"Sea Salt", narnia, peter&lucy, pg13

I think this one is also long enough to merit its own post. It is also all in lowercase. Why? 'Cos I didn't think ahead and wrote these ficlets all up in the comments of the song meme post like that, and now I am too lazy change it. Ah, posterity.

...Check out also her Edmund&Peter in Narnia fic, Kingly Business.

Sea Salt
Narnia fic for [livejournal.com profile] etsu_88, who knows her Spice Girls as I do. Peter&Lucy on the beaches by Cair Paravel. (Again with the squinting.)

lucy's youth protects her from certain things and it's not a protection she needs, but it's one she appreciates. she takes advantage of the fact that no matter how old she is, she will always be, in many ways, their little girl. she prefers to see it not as protection but as freedom, and lets wildness moves her heart as she runs ahead of peter to the shore, laughing, leaving a trail of shed clothes behind her. maybe peter would've scolded her for it once upon a time, but one doesn't worry about such things in narnia. what he does instead is take off his clothes, too.

the war in the north is over, the giants are bested, but the winter of the mountains has yet to melt from his bones. he has long dreamed of this, the softness of the sand, the glimmer of the eastern sea, the sun shining over it all. when he saw blood turn snow red in ettinsmoor he thought of the white walls of cair paravel, the aegis of aslan, and the love of his brother and sisters, for these are the things he has come to believe would last forever. in the mountains, the only things that are forever are death and the ice.

"let us go swimming, you and i," lucy had said to him, and he didn't even have to think about it. he said yes, he said let's go, right now.

the sea salt stings his eyes and, through the blue of the water, lucy in the distance appears to him as a blur of nubile limbs and golden hair. he swims to her. she floats on her back, eyes closed, water lapping at her sun-browned body and -- because when you are with lucy, her freedom frees you too -- peter pounces on her, not even enough time for her to shriek, and down into the blue they go, tangled in each other all arms and legs and flailing, exuberantly disoriented.

"you beast!" lucy sputters when they surface. "i could've drowned!"

"i wouldn't have let you," peter grins. she just splashes him, and he splashes her back, and they laugh.

DUDE. DUUUUUUUUUDE. oh gosh, i have no words. this was amazing. just, gorgeous and perfect and WONDERFUL and oh, god, wow. the imagery is incredible and lush and, just. yes. i love that the history is practically bleeding out of the words, and it's so... sibling-y, and yet not at the same time. thank you so much!

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2008-10-09 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
thank yoouu! awesome, i'm glad you like it. ya i was going for the "is it sibling-y?" effect on purpose, hehe. i... think i've discovered i like writing peter/lucy. what hast thou wrought upon me?!

PETER AND LUCY OH MY GOD.

Also, oh Peter. I am magnificently in love with that second paragraph. I am going to hold it and pet it and call it George DLF.

*ueses new, depressing icon JUST BECAUSE*

PETER AND LUCY YES
it is my second time writing this pair and i like it more every time i do. she is unencumbered, the strength and weakness of the wind, he is fearless and golden, but they both rather are. fearless and golden, that is.

haha your icon is appropriate considering the content of your recent posts. i had to squint at it before figuring out it was caspian and cornelius.

thaaaaaanks

Omg Peter and Lucy! Whee! They're so...*happy*, it is wonderful. And Peter is so...like, war-torn and tired and so happy to be back and Lucy is so light and carefree, it is perfect.

lucy's youth protects her from certain things and it's not a protection she needs, but it's one she appreciates YES EXACTLY, holy crap. That is so Lucy and her siblings, and I love it.

thanks! the more i write peter&lucy, the more i like their interaction. they're both so stalwart and golden.

Oh, this is lovely! I like the way you show the bond between them, and how they're still children, despite being king and queen.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
thank you! i'm intrigued by their relationship, what with neither of them being as dark (or so i think) as edmund and susan.

Peter/Lucy makes me happy and this was so cute and carefree. I feel beastly now for wishing it was a bit more, but even so it's very cute on it's own.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
thank you! peter/lucy makes me happy too. so, um, you're not alone in feeling beastly? or something.

[identity profile] mydnight-dreams.livejournal.com 2008-10-14 01:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha. Yeah. It's just until I stumbled upon Peter/Lucy shippers while looking at Fandom!Secrets, I had NO like for incestuous couples. I mean even now Dean/Sam on Supernatural just make me gag... But Lucy/Peter, Susan/Edmund, Nathan/Claire, Sylar/Claire (the last two are from Heroes)... I just can't get enough of it now... So beastly, yeah I think that's a good description.

Oh those Pevensie kids. I love them, and Peter and Lucy are a lot of fun together here. Nice, and sweet.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I feel like Peter and Lucy together have a lot of potential as a duo, off being the most golden and full-hearted of Aslan's knights, loving the land, keeping their siblings in line.
