The tone reminds me of a folk tale, or at least a more whimsical story than fanfic or SPN tries to tell. The writer's use of third-person omniscient is refreshing and well-played.

- According to IMDB, HP Lovecraft is a character in the finale. AHAHAHA WHAT. WHAT. Guys, is Cas's war machine Cthulhu? IS THE MOTHER CHTULHU? ARE WE GOING TO GET CANON TENTACLES??
- Okay, so obvs Cas has been fucking around with Sam's soul and that's why Dean is going to make this face in 6x20. That's why Cas hasn't been answering Sam's prayers. And while Dean is likely to not forgive Cas fucking with Sam's soul, what's the deal between Sam and Cas? Like all Winchesters, Sam has the martyr complex - he won't mind dying, never existing, or maybe getting his soul fucked with if it means saving the world. Precedent: 2x10, 2x11, 5x13. If Sam and Cas's positions were reversed, would Sam do the same thing? Hell, Sam has a history of doing regrettable things. SECOND COMING OF SASSY, PERHAPS? Let's save the world and kill the parts of it who don't agree with us!
- Cas wants Purgatory for the souls, huh? He and Crowley had like a space race going on. Or maybe they were secretly in cahoots because actualfaxually according to jibcon spoilers, Crowley didn't raise Sam from perdition after all, so "Family Matters" was largely legerdemain?
