lord. Not the most dignified escape out of Camelot, but that is why AY LOVE IT.
EEEEEEEEE MORDRED. He's... got a lot of chemistry with Morgana. Maybe Morgana just has a lot of chemistry with everyone? Where is the fic where Morgana and Mordred become really really close, and he is sort of her bodyguard, possibly with Oedipal issues about her?
"I've never known Morgana to run from anything." SHE TAKES AFTER HER FATHER. A HUGE PART OF UTHER WOULD DIE WITH HER. This episode insinuates ships EVERYWHERE and SO WELL.
Half the show's budget is spent on smoke machines, I see.
Mordred is fucking cool. Check him out brushing the dirt off his shoulders after screaming the guards to death. Then he, like, SWIRLS HIS CLOAK and leaves. Yay Mordred!
STICK TO GIRLS ON YOUR LEVEL. I'm just kind of eyeroll at Arthur's reaction to Merlin/Morgana (skulking under staircases to give Merlin a talking-to, whatever, you repressed goofball), but I suppose it's to be expected, all things considered. And it is kind of cute, I GUESS.
I ENJOYED THIS EPISODE VERY MUCH. I ENJOY MERLIN/MORGANA VERY MUCH.
WHAM BAM PARKER WHAT A HOTTIE. omg she clean up real good. *_*
"SAVVY." lol oh Hardison. He would totally be a Jack Sparrow fan. What an awful accent. Also, HARDISON HANGING OUT WITH JACK SPARROW WOULD BE THE BEST CRACKOVER EVER.
Calling Sophie! EVERYONE MISSES MAMA BEAR.
AWW EVEN ELIOT CALLS.
GLINDA. lol.
AND THEN HARDISON CALLS
AND SOPHIE DOESN'T RECOGNIZE HIS ACCENT <33
Parker apparently would rather be killed than arrested. Interesting, but also kind of unsurprising.
ELIOT: "I'D LIKE TO HEAR YOU DO AN ACCENT." <3333333
AUGH THE PARKER/HARDISON BEFORE SHE BLOWS OUT THE FLOOR. fldsjfldk. This is the most I've ever been sold on Parker/Hardison. I mean, I'm not quite there, but that was a damn good argument.
I'M NOT HUGGING IT OUT, ICE MAN. <333333
DON'T MAKE THIS AWKWARD. IT'S UNCOMFORTABLE NOW. <3333333333
LEVERAGE IS GOOFY AND DELIGHTFUL.

I am trying not to look at your Merlin response so as not to spoil myself (can you believe I still haven't watched any season 2. whaaaaat)
BUT I THOUGHT YOU MIGHT LIKE THIS if you didn't already know about it

OKAY I ADMIT IT, my mind went, "What about Will?!"
We had an entire conversation about this on camelot_fleet. I think I went with Will not really understanding the magic so it wasn't really something Merlin could express the same as maybe he could with Morgana who has the same kind of SPECUL MAGIC as Merlin. Whereas Will was probably like, "Yeah whatever, magic, so what trouble can we get into today?" which is awesome in it's own way, because I commit to the fact that I will love Will forever for being the first person to find out about Merlin's magic (other than Momma) that totally reacted with COMPLETE acceptance and Merlin's probably never going to get that again.
ALSO THERE WERE DEMANDS FOR A WILL!AU WHICH I THINK, MAYBE YOU NEED TO WRITE, LIKE NOW. BECAUSE EVERYONE AND NOT JUST ME WANTS IT.

willpower? or I've just fallen into hanging out with friends till unreasonable hours, and then feeling guilty and working, leaving no time for Merlin or Avatar waaaaah.
thank youuuu!

Yeah, that pretty much sums up my viewing experience. You know how I feel about Merlin/Morgana. I was flailing the whole time. I also noticed the Mordred/Morgana chemistry! Way to go, Asa! And did you not think he was a little creepy just after he killed those guys by screaming? I mean, badass, but creepy. He possibly gives some of the most subtle performances on show. Which is kind of sad.
Also, Arthur bored me last season, but I'm just starting to like him now! So I guess we're opposites. Although Merlin is still my favorite. And I really love the Morgana/Uther relationship. A lot.
SO EXCITED FOR MORGANA SWORDFIGHTING IN A NEGLIGEE.

!!! I am excited to hear of other Will fans! Hooraaaaaay! Man, I want to have the peace of mind to sit down and churn that out, but I feel so all over the place these days. I already know what happens in my 'Will goes to Camelot' AU! If history repeats itself, I may churn out a couple thousand words of this the night before a big paper is due or sit an interview.

What We Are,
Their Fortune
Marry in April If You Can, which I love and which also has a sequel that I don't have the link for ATM, but it shouldn't be hard to find on her journal.
And there was a modern AU that really entertained me recently, Things You Shouldn't Do With Your Best Friend's Older Sister.

I'm kind of hoping desperately for that then.

