SOMEONE MAKE ME WRITE CAS/ANNA INCESTUOUS HUNTERS HUMAN!AU

I've seen of Merlin 3x01 and TVD 2x01. I don't have enough feelings to make a whole reaction post, but feel free to engage me in comments about it. As is the usual biz these days, my feelings have been hijacked by this other dude, what's his name. I think it's Cass?

I kinda wanna write Cas/Anna pseudo-gen episode tags like there's no tomorrow, but I am lazy, so I will just idea-dump. Maybe this will become fic when it grows up.

- Dean&Cas is actually just Cas&Anna in disguise. 4x22, "There is a right and there is a wrong here, and you know it," Dean says, and Anael said those words once too. Before she fell, she had challenged him. As friends, they debated and discussed, and they kept each other's questions safe from those too ready to call it blasphemy. Cas didn't fall with her then, but her words and her conviction stayed with him, and he'll fall for her now. For her, for Dean, for himself. Anna and Dean are Castiel's gadflies. In a way, Castiel has been waiting for this moment for years. Never fear to do the right thing. So Cas cuts into Jimmy Novak's arm, and finally, finally, does the right thing. Here's to a second chance.

Also, also, when Cas said to Dean, "We've been through much together, you and I." <-- EXACTLY WHAT CAS TOLD ANNA.

- 4x01, Castiel and Alastair duke it out in Hell over Dean. In 4x16, when Alastair said, "I wish I knew how to kill you," he was continuing a previous conversation. ("You don't know what to do with humanity; your kind never did," Alastair said to Castiel, back in Hell. "But here, he is well taken care of. I know Dean Winchester - his viscera and his sins - and all you know of him is the shape of him in your Father's plans.")

Come to think of it, where is the pre-4x16 fic where Cas is setting Alastair up in the trap, and Alastair is taunting him? ("This is what Dean Winchester does to you!" Alastair hoots, half-mad. "You roll him over like a dog, tell him to sit, tell him to fetch, but one day... One day you find yourself caught in a damn devil's trap. One day you find yourself demoted! How delightful!") Cas knocks him unconscious. Alastair was just projecting anyway. (DOTH PROTEST.)

- Speaking of finding oneself demoted, let's go back to 4x15. Dean's arguing about the deaths in the town they just saved, and Cas is being pig-headed about it. "You made an exception for me," Dean insists, as per show dialogue. And Cas replies, "You're different." Next in fic, Uriel makes a big deal about it, because he totally knows Cas's weaknesses and tendencies.

U: Different how?
C: He's the Righteous Man.
U: [Is totally like, "I KNOW WHAT YOU DID, post-4x10, talking with Dean Winchester about how runaway siblings are hard. ~Bonding and shit. He's opening your doorways to doubt. I heard you having feelings. I know you miss our sister. But she is fallen, Castiel, and almost as abominable as Sam Winchester."]
C: She is still our sister.
U: oic.
C: [DEMOTED!]

So yeah, if there are D/C sexytimes, they happen post-4x10. And Cas's doorway to doubt was opened long before he met Dean, by Anna. Dean's got a foot in the door though. XD

- Pre-4x09. When Anna starts wiretapping angel radio, Castiel recognizes the interference right away, recognizes it immediately for his sister. They are in the Philippine cordillera, where a seal has just been saved. At the burst of static, all the angels look up. Blood-spattered, sword in hand, they all look up, listening.

When Anael fell, the angels did a sweep of the universe for her, and Cas was relieved that they didn't find her. Not that he didn't look for her thoroughly. He's a guy who does his job after all. But he was also relieved that she is better than him. She always has been. Anael had prepared well before she fell, had put all the necessary wards in place. That was all Castiel could have asked for, were he to ask for anything at all.

- 4x10! In the moment Anna gets her grace back, Castiel cannot look away from the brightness of his sister. Here she is. Seeing grace enter her is like seeing her fall in reverse. Either way she is leaving him, again, and he won't let himself look away. you, the one i used to know, the one i no longer know, the one i found, the one i lost, the one i'll lose again.

By the time the light fades, and by the time the humans can open their eyes, Anna is gone. For a few seconds Cas just gives himself over to his vessel, breathing in and out, breathing deep. Loss and numbness translated by the human body into this coldness in his chest, weight in his belly.

- Okay, now 4x18! Which is also a set-up for 5x03.
4x18 Dean to Cas, 5x03 Cas to Dean: I need your help, because you're the only one who'll help me.

Dean prays, and Cas has no idea what he can give him, but he comes anyway. Cas is already on a slippery slope here, his door to doubt quite ajar, so it doesn't take suuupermuch to get him to sidestep prophecy for Dean, for his own conscience, for the right thing to do. And even as Cas feels the words coming out of his mouth, he still can't quite believe that Dean can change it, that anyone can change anything. Destiny, after all. This is the will of God, no matter how Righteous of a Man Dean is.

From a distance, Castiel watches in horrified fascination as Raphael descends upon the Toreador Motel. Destiny rewritten. And then Raphael raises his head, lifts his long gaze to the world, and sees Castiel. RUH-ROH.

- 4x20! I would have more wild conjecture on 4x20, but I guess I'll wait until 6x03. Fiiiiiine.
Post-4x20, Sam: Your angel doesn't seem to come around much anymore.
Dean: He's not my angel.
(DOTH PROTEST.)

And at some point, not sure when, Sam and Cas have some sort of exchange about faith.

I'm resisting just taking scenes from the show and rewriting them with an explication of ~feeeeeelings attached, because I don't usually like it when writers do that. But GODDAMN, SUCH FEELINGS. Maybe it's not that I don't have feelings for Merlin or vampires, but it's that I don't love them in the same soul-destroying way as I love THESE GUYS.

Wyrm, the next paragraph is a little bit spoilery for S6, jsyk.

So, I anticipate shipping Dean/Cas in S6 the same way I ship Cas/Anna now. They may have a history, but they're TOO LOYAL AND PRINCIPLED (for the most part) for their loyalty and principle to be trumped by anything, including each other, no matter how much they've been through together. And that's what they respect/understand about each other, no matter how frustrating they find it too.
