lol this got long
I think I just got jossed by urban development. In my "Cas finds God in Manila" fic, he finds God in Greenhills, but I went there today and my god, they have completely revamped the place. It's bigger than I remember. Do they even still have the pond with the bridge and the adjacent chapel anymore? Maybe Cas was traveling through space-time and looking for God in the Manila of a few years ago. Manila, you move fast.
Anyway, let's talk about the opposite of jossed.
- CAS, and HIS ISSUES, and how these issues will DESTROY THE WORLD. HOW VERY WINCHESTER OF HIM.
ALL MY FAVORITE FICS ARE BECOMING CANON. I guess they are also Sera's favorite fics?! SERA, HOMEGIRL, IF YOU ARE READING THIS - and you totally are, just like how you totally read my friends' LJs and creep on our commentfics, you creeping creeper - MAY I SUGGEST SOME MORE FICS FOR YOU TO KRIPKE? How about some Clairestiel? Some TFW:TNG, perhaps? By any chance have you heard of
blindfold_spn? By the way, nice touch with Cas getting depowered the closer he gets to their quarry. I enjoyed 'Tin Soldier' too!
GUYS, the big bad this season? Is CAS.

- RELATEDLY, I TOTALLY CALLED CAS AND CROWLEY BEING IN CAHOOTS. I bet Balthazar introduced them. I bet he was like, "Cas, I'd like you to meet a business associate of mine. I think he can help you win the war." I was maybe shipping Balthazar/Crowley a little bit, ngl, which was one of the reasons Crowley's 'death' in 6x10 made me sadface. BALTHAZAR AS CROWLEY'S APPRENTICE, Bal being all enthusiastic about it, and Crowley being eyerolly but amused.

BUT NOW I ALSO SHIP CROWLEY/CASTIEL LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. Dude, Cas has got Balthazar on one shoulder and Crowley on the other, and they're both telling him terrible things. WHAT IF it's Balthazar who's telling him, "Fuck all this, let's go get drunk and have an orgy," and Crowley's the one who tells Castiel to stay focused? In a self-interested way, I'm sure. What is Crowley getting out of this? Okay, I just want the fic where the three of them plot regrettable things over expensive drinks in a fancy bar. Cas declines a drink himself, so Balthazar orders him a Shirley Temple.
- LOL WHEN DID SAM GET AN IPAD? Did he stand in those ridiculously long lines to get one? Did he make Dean stand in line with him? Was Dean initially like "this is stupid" but then he keeps borrowing it because it is omg the coolest and Sam has to be like, "DEAN GIVE IT BACK I NEED IT TO SAVE THE WORLD." Dean replies, "OH SHIT THIS THING PLAYS MOVIES TOO??"
- This is ridiculous. This NEVER happens to me in my fandoms. Narnia canon vilified Susan. Merlin canon vilified the sorcerer uprising, and Will was a non-issue. I always had to fill in the blanks myself. This may come as a shock to you, but Castiel is my favorite character. I'm so used to fangirling supporting characters that I'm pretty pleased with the little we do get of him, especially if it includes ANGEL REVOLUTION and ESPIONAGE and QUESTIONABLE ALLIANCES. OMG MORALLY CONFLICTED CAS HAS HIS OWN AGENDA and I am like :DDD.
I never expected canon to embrace Cas as it has this season. Letting his character develop, giving him a significant role that isn't simply the Winchesters' nerdy sidekick, giving him a context and a sense of purpose that are VERY MUCH HIS OWN. Seriously? It's not just my Casgirl goggles when I say that they're portraying his downfall as more than just an about-face to mustache-twirling, cloak-swinging evil, right? The story emphasizes the cost of his victories. He is losing himself. (Or is he? You can also argue that he is exactly who he's always been: someone who - despite questioning his mission - is a zealous guy who has issues with his inability to serve the bigger picture.) He is not yet evil, but depending on what 6x20 shows us, he may be well on his way. The path of good intentions will eat him alive.
This is like if C.S. Lewis came back from the dead and decided to write an eighth book from Susan's POV. This is like if Will went to Camelot at the end of 1x10, and this is if Edwin, Sofia, Tauren, et al. came back from the dead and became Morgana's awesome advisors. In short, I DON'T NEED TO WRITE FIC BECAUSE IT'S UP ON MY SCREEN, BEING CANON.
Not that I'm justifying or excusing Cas's actions. I think Cas is immersed in a lot of wrong no matter what his intentions are, but that's kinda the beauty of it. Many historical figures have started out in Cas's position only to become like the despot they overthrew. Their quest for what's right warps along the way into a quest of self-righteousness. I am not holding Castiel up as a pinnacle of morality, but rather as a surprisingly engaging portrayal of what happens when the abyss looks back at you. WILL HE MANAGE TO PULL BACK FROM THE EDGE?! WILL HE SURVIVE THE FINALE??! ONLY TIME WILL TELL. DUN DUN DUNNNNN.
- Remember when Cas was in handcuffs? Remember when he spent most of his screentime spattered in blood? Those were good times.
- JEFFERSON STARSHIPS. LET'S HAVE DEAN NAME ALL THE THINGS.

