'Put Your Lights On' - SPN fanmix - Sam & Dean

I'm sitting on a few fanmixes right now. I recently amassed a wealth of music so I'm gonna sit on them some more, and hopefully serendipity will lead me to songs that even better explicate Dean/Alastair and Jimmy/Castiel &c.

I deem this Winchesters mix ready to go though! It spans S5, winks at S6, and is about as full of erotic codependency as you'd expect. I'm still trying to get the hang of this GIMP program, but I think we'll do okay, even if I still get a little misty for Photoshop sometimes.

thisaway to the download thataway also works

01. the cave singers, "dancing on our graves"

oh you and me dancing on your grave
but oh lord, i know what i've done
and oh lord, i ain't afraid

02. the dandy warhols, "mohammed"

again and again
i get up and say
i only want to get it right
i only want to do the right thing

03. tom waits, "the earth died screaming"

the poker's in the fire
and the locusts take the sky
and the earth died screaming
while i lay dreaming of you

04. santana feat. everlast, "put your lights on"

i still got a purpose to serve
so let your light shine, deep into my home
god, don't let me lose my nerve

05. hell is for heroes, "slow song"

come down to my level
and share this cold with me

06. zero 7, "home"

take me somewhere we can be alone
make me somewhere i can call a home
'cos lately i've been losing on my own

07. the notwist, "be reckless"

no matter what we say
no matter what we think
we will never leave this room

08. joanna newsom, "swansea"

and yonder, wild and blue,
the wild blue yonder looms
till we are wracked with rheum
by roads, by songs entombed

09. the shins, "the past and pending"

as someone sets light to the first fire of autumn
we settle down to cut ourselves apart
cough and twitch from the news on your face
and some foreign candle burning in your eyes

10. the cranberries, "no need to argue"

i knew
i knew i'd lose you

11. the new monarchs, "kiss me at the gate"

if you made up your mind
would i still stand here in denial?
so i have made a choice to stand right here
and watch you go

12. madonna, "deserve it"

i have no regrets
there's nothing to forget
all the pain was worth it

13. tim eriksen, "am i born to die"

and am i born to die
to lay this body down
and must my trembling spirit fly
into a world unknown

14. iron and wine, "the trapeze swinger"

please remember me as in the dream
we had as rug burned babies
among the fallen trees and fast asleep
beside the lions and the ladies
that called you what you like and even might
give a gift for your behavior
a fleeting chance to see
a trapeze swinger high as any savior

bonus track: koop feat. cecilia stalin, "waltz for koop"

you say our job is done
the battle is won
but we've only just begun

Tom Waits is like the perfect guy to sing about Dean when he's not with Sam. Waits is so wonderfully creepy, and sings about interesting people you'd be hesitant to befriend. ;)

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-06-06 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank YOU! Enjoy!

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-06-06 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Which version do you have?

Hello, you! <3 Thank YOU :D and I hope you like it.

Thanks! My Dean/Alastair mix is giving me a bit of a headache currently. Figures that it's difficult finding songs that get at the experience of spending forty years in hell, haha.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-06-06 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Awesome, thanks for telling me! I'm glad you enjoyed :D

Thanks!

:DDDDD really excited about this! I was at the library yesterday when I saw you posted it and made small noises and I think my friends were looking at me funny but I did not notice, I was too busy waving my hands around XD
I see a few familiar ones here from way back when you made that semi-mix! yayyy.

if you are looking for a Dean/Alastair song, there's this one that [livejournal.com profile] gold_bluepoint showed me: Into A Swan by Siouxsie. it's kind of epic and terrifying.

[identity profile] zempasuchil.livejournal.com 2010-06-06 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
by which I mean to say, I can send that to you later tonight if you want it!

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Not gonna lie. I almost wrote "This mix is, in one way another, for Z, even if she already has some of the songs." Consider it a secret finals gift. ;)

I am excited at your excitement! Feel free to tell me which songs work and which songs don't, I would be curious to see. The New Monarchs song is actually a recent acquisition and I'm glad it's applicable to Winchesters because I really like the sound of it. The Joanna Newsom, Cranberries, and Shins songs have been killing me with how their Winchesterness, augh. THE SHINS ONE ESPECIALLY, the resignation of it. And in the Joanna song, it's such a backwards-looking song, all Winchesters wanna do is chew and chew and chew. Tears. SINGLE MANTEAR OF MANPAIN.

