As for Anna, I'm going to repost something from an Anna vs. Gabe debate I was having with someone:
Anna and Gabe are both fed up with Heaven. I've always seen Gabe's reasons as more personal and Anna's as ethical and political though. The impression that I got in 5x08 was that he was tired of his family screaming at each other all the time. In 4x10 when Anna is asked why she fell, her immediate answer was that she wanted real loyalty, forgiveness, love. Sure, she said sex and chocolate cake, but that felt like afterthought, like joking around with Dean. While Gabe went on about family angst, Anna talked about a distant god and the tyranny of obedience. Gabe boiled down an apocalyptic war to "two brothers who loved each other and betrayed each other", but Anna's view of the world is wider than that. It's not so petty. Gabe just wants everything to be over, but Anna in 5x13 is still trying to save the world even as she's depowering.