Hardison is a woobie and all must bow before his awesome woobieness. Also, I bet he totally thinks Jack Sparrow is hot and reads slash about him.
drive by comment:
And obvs everyone fancies Morgana. because Morgana is so crazy hot that the THEY (aka, the ppl that decide whether or not to include pluto in the solar system and whether polka dots are in this season) are thinking of creating a whole new sexuality. 'lo peeps, I am MORGANASEXUAL. it's pretty much a synonym for possessing eyes.
And am I alone in my annoyance at ARTHUR? What happened to my BB?! I like him better this ep, but he was barely in it. and when he WAS it was just to agree with his father that veritable genocide was an appropriate response to a missing ward. I really don't get what Gwen sees in him atm, no wonder she runs back to Lancelot (wtf!haircut tho, your LOVELY LOCKS, BOY! WHERE ARE THEY?!) I reckon she'd totally be that girl that crushes on ALL the boys in the year level at high school.
But my annoyance at A makes my love of this whole Merlin and Morgana magic!bonding thing grow like Merlin's magic vocab. And my inner feminist likes how they're so EQUAL. I mean, theres the whole crazy powerful magic stuff. But also stuff like how Morgana is so much higher in station, and so strong in personality, that it counteracts the whole female in a patriarchal society thing.
And I have shit I am thinking in my head about self determinism and Gaius and the dragon and stuff, but i cbf writing it.

I wanted to disagree here, but then I remember that, um, yeah she crushed on Merlin, then moved on quickly to Lancelot, then started catching Arthur's eye, and like, \o/. Gwen! Fanonically sensible but canonically a bit boy crazy. She's been flip-flopping on Arthur for a while. First she thinks he's a bully, then she thinks he's going to make a great king, then she's saying he's an arrogant selfish pig, then she's kissing him. I dunno. Are they 15?!

Morgana is fierce yo.
Perhaps just the pretty boys then?
And I know about the Gwen character issue. I didn't want to think it, since it sort of doesn't quite fit with her more sensible aspects. I tend to just assume that she still holds onto her tendency to believe in the best of people and then gets overly emotionally-invested in them, which sometimes feels a bit like a 'crush'/love. And her desire for Arthur to become the 'good king' Uther hasn't been to her makes her feel frustrated and a little trapped: she's seen his potential and everytime he doesn't realise it he endangers her future happiness.
... yup. But I can still see a camera doing a swooping around-then-over-the-shoulder pan of Angel as she writes boys names with lovehearts. DO NOT DENY THIS VISUALLY COMPELLING SCENE.

But other than that, I think this season just gets better! 'Cause we got the start of Gwen/Arthur and I was worried about the randomness of it, but now we see that it wasn't the start, exactly, Arthur's still trying to deal with stuff. Like not being a moron.
Gaius! Oh man, I can totally see why he wants to keep it all secret, his life is on the line and hers and Merlin's--and Uther's well-being, too. And he avoids conflict. But otoh she needs to know, it's good she does now. And holy crap this episode was like Merlin/Morgana with a side of Mordred/Morgana and a grand finish of Uther/Morgana. WHAT. I am loving it. Maybe she runs off with Mordred in the end.
NEXT EPISODE HOLY CRAP. It has Morgana fighting! And Arthur being worried about Gwen! AND LANCELOT HOLY CRAP. With fighting and screaming and totally exciting things, I can't even wait.
also also on the gwen crushes thread above, I wonder if maybe Gwen is lonely? Like, she's got Morgana but her father is dead, we never see her with anyone else. So maybe she started crushing on Merlin when he got there--he's nice, he's her station, all those things--and then he made it clear he wasn't interested/was too dense. And then Lancelot showed up and treated her, you know, like an equal, and we know that's something she wants, and then she and Arthur were complicated. And then maybe she's back with Lance or he's with her, I dunno, but I wonder if a lot of it is just that she's starved for someone to be there, you know? (Lol, my interests in this show: Gwen, Uther, Gaius. Although after this I am starting to love Morgana/Mordred, that whole thread and stuff, and also how much does the Dragon see? Like can he actually see the future or does he only see, like--like he sees possibilities? So he can say, kill her, it would be better. And then I wonder, is that supernatural seer possibilities, or is he just good at seeing that a boy with Mordred's power, brought up in a country where his family is routinely killed and his own life is threatened, will grow up to be a threat to Arthur? So how reliable is he, and what is his motivation really?)
AND NEXT

It's so interesting trying to divine his past from his advice and motivations. He is so used to a life of secrecy, so convinced that that's the only way. Was he involved in a failed coup back in the day? I can't really envision that. I want to know more about the Gaius and Uther relationship, it obviously runs deep.
I can see that, strong and sensible but lonely. Haha, Gwen and Arthur are so complicated. And Merlin proves himself to be kind of goofy, so along comes Lancelot being a kind and simple man, I guess it's difficult not to fall for that, considering. Maybe she crushes on Sir Leon too. Maybe Leon comes over to get his armor mended and Gwen is a little fjdklsf about it. Hmm, I'm intrigued by this side of Gwen, how she is so obviously capable, but also just wants a hug and some making out.
Gah, I cannot wait to find out more about Mordred. I am totally down for Morgana and Mordred running off together. I need Mordred/Morgana fic like, right now.

For real, Uther is becoming a parody of himself. I suppose it's a statement of his descent into madness. I'm not looking for a justification of Uther, but I still hope future episodes will at least sympathize with him.
I actually like this Gwen who has crushes on every boy. I never thought about that before, but it lends an interesting 3Dness to her, the emotional overinvestedness that you mention. A weakness that comes from the same place as her strength. She sees the good in everyone.
