Dreamwidth & Songza
Okay, so, whenever I actually do make some noise about Dreamwidth, it has been of the "meh" variety, but. I am going to stake my claim anyway. Just... in case? Thanks to
stealingpennies, I'm there as whynot, so friend me if you're there, although I don't foresee myself leaving LJ quite yet. 'lassiter' was available, but I'm still avoiding the "Uhhh, so I guess you're a really big Psych fan, huh?" situation. (Trufax pettiness of the day: I don't watch Psych because I'd feel like a tool participating in the fandom with this name.)
Thanks to
be_themoon, I spent waaaay too much time on the superwonderful Songza, making a playlist of songs I haven't heard in a billion years. Oh man. I was buying cassettes well into high school because they were less than half the price of a CD so, when I digitized, all that was gone. (What the hell was I thinking thinking buying 'Beaucoup Fish' on cassette anyway??) Last night was like a musical reunion or something. Hey, remember "So Little Time" by Arkarna?! Remember Our Lady Peace? They were my favorite band (LIKE, CRAZY FAVORITE) and Matthew Good was always shitting on them hahaha oh man Matthew Good! Here is "Strange Days" by the Matthew Good Band. AND OF COURSE, "Burn" by Tina Arena. OH NINETIES.
Other music things that has given me much joy over the past couple of days:
- Cover Me, a music blog specializing in covers. I like remixes and covers for the same reason I like fic. On that blog, I found:
-- Rivers Cuomo and Rainn Wilson covering "One of Us" by Joan Osborne. YOU GUYS. RIVERS CUOMO AND DWIGHT FROM THE OFFICE. COVERING JOAN OSBORNE. jljflsfjsdl <33333 What if God was one of them?? Dwight plays the bongos and he has a little bongo solo! I used to write fic about Rivers Cuomo boning his rhythm guitarist, and now here he is, ALL GROWED UP and still looking vaguely creepy!
-- "It's Not Easy Being Green", in French. Ce n'est pas facile d'etre vert, for real.
That's right: finals seasons means it's time to search for new distractions! My most recent one is Friday Night Lights. I think it's the first time I'm finding the protagonist super-wholesome AND likable. I'm also constantly wondering what's up with Hardiso--oh wait.

2. Landry is also awesome. And he just keeps getting more and more so.
3. Tami Taylor is the best TV mom in the history of TV moms. Tami Taylor is the perfect balance of kind and bad-ass, of always being right and, in fact, not always being right.
4. I over-identify with Julie Taylor so much. Even when she's doing something unforgivably stupid, I can't help but adore her.
5. I hated Lyla for almost all of season one, but interesting things start to happen with her character in season two (and then the writers sort of abandon these things and I was sort of annoyed).
6. Tim gets deeper. Really.
7. Tyra will keep growing on you until you love her so much you don't know what to do with yourself.
BASICALLY EVERYONE ON THIS SHOW IS AWESOME. BUT ESPECIALLY GRANDMA SARACEN. SHE IS PERHAPS THE MOST AWESOME.

I've read some good gen about Landry, Tim, and Matt (but don't touch that until you've seen the episode with the tutoring). And some gen about Jason, Tim, and Matt, post-season finale. I also have a shit-ton of beautiful Matt/Julie in my favorites, because I love them more than I love chocolate milkshakes. So if you ever catch that bug, let me know.
I do believe there is some slash (though I think Tim is more often paired with Street than Landry), and there's some good Coach/Mrs. Coach. But I don't know too much about it.

Cover blogs are kind of awesome -- there are three I stalk, Cover Freak (http://coverfreak.com/), Cover Lay Down (http://coverlaydown.com/), and...oh, that one you just linked to. *facepalm* (Look, I do know what it is I check on a weekly basis.) Cover Lay Down is my favorite, because it's a folk cover blog. (I have also somehow managed to get four different versions of "I Kissed a Girl." Some of them are outright depressing. And the creepiest cover of "Wayfaring Stranger" ever!)

Matt and Julie and Coach and the OT3 of Tim/Lyla/Jason (which becomes WHOA in S2)! AND TYRA. And Tami! And Smash! And Landry!
I do not have time to do anything. Clearly I have decided that this is the perfect time to be freakishly prolific.
Good luck on the stats!

Yeah. Julie and Landry look way younger than everyone else.
<3 Thanks!

Dillon High is closer to what my small-town high school was like than a lot of the other high schools I've seen on TV, in books, or in the movies -- how there isn't a lot of division between, say, the jocks and the geeks and so on and so forth. It's also interesting that there are, like, all of two families that are actually the nuclear family -- mom and dad and kid(s) -- the rest of the families are all fucked up one way or another, which is much closer to real life than you tend to see in Hollywood. And apparently, according to my Texan friends (one of whom lives in the area where FNL is filmed), Texas REALLY IS LIKE THAT.
Just try not to think about the fact that the show later decides that Tim, Lyla, and Tyra are all in the same year as Matt, who is apparently a year older than Landry and Julie but a year younger than Smash.
I...kind of got my mom hooked on this show. We squeed about S3 on the phone together when it was airing!
