the internet is busy today

1) Do you guys have that picture of Dean that's taken from the side and it looks like he's clasping his hands above his head in prayer or something, and his arms are big and sexy all over the place? You know what I'm talking about. Or do you know what episode that's from?

2) Important question: WHAT THE HELL WAS CAS DOING ALL HIATUS? Post your speculation here:

THE BETWEEN SEASON CASPARTY

3) [livejournal.com profile] santapocalypse: A STONEHENGE APOCALYPSE SECRET SANTA. I always feel like I'm doing Stongepocalypse fandom wrong, the same way I'm doing Sassy wrong, because everyone seems to be like, "Ey, it's all for the crack! Bring on the lulz." But I would love to see srs bsns Sam/Cas and Jacob/Joseph erudite darkfic, and Jacob/Jimmy twincestuous angstfests.

4) SPN 4x17verse commentfic meme

5)
Vampire Diaries

- VAMPIRE CAROLINE HELL YES. Caroline has always had a special spot in my heart because her neurotic overcompensation rings true. Vampire!Caroline is exactly what I want to see out of a petty, nervous girl who suddenly gained all these powers. She's freaked out by it, sure, but she is practical about it (and selfishly so) when it counts. She doesn't wilt, but she doesn't become a complete badass either. She's still a teenager, and that is why she is terrifying. And then she had the balls to make her boyfriend break up with her <33333. Their relationship was totally yawn anyway. Am totes BFFshipping Stefan/Caroline now though.

- And totally shipping Tyler/his uncle. More of this please, show.

- THE NATURAL PREY OF THE WEREWOLF IS THE VAMPIRE LOLOLOLOL

- I continue to be impressed by Elena. I used to find her really mediocre, but she's too sensible and frank for me not to like her.

- Oh god, Bonnie's reaction to finding out Caroline turned vamp, oh god. Oh god. <3333 :(((( <3

- I still find Damon annoying.

Hawaii 5-0

- OMG SAM WEECHESTER XD

- *_____* Kona became a cop because of himmmmmmm. Okay, not quite shipping these two yet. BUT COMING CLOSE.

- I was less bored by the Steve/Danny slash fodder this week for some reason. I think it's how Danny refuses to take Steve's shit. It's kinda like how I feel most warmly to Merlin/Arthur when Merlin is getting mad at Arthur. idk. Danny's endeared himself to me somewhat.

- But my favorite character is still the scenery. Oh god, gorgeous.

6) This is an interesting slide show about the Bajau, who are sea nomads in Southeast Asian waters. The lifestyle's dying out, though; there are only a handful of Bajau now who have spent most of their lives out on boats. Check out the picture of the boy who is playing with HIS PET SHARK, OMFG. I am also very *_____* at this: "Traditional Bajau cosmology – a combination of animism and Islam – reveals a complex relationship with the ocean, which for them is a multifarious and living entity. There are spirits in currents and tides, in coral reefs and mangroves. Such reverence and knowledge could be used to conserve rather than destroy."

I am, however, rather :-/ at the article byline: "Now these marine nomads risk destroying the reefs that sustain them." Most of the damage done to coral reefs in Southeast Asia is inflicted by commercial fishers and illegal trawlers. Communities that directly rely on the the sea to survive, like the Bajau, too often get scapegoated for it. This isn't to say that subsistence fishers never resort to destructive fishing practices (dynamite, cyanide, etc.). Quite often these days they do, out of desperation and perceived necessity, because the Coral Triangle's fish yield ain't what it used to be. I'm just saying that to finger one culture for ecosystem destruction without also accounting for the economic and political systems to which it is subject seems pretty sloppy and insensitive.

Yes, yesterday's! Anj, I'm not even into cop shows, okay. I find them BORING. Liking Rizzoli & Isles is bad enough, but now there is this too? I like TWO cop shows?! IS THE SKY GREEN?

Haha I actually like procedurals, but I never take them too seriously, and I was seriously worried that there would not be enough ladies for my interest. But...in this case I don't care? I mean, NEEDS MORE GP AND DDK OBVI, but there's Caan!face and grumpiness and flirting and heeheee it makes me giggle so.

