Maybe it's an Abrahamic thing? I don't know as much about Judaism, but Islam means 'to submit'. And I think I get it, I know what it's like to feel relief in submission, but it's not a feeling I have about god. It's why I'm cynical when atheists say things like "I worship nothing!" because I wonder what they really mean, and whether they actually experience what I would consider feelings of faith, but they call it something else. I'm reminded of an Ozomatli concert where I kept on thinking of how similar it is to a Baptist revival meeting.
