some genderfail, some cats, some 90s kids shows, aaaand solstice whining
Signal boost #1: Genderfail from Seventeen magazine. Well, more genderfail than usual. From the 'Letter campaign to Seventeen Magazine- WRITE NOW facebook group': "The November issue of Seventeen Magazine featured a story entitled "True Life Drama: My BOYFRIEND turned out to be a girl!" Rather than use this opportunity to educate readers about transgender issues, it never once even uses any terminology (well, unless you consider the slur "he-she" -_- ) but instead furthers the common transphobic assumption that someone who's gender does not match their sex assigned at birth is a deceptive liar and even compares them (at the bottom) to perverts, drug addicts, and older dad's trying to get someone young w/o disclosing their parental/age status.
Signal boost #2: If you are by Sacramento, won't you adopt some cats this Sunday? Bonus: these are tax-deductible cats!
I don't know why but someone made in-character Twitter accounts for Jonny Quest and Jessie Bannon, and I'm, uh, amused. Also, having just started Season 2 of JQ:TRA, I think I prefer Season 1 because omg Jessie what have they done to you?! And it's more than wearing pink! Whatever, I like pink. But in the first episode, the first thing we see her do is NEED SOME RESCUING. She asks for rescuing from the guys WHO WERE CHASING HER flsdjflsdjfs so of course JONNY has to come save her, and then her father has to come save her, and then Jonny AND Hadji have to save her and just, just jkfjsdklflsd ARGH. And I watched 'Ghost Quest' because Jonny/Jessie make-outs!!! and I am not as compelled as I was because argh the Save Me! Jessie doll (TM) back in non-action. And it's ironic, 'cos I've recently been discussing with some people the other side of the coin of exclusionary definitions of strong women, but pink Jessie brings me back to the one side and argh, because I dunno.
As a kid, I preferred pink Jessie, but now, green Jessie all the way. I'M NOT OVERREACTING AM I?!?! D:
Also why does the show have her make out with Jonny (ghosts made them do it) when CLEARLY it's Hadji she has the hots for.
Also I thiiiiiiiink I'm going to volunteer to write 'Ocean Girl' fic. I wish they'd stop making characters disappear though!
I'm scrapping my Solstice idea again because it has once more turned into something I want to write instead of what the recipient wants to read. I am terrible, terrible at fluff.
