Misha said, "I love Hero," which was acceptable, then "Will you autograph my chest?" which was not.

Okay so, The Departed, right? I was all :DDD when I first watched it because YAY MASSACHUSETTS omg and I recognized all those place names! How exciting! LOL OF COURSE THEY GO TO WORCESTER FOR A COKE DEAL. Anyway. I recently watched the movie it was based on, Infernal Affairs. Also very exciting!

- I found myself feeling for the Lau character more than I did when I watched The Departed. It's been a long time since I watched TD though, so I can't say why. It felt like his his motives were more clearly fleshed out in IA. The "rocks fall, everyone dies" ending in IA felt smoother.

- I got unexpectedly nostalgic at seeing a Nokia 8210. I used to have one of those! Everyone used to have one of those!

- Huh, bagpipes! I wouldn't have expected it, but it makes sense. This prompted a quick googling to see if other former British territories are as big on bagpipes. They are! Here is Enya to tell us all about it:
The Scottish highland bagpipe music is also popular in many countries that were formerly part of the British Empire. The former British Empire countries, such as India, Pakistan, and Nepal have adopted Scottish highland music of bagpipes as military pipe band music. The Scottish Highland Bagpipes were adopted in Thailand around 1921 when King Rama VI ordered the Scottish highland bagpipe music to accompany the marching exercises of the Sua Pa, or Wild Tiger Corps, a royal guard unit which had previously practiced to the sounds of an oboe called pi chawa.

The Scottish highland bagpipe music is also very popular in Arabic countries such as Egypt, Oman, and African country Uganda. The Sultan of Oman has his own pipe band trained by Scottish pipers. [source]

The more you know!

- The movie also made me realize how little I know about police procedures outside of the US. Uh, not that I know much about police procedures WITHIN the US, and I'm sure TV gets a lot wrong. But when Lau pretended to be the lawyer in the beginning and when they did the cellphone net of the area, I was like, "Wait, is that legal?" It reminded me of watching some French movie a few years ago where a character was like, "You can't come in without a warrant!" and the cop was like, "lolwut, you think we're in America or something?"

- lololol what is that cheesetastic song they played over Wong's death. The movie's reaction to Wong getting dropped off a building was NOT WHAT I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. I was horrified, HORRIFIED, that the last person who knew Yan was an undercover cop was now DEAD. What if Yan gets trapped in this life?! omg YAAAAANNNN ;____; I was a Yangirl at the beginning of the movie and ended up being more or less bi-mole.

- Okay, definitely gonna watch the other two movies. From the looks of it, one has some good Yan/Lau subtext for me to chew on, and the other is about Lau going craaaaaazyyyyy. PERFECT.

The other thing about Infernal Affairs is Tony Leung's uncanny ability to look like a kicked puppy 90% of the time. "Hmm," I thought, "and why does that feel familiar?" Oh! Because that's also the face Castiel makes 90% of the time. Therefore,

[Poll #1724407]

HOLY SHIT SHE CAN POLL. I'm trying out the two weeks of paid time trial thingy. New icons! Polls at the drop of a hat! The nagging worry that I've installed Google Analytics wrong! It's gonna be a brave new world, folks, at least for a while. I can't do polls on Dreamwidth, so I'm just not gonna crosspost posts with polls, I think, because I'm lazy and can't be bothered.

But back to Tony Leung's face. I also watched Red Cliff in the same week, and my reaction to that is mostly *___* FEAST FOR THE EYES. It's not a subtle movie, but goddamn, it is entertaining as shit.

It's like watching a really epic trailer. Great editing and great song. Apparently I need all of Puscifer's songs in my ears, like, right the hell now.

Seriously, every time they mentioned a town I was like 8DDDDD. I still need to watch The Town. I adored Gone Baby Gone.
