This is the placemarker comment that I should've posted long ago. Sorry about the lateness. You ask a really good question here and I want to do it justice. For serious, this question would pop up in my head during random times of day and demand to be thought about. I have bits and pieces of this written out in my notebook, and I'm not even sure if it speaks to the question directly, but I will transcribe it soon. In the meantime, what do you think is this fundamental disconnect, vague though your conceptions may be?
