maychorian's prompt that might as well be a fic: "He has the Devil under his skin. He didn't know it would be like this. The Devil doesn't let him rest, doesn't let him sleep, doesn't let him close his eyes. And he can feel his body rotting."
In the end will be the word, and the word will be: yes.

Lucifer blazes through the world, and with a wave of Sam's hand, empires crumble. With a word from Sam's throat, nations die.
The devil has no time to feel things, to sense them. Lucifer has been planning downfall since Adam drew his first breath, and he has a to-do list a mile wide, written in blood. All the feelings and sensations that there are to be had, Lucifer gives over to Sam.
A gift, Lucifer explains. This is how you know you're still human.
When the devil is engulfed in flames, Sam feels the burning. When claws dig into him, Sam feels his flesh tear. Lucifer marches across the earth, armies of demons behind him, and Sam wishes his legs would finally give out, that his lungs finally collapse. He wants to sleep forever and he wants this with the fervor of someone who no longer allows himself regret. He's come too far entertain to regrets.
Lucifer tells him, Pain is how you know you're still alive.
But there is a decay in Sam that hollows him out, spreading, curling through his veins. There is death within him, and when Lucifer spreads his arms, it flows from Sam's fingertips and reaches outwards toward a darkening sky.

"Let him go!" Dean shouts, the angels' sword in hand. "You son of bitch, you let my brother go right now."
"Your brother has given me his word, Dean," Lucifer says in Sam's voice, and sounds almost apologetic. "I cannot give it back to him."
And when Dean sinks the blade into him, the devil only raises an eyebrow and Sam feels his heart rip apart.
