Narnia: between here and there

between here and there
Post-TLB. Susan traveling the world. 156 words. G.

She goes to places that seem like other worlds: places that are awash in color, places that are so hot and humid she thinks she sweats nonstop, places that are so noisy her ears ring, places that are so quiet that it's easy pretend she is the only one alive. The desert reminds her of Calormen, and the Pacific reminds her of the eastern sea. Susan is at home everywhere because she is at home nowhere. None of these places are Narnia, and sometimes this is a relief, especially when she forgets the shape of the absence in her heart: is it her siblings? is it Narnia? is it being queen? Once, she went on safari in South Africa and saw a pride of lions. Her companions oohhed and ahhed but Susan was silent, and just watched the animals, and felt the loneliest she'd been in years.

She moves often.

She is not afraid of change.

Okay so like, I can't even believe this is only 156 words because this sums up post-Narnia Susan perfectly. I love this idea of her, that she thinks of Narnia WITHOUT actually thinking about it, or even always believing it.

Susan is at home everywhere because she is at home nowhere. THAT. My God, THAT is amazing.
