Magic = gay is so there, especially as social commentary and I really do love it when they do that, but I don't know if I would've seen it at first if it weren't for how much fandom plays it up - in fact, to the point where it annoys me. You know, the trope of Arthur discovering Merlin's magic and them revealing/discovering their attraction to each other at the same time. I would really love to see someone seriously screw with this trope. I'm not quite sure how, yet - I can only see it ending in tragedy.
(... ten minutes later and I have 500 words of role-reversal gay-magic-metaphor fic workings. oh god too many ideas and not enough writing time!)

I think I am going to do La Vida es Sueno, with the character Rosaura who dresses as a man and is desperate a lot, and probably El Castigo Sin Venganza, where the protagonist lady wants to be sexually satisfied; for the second one, La Estrella de Seville (the one with the practically-incestuous brother and sister), probably the sister's betrothed or her brother, and with him I don't know, maybe Horatio? or Thisbea from El Burlador de Seville (the Don Juan play). There are so many interesting choices!