THE SKY IS MOST DEFINITELY GREEN OR MAYBE WE'RE IN AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE OF CRAAAAZY.

Oh god oh god, I think I'm going to be watching this thing as THE CAAN SHOW, no lie. I have zero interest in Steve's manpain thus far and I still find him kinda grating, but I am being wooed by Danny's manpain AGAINST MY WILL. I can be interested in Steve when he is interested in Danny, haha. FLIRT MORE, BOYS!

I ALSO NEED MORE OF CHIN'S DIFFICULT FAMILY ENTANGLEMENTS AND KONA IDOLIZING HIMMMMM *_______*

IT IS SO THE CAAN SHOW. Yeah, Steve, is only ever interesting when he's flirting with Danny, and Danny's manpain...isn't actually annoying to me? SERIOUSLY WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? But I would be perfectly happy with scenes of them driving around flirting, with occasional explosions to make things interesting!

YESSSSSS ABSOLUTELY. WHERE ARE YOU ON CHIN/KONA?? I AM NOT SURE HOW I FEEL, BUT I MEAN LOOK AT THEM, HOW CAN YOU NOT WANT MAKEOUTS? THEIR FACES, RIDICULOUSLY CLOSE TOGETHER HNNNNNG.

OMG YOU JUST NEED TO WATCH THE NEW EPISODE AND GET BACK TO ME ABOUT HOW STEVE AND DANNY ARE PRETTY MUCH, LIKE... JUST WATCH IT.

I think what's interesting to me about Danny is that AT FIRST, you think he's your typical straight man, mainlander fish out of Hawaiian waters. But unlike your typical straight man, he is pretty clear-eyed and smart and refuses to put up with bullshit (and I am <3___<3 at his love for his kid, ngl). Like, Steve is stalking around doing his "OOOOH I AM MYSTERIOUS EX-SPECIAL OPS!" thang, and Danny is just like "whatever man".

I LIKE IT. In theory. I am willing to ship it more than I am. Here's where I'm at: she's always been starry-eyed over her cop cousin and used to pull his pigtails a lot, so to speak, in that crush way, and I think ONE NIGHT, MAYBE WHEN THEY WERE DRUNK, she kissed him. There was no tongue, but maybe went on half a second longer than it should have, and then she is like, "Um, D:" and Chin is like O_____O because Kona has always been his favorite cousin, sure, but now his feelings are confusingly sexual. They get over it eventually, 'cos they're buds, and things normalize and they just never talk about it ever again. They love each other a lot, okay, and maybe now there is an ~understanding as to how much, an ~understanding that they will not act on again. OR WILL THEY?!

I WILL DO SO TONIGHT AND THEN CAPSLOCK AT YOU.

Oh agreed. It would have been so easy to make him the antagonistic, dragging his heels and arrogant mainlander who's secretly ~impressed~ by Steve, but instead they made him be indifferent! And actually somewhat hilariously offended! And it's weird because he's the one cracking most of the jokes, and Steve plays it mostly straight and deadpan-y. (The girl! You KNOW she's gonna get kidnapped though D: D:)

UH LASS THIS IS BASICALLY COMMENTFIC ALREADY SO WHY NOT JUST EXPAND IT A LITTLE, HMMM? ;D

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-10-06 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I WILL TRY TO CONTAIN MYSELF UNTIL THEN.

omg yes, STEVE is the straight man! And yes, the girl is gonna get kidnapped :(: for the finale? Before the finale?

LOL I CANNOT BE EXPANDING ANYTHING until I write my Camelot Remix, WHICH I HAVEN'T EVEN STARTED. AND IT IS DUE THIS SATURDAY. whyyyyyy did i get myself into this. Remix challenges are my kryptonite. So in the meantime I will just throw half-baked bunnies at you. Chin and Kona playing video games and drinking beer! Chin and Kona watching each other when the other's not watching (or are they?)! Chin and Kona at the shooting range! Kona giving Chin a noogie!

