HERE BE SQUEE AND SPOILERS. SQUOILERS??
HALF BLOOD PRINCE
omg you guys WHERE TO EVEN BEGIN. LET US BEGIN WITH: DRACOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. To echo, like, most of fandom apparently: DRACOOOOOOOOOOO.
YOU GUYS. He idolized his father and then his father is DISGRACED, and now he has to make up for his father's shame, to be what his father cannot, but ALL DRACO HAS EVER WANTED TO BE WAS HIS FATHER. This is what his father would've wanted, right? -- for the Malfoys to regain their dignity -- and Draco is READY TO SHOULDER THIS DUTY (though he is obviously NOT READY AT ALL), and he will step up to it and he will not FALTER. That scene on the train where he stunned Harry and breaks his nose and is all, "THIS IS FOR MY FATHER"?! OH DRACO, DRACO OH. HE WILL DO THIS FOR HIS FAMILY.
So blinded by the weight of his task, he doesn't even see that this is also a punishment. The Dark Lord is punishing his family through him. To be handpicked by the Dark Lord to do something of this magnitude, it's not an honor, it is a branding. But Draco can't think that way, he must not let himself think that way; he has to think that his family still has a chance at salvation and dignity by the Dark Lord's side. He can't let all that they stand for be reduced to his father's mistakes.
OH MOTHERFUCKING MALFOYS.
That picture in the Prophet of Narcissa and Draco looking SOLEMN?? AUGH MY HEEEAAAARRRRT.
Every time Draco was on screen, all this shone through. JUST. IT ALL SHONE THROUGH. (GOOD JOB, FELTON.) I'm glad that they took out his crying to Moaning Myrtle, that was lame. BUT THE BATHROOM DUEL?? WHERE DRACO NEARLY TOOK OFF HARRY'S FACE BUT THEN HARRY ALMOST KIIIIIILLLLED HIIIIIIIM?!?!?!? aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Draco and his FAILY ASSASSINATION TECHNIQUES. OH DRACO, trying to be subtle and sneaky like a Slytherin, instead of just blasting the king where the whole court can see, as a Gryffindor might have done. I think you like to think you're being slick, son, but perhaps you suspect (though not acknowledge) that you SUCK AS A KILLER, because you're just so full of ~*pain*~. Well, turn that pain into hate and suffering and kill them all, Draco, BUT NO YOU CANNOT. YOU CANNOT, BECAUSE YOU ARE SORT OF A PUSSY, WHICH SUCKS FOR YOU BECAUSE YOU HAVE SO MUCH TO PROVE TO THE WORLD.
Narcissa, I would like to hear more of your thoughts on this matter. What politicking have you done that we haven't seen, in order to protect your family in the aftermath of Lucius's massive fuck-up? By 'family', we can assume that I'm not including Bellatrix. ALTHOUGH. Bellatrix, is still pretty awesome. I would read fic about you, Bellatrix. Hmm, okay, back to everyone else. I looooooooooooove the opening shot of Harry looking worn being photographed by the paparazzi. It feels kinda meta, sort of an allusion to how Harry Potter in our world has as much fame and following as he does in the fictional wizarding world. I KNEW from that moment, from Harry's weariness, that I would enjoy this movie. Well, I also knew that from the poster with Draco on it, YOU KNOW THE ONE.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE HARRY LINES: To Dumbledore, "When Slughorn comes to collect me, do you want me to let him?" Creepy on many levels, but my favorite level of creepy is how it shows Harry slipping quite willingly - almost flippantly - into moral gray area. He's fine being manipulative. Well, son, you learn from the best, isn't that right, DUMBLEDORE. Harry's fine being manipulative when it's Dumbledore who tells him to. AND THEN. The scene where Harry echoes Tom Riddle's conversation to Slughorn? fjkldjlkdjslfjdl. HARRY. A+ FOR MINDFUCKERY.
God, Dumbledore, the way you have made Harry into, like, YOUR PUPPET. For the greater good?! OR SOMETHING??! Dumbledore, you creep-o, stay away from my future kids.
I've never been a Ron/Hermione shipper, but the scene in the hospital where Ron says Hermione's name made me go D'AAAAAAWWWWWWW.
GINNY KISSING HARRY IN THE REQUIREMENT ROOM MADE ME GO D'AAAAAAWWWWW. I've never been much for Harry/Ginny either. I've never been much for latter-day Ginny in the books, but I like that movie makes her strong instead of *~spunky~*.

I like that the Hogwarts dress code doesn't stay consistent from year to year, especially since it means Draco is always in a suit. wtf? Everyone else is in jeans and hoodies, but Draco, he's got the tailored suit going on 24/7, what is that about. OH WELL. CONTINUE PRETENDING TO BE FLY, DRACO MALFOY, IT DOES SO FILL ME WITH feeeeeeeeeeeeeeelings of the keysmash and capslock variety. OBSERVE: JKFLSKF:L:FLK:"SLF:dklsfkd. See that, Draco? You did that.
The revelation that Snape was the HBP was lamely done though. I mean, I know we all know anyway, but I was expecting more build-up.
I think Draco and Arthur need to hang out.

My particular HP-Merlin bunny is only marginally to do with Hogwarts, it's more to do with the evolution of magic in England, and Merlin's sudden reappearance being a big cog in the works for the Unspeakables, and people mistaking Harry Potter for the reincarnation of the Pendragon just because he saved England that one time. And Arthur being in politics. And other completely bizarre things that I am yet to work out.

What about where, even though Draco and Arthur share a lot of similarities, Arthur is still braver than Draco in many ways, and Arthur sort of ends up maybe tutoring Draco out of his moral fail. idek but i SURE HOPE YOU DO. \o/

This is the story, you may recall, which has NO REAL PLOT AS YET so maybe adding in Draco as a character will force some plot to appear! He could meet Arthur at uni because he's taking some muggle politics classes for his Magisterium in comparative social structures or somthing, I can bullshit that no problems, and grudgingly maybe like Arthur a little bit despite his Muggleness, because he has never met anyone -- wizarding OR Muggle -- who acts so much like a Pureblood. And yes! Snootiness with lack of moral fail. He will be a good influence on Draco. And when the situation gets dire they can always get drunk and complain about dark-haired wizards that one would maybe want to shag if they were less ANNOYING ALL THE TIME.
