ficlet: summoning (dean/cas, pg13) - but also other stuff!

PARKS & REC FANS, and even non-fans: Tom Haverfoods. TOM <3333 but also EEEEVERYONE <333333 really, everyone in this show is the best.

It's surprisingly refreshing to see asking someone out as not a big deal. The way Leslie went about it? All like "oh, you don't want? No big deal." She was direct, got shot down, and was all "oh okay then", and I didn't realize how lacking the media I consumed was in portraying this kind mature approach to dating. But yeah, it's lacking. Also, points for Ann Perkins! showing up with a different hot guy each time, and it not being a ~slutty thing. THIS SHOW DOES WOMEN SO WELL.

Also, I've watched up to ep 12 on the SPN anime and

In SPN anime land, I'm a Samgirl. It's kind of hard not to be, considering the anime is the Sam show. He monopolizes the brooding intelligence and manpain while Dean is the buffoon-ish sidekick. There is barely contemplation of things from Dean's POV, and we don't even see him hovering over Sam as obsessively as live-action Dean does. Dean's confession of affection emphasized not Dean's devotion, but Sam's frank surprise and ~feelings that he is in fact still loved. It would all be really wonderful if the dialogue and storytelling weren't so goddamn corny.

Seriously! I know anime dubs are prone to corniness, okay, but the THING IS this anime has so many other things going for it e.g.
- a more explicit contemplation of Sam
- MINOR CHARACTER BACKSTORY :DDDDD (Lily! Meg's mother! who is Catholic, I guess!)
- STANFORD ERA FLASHBACK EPISODE!!!!!!
- John episode!
- gorgeous animation
and yet the war is lost for want of better storytelling. aww, lol, i can't beat up on the anime though - it would be like kicking a puppy. Actually, this anime is the live-action's bratty sister who gets drunk on embarrassingly sweet drinks then tells you ALL OF SHOW'S SECRETS.

Anyway, I am enjoying it. Stop looking at me like that. Also, I really really want to know what Jared's sincere thoughts are on this whole thing. Like, really. Really.

And lastly, a D/C snippet [livejournal.com profile] smilla02 made me write because she knows what's good for me <3. It's so short that I just posted it straight to [livejournal.com profile] deancastiel. I keep wanting to write post-Frontierland D/C but MAN it seems like these last few episodes are going to reveal so much that I hesitate to start anything for fear of being immediately jossed.

Summoning
Supernatural. Dean/Castiel. PG13.
The past year has not been kind to either of them. ~339 words

It's 3 AM and he isn't answering your prayers.

Oh and hey, while it's still poetry month, Margaret Atwood contemplates the evolution of Dean/Cas:

Eventual Proteus

I held you
through all your shifts
of structure: while your bones turned
from caved rock back to marrow,
the dangerous
fur faded to hair
the bird's cry died in your throat
the treebark paled from your skin
the leaves from your eyes

till you limped back again
to daily man:
a lounger on streetcorners
an iron-shiny garbadine
a leaner on stale tables:
at night a twitching sleeper
dreaming of crumbs and rhymes and a sagging woman
caged by a sour bed.

The early
languages are obsolete.

These days we keep
our weary distances:
sparring in the vacant spaces
of peeling rooms
and rented minutes, climbing
all the expected stairs, our voices
abraded with fatigue,
our bodies wary.