OMG LASS HOW DO I LOVE THIS STUPID SHOW SO MUCH?? AND SCOTT CAAN'S FACE I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHYYYY IT AFFECTS ME SO. ALSO, HE IS VERY LITTLE, I AM JUST NOTICING THIS NOW! BUT COMPARED TO STEVE, HE IS WEE! OR MAYBE IT IS JUST THE ANGLE THEY SHOOT HIM FROM, IDK. OMG OMG KONA & CHIN FAMILY ~DRAMA~

I think I care about Danny's manpain because it revolves around his daughter, and him just wanting to be a good father. Good dads are sexy, IDK. Also, LOL forever at his "If I lose Rachael, I've got no one on this island" and then immediate cut to Steve's concerned face. You were soooo right about the fan service.

I would assume finale for kidnapping...that's how these shows roll, ya know?

OHHH I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO MERLINVERSE FROM YOU.

OKAY FINE: The first time Kona gets really, really drunk, she's fifteen and at a party that's busted by the cops. She doesn't remember much, just music and dancing, then flashing lights and people scrambling, and then a hard arm around her shoulders, dumping her unceremoniously in the back of a car. She passes out to the sound of megaphones, ordering people to come out of house.

She wakes up in Chin's spare bedroom with a killer headache and a mouth of cotton. She stumbles into the kitchen, where the smell of coffee makes her stomach revolt and she lurches to the bathroom. Chin, to his credit, lets her throw up in peace, but when she comes back out he says, eyes furious, "Don't you ever put yourself in that position again. Do you have any idea what could have happened to you?"

She does have an idea. She's grown up with cops, for god's sake. In her adolescent self-righteous anger, Kona storms out of the house and doesn't speak to him for two days, until she finds out at school that most everyone else at the party got a citation for underage drinking.

At the next family barbecue, she brings Chin a beer. "You're welcome," he says, and she nods and walks away. Behind her, Kona can hear her mother saying perplexedly to him, "Don't you mean thank you?" and Kona smiles.

IKR IT'S LIKE CANDY AND IT GETS STUCK IN MY MOLARS AND IT'S GONNA GIVE ME CAVITIES BUT DAMN IF IT DON'T TASTE GOOD. lololol STEVE'S CONCERNED FACE, ikrrrrrr. i c wut u did thar, Show! I see what we're supposed to think! And we'll think it, thanks :D. Did you see ariadnes_string already has Steve/Danny fic up, did you see? I am saving it for until I have finished more work. Oh this show.

Danny is so unapologetic about everything, including loving his daughter. And like, Steve GETS THAT. He knows that's a sore spot. And then in the end Steve helps Danny out with that whole business! aww. I'm still kind of unclear how. But, aww anyway. I am kind of :-/ that his ex-wife is this nebulous faceless entity whose sole purpose is to give Danny manpain. It would be hilariously sad if we never actually meet her. But we probably will, right?

I'd use the word Merlinverse lightly! It is AU. Thank god, because I am nowhere near a past!Britain kind of headspace these days.

OHOHOHOHO, SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED TO WRITE KONA/CHIN FIC, GURL. :DDDD Well, more of it. AWESOME. Yes! And when everyone is busy shunning Chin for being a skeevy cop, Kona runs after him. And Chin is still bitter all like, "what, what do you want, you shouldn't hang around me right now," but Kona disrespectfully disagrees.

I love how the episode started also, with the Polynesian war dance. Our rugby team in high school had a Kiwi coach, and the team would do this war dance at pep rallies too, so I was like, "Aww, memories!"

That analogy is perrrrfect and totally sums up how I feel about it! Oooh, no I didn't see that! Must go read it.

I definitely will say this for Steve: he does get Danny, even though they're totally different, and he understands that half the time Danny's bark is worse than his bite, and he lets Danny just bitch it out until he's spent. And yeah, :/ about Danny's wife. It would be hilarious if we see her and like, everyone just loves her and Danny's all "O_O", but I doubt the show will go that route.

Haha, well Merlin characters, then. *bounces excitedly*

HEEEE DON'T ENCOURAGE ME. And yeah, they're not doing a too terrible job incorporating Island traditions, it seems?? I think? So good for them on that count.
