I swear I have a post about - or at least inspired by - the finale rattling around in my head, I just never know where to start. So instead you get rec posts, which are more interesting anyway.
Reader Response | Gen, PG13. There are a number of good 5x22 codas out there, but this one is my favorite because cas n becky r frenz. It's funny, touching, and stuffed with truth, and also a love song to LJ fandom. Runner-up is Negotiating With Terrorists (and Other Post-Apocalyptic Adventures) (Dean/Cas, PG13) because it is hilarious.

welcome to where time stands still (the no one leaves remix) | Risa/Dean I guess, though I would argue that it's still gen. PG13. CROATVERSE, MY ONE TRUE LOVE. (Should I start spelling it crote? It's just that I'm reading 'The Impossible Country' right now, and every time it mentions Croatia's demonym, I get cognitive dissonance.) The fic goes into Risa's Filipino background, which I am predictably <333! about. I thought she looked Filipino, but this fic actually made me look up her IMDB page and lo and behold -- Lexa Doig is half Filipino. I feel kinda bad sometimes that whenever I see stories referring to Filipino or Indonesian things at ALL, my reaction is always a knee-jerk OMG SHOUT OUT :DDDD (how often does the Philippines and Indonesia feature in the media I like to consume anyway? not often!) and then I zero in on it for a while. Like right now, when I'm just going on about ~Filipino!!1 instead of talking about her depth of character in the fic.
Family Business | PG13, FBI!Dean/assassin!Cas AU, vid. SET TO ERIK MOTHERFUCKING SATIE FOR MAXIMUM SEXY. (The envelope contains two things: 1) a slip of paper with the name of a motel and the number of a room, and 2) a key. At precisely two drinks past midnight, Dean lets himself into the aforementioned room and spots familiar gloves on the dresser, hears the hiss of the shower from the bathroom. His phone buzzes with a text from Sam -- u make it home ok? -- and Dean lies in the affirmative. Sits on the bed and wonders what the fuck he's doing, and how much longer he can keep at it before the world takes him down.) ...Sorry, I needed to get that out of my system. Okay, I think I'm in the clear.
What Always Happened | PG13, gen, spoilers up to 5x17. Forget Castiel's sexual orientation, people. What we should really be worrying about is his temporal orientation.
However Improbable | PG13, gen, spoilers up to 5x21, House crossover. house and cas r frenz! I LOVE THIS FIC TO FUCKING PIECES. Cas and House are grumpy old men who think social graces are dumb. House can't figure Cas out! Cas is... Cas! This Story Needs More Power Ballads | Dean/Cas, PG13, spoilers up to early S5. A clear-eyed explication of ~*Destiel*~ through Sam POV. "At first Sam was pretty pro-angel, and then angels turned out to be dicks, then angels turned out to want to kill him. Then he’d started the apocalypse. Then Castiel had started to...not want to kill him? He guessed? Which seemed like kind of an odd reaction, that Castiel liked him better after he’d unleashed the devil than before. But whatever—gift horses, mouths, et cetera. He’s sure it’s just bleedover from Castiel being totally in angry-angel-love with Dean." Reading this fic is kinda like looking in the mirror.
Ten Thousand Miles | Gen, PG13, S3 AU. "On December 28th, 2007, Sam Winchester walked out of the motel room he was sharing with his brother and never came back. This is the story of what happened after." There is something Kafkaesque in the tragic absurdity of the situation. Deftly written and wholly engrossing.
A Pathless Land | PG, gen, 5x16 coda. Lovely and intricate and <333.
Say Uncle | Dean/Cas, R, spoilers up to 5x14 though I guess it's AU now. Castiel is losing his mojo so Dean teaches him to fight like a human. This fic is fucking guh. The push and pull, the sexy, the incitement to keysmash.
A New Country | Dean/Cas, NC17. I don't usually read a lot of porn but good goddamn, this one's beautiful. Dean/Cas on a road trip through the desert? Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, guys!
We hung our wings on the wall | Gen, PG13, spoilers through 5x13. ANNAAAAAAAAAAAAA <333333

The Office: Blankly As Walls | PG, gen but Jim/Pam I guess. Pam and the baby. The fic doesn't try to portray the situation as anything but what it is. An unpretentious, empathetic story, and delightful for its sobriety.