- Speaking of Dean, can we take a minute to appreciate the "This is Cas we're talking about" line? I can't believe canon actually gave us Dean being blind to Cas's faults AND YET HERE IT IS. And I'm not talking about being a trenchcoat baby or being dumb at pop culture - that's playground shit - but the integral and more profound faults that make us who we are. DEAN. IS BLIND TO CAS'S PROFOUND FAULTS. DEAN'S FACE AND VOICE WHEN BOBBY AND SAM WERE IMPLICATING CAS? HE CAN'T WRAP HIS MIND AROUND THIS SHIT. THIS IS CAS THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT. CAS, WHO RAISED HIM FROM GODDAMN PERDITION, JESUS FUCKING CHRIST. AND NEXT WEEK DEAN IS GOING TO MAKE THE WORLD'S BIGGEST :C FACE AS HE TELLS CAS TO SAY IT AIN'T SO. LOOK HIM IN THE EYE, CAAAAAASSSSSlsjdklajsdk
THIS IS CASTIEL PRAYING. FUCK. THIS IS HIS PRAYER AND NO ONE IS GOING TO HEAR IT, except us because we are going to watch this promo approximately 249382759834759089327598345375 times before next Friday. UNF, WHEN DID THE CW START ALLOWING PORN??
I LOVE CROWLEY SAYING "HOWDY PARTNER", like he just loves rubbing it in that an angel has turned to a demon for help because he knows it gets under Cas's skin. Crowley has seen all this before, the righteous person convinced of their own righteousness, righteousnessing their way straight to Hell. Cas has a lot of feelings, but he is kind of dumb at them. (HOW VERY WINCHESTER OF HIM.) He has little experience with emotional subtleties and variations of the spirit, and he is walking the path that many would-be saints have danced down before.
Because really, Cas, how much longer can you maintain this division between actions and intentions? You like to think you're a good person who does bad things, but you can only do so many bad things before you have to face the possibility that you are maybe a BAD PERSON. AND THAT IS THE CRUX OF THIS DELICIOUS WOE. HE IS TRYING SO HARD TO BE GOOD, YOU GUYS, AND THE HARDER HE TRIES, THE MORE HE FAAAAAIIIILLLSSSSSS. THE CLOSER HE IS TO TRIUMPH, THE CLOSER HE IS TO DOWNFALL.
Here is the real question: what is it exactly that he is betraying? The Winchesters? Himself? His brothers and sisters? God? Humanity? Whose beliefs? Whose family? Which relationship?
In conclusion: Sera Gamble, will you marry me?
Anyway, let's talk about the opposite of jossed.
