Yes! You're right, it's too easy to write pairing fic that is just about the pairing. And it's very untrue to real life, where we have all kinds of complicated social interactions. In that sense SPN is exciting in its claustrophobia (Sam and Dean on the road forever, Dean and Cas and their profound bond no one else will get, ~profound Sassy bondage~ lolol), but sometimes it's just... unrealistically claustrophobic.