I have 7 songs on my Dean/Alastair mix. There used to be more, but I kept cutting more and more songs. Probably the next mix I'll post is my 5x04!Cas one.

The art and song choice is inspired. So much love!

*will be snagging all*

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
<3 Thank you! I hope you enjoy. I saw you commented on the rough draft version of this mix too XD. I'm glad for that, and sorry about the repeats haha.

[identity profile] labseraph.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
*insert facepalm*

XD

[identity profile] zempasuchil.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
!!!! <33333333333 DELIGHTED!

I have a hard time cutting songs from mixes, I think because it's a wonder I add them in the first place. I don't usually do mixes myself, I just enjoy other peoples' and crib from them.

I am super excited about all these backed up mixes coming out so close together :DDD I will for sure tell you what I think once I sit down and listen to them. For finals, I limit myself to 2-3 songs on repeat while studying to keep myself from falling asleep or getting distracted.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, the playlists are at least twice as long as the fanmixes that come out of them. XD There's something satisfying in building them, I dunno. Yeah, with finals I tend to choose just one album because then the sounds become familiar, prettiness I can just tune out. Didn't you say you were gonna make a Sam mix?

[identity profile] murron.livejournal.com 2010-06-08 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
Hey :)! I like it very much!! The song selection works marvellously. The scene I'm writing on at the moment owes its rhythm to "Kiss Me At The Gate"

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-06-08 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww yay! Thanks for telling me so, I appreciate it. Isn't that song so pretty? I got it off a mix with a non-fannish general apocalypse theme and I wish to find more songs from this band. ALSO: more Murron fic?! Yaaaay XD

[identity profile] murron.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
You're sweet; thank you :)! I started writing a 5.22 coda but two pages in the plot grew tentacles. It might get lengthy. I've been hiding from it ever since.

The song is very pretty! I know you intended this to be a Sam & Dean fanmix but somehow the song sparked ideas for Dean/Castiel moment. I hope you don't mind ^_^

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course I don't mind :D. Inspiration strikes where it strikes, and it is no secret that I am kind of head over heels for Dean/Castiel hahaha.

two pages in the plot grew tentacles.
I stared at this for a while wondering if you maybe meant this literally, and if that maybe makes me even more excited.

[identity profile] murron.livejournal.com 2010-06-11 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
Now I'm wondering how I'll get those tentacles in there. Maybe I can borrow that giant squid that's been floating around at the Secret Angels challenge :D

The art looks amazing! Totally donwloading :) Thanks for sharing!

[identity profile] mementis.livejournal.com 2010-06-14 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
That cover art by itself is just gorgeous. I was going to leave you feedback based on it alone, but now that I see the tracklist I'm definitely downloading. Anything involving Tom Waits *and* Zero 7 *and* Iron & Wine deserves all the praise it can possibly get. And Koop! :D

I'm shocked - shocked! - that I only have one or two of these tracks already. What a joy to find new stuff in such awesome combination! Thank you for sharing :)

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-06-14 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, thank you! I adore Tom Waits and Zero 7 with the fires of suns, and it is hard to resist Iron & Wine when half their songs are about SPN. Glad I could bring you new joy! :D

[identity profile] strangeallure.livejournal.com 2010-06-14 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
This is an amazing, amazing mix. Great choice of artists and songs. Thank you!

Oh wow, totally downloading, this looks so awesome.
And Dean/Alastair mix? DO WANT.

[identity profile] zempasuchil.livejournal.com 2010-06-15 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
yeahhhh I did say I was gonna make a Sam mix. I have a longish playlist that is totally unformed and when i tried sorting songs out I realized I had a lot of SamnDean stuff in there, which is not like wrong for a Sam mix but it's not the point. Soooo it's gonna take some time and consideration probably. also falling into the traps of "omg everything the mountain goats/fleet foxes/U2/etc sing is so perfect", sigh.

[identity profile] vanitashaze.livejournal.com 2010-06-16 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, this looks SO AWESOME, and I really want to download, but the mediafire link is giving me some serious problems (it keeps looping instead of actually downloading) - would it be possible for you to put it on megaupload, or some alternative hosting site?
