I'm going to pretend one of my 2011 resolutions was "write tons of SPN fic".
Do you guys remember "Odyssey 5", that show with Sebastian Roche (playing scifi!Balthazar, right down to the darlings and the orgies) where they have to back in time five years to stop the earth from exploding? If you're interested in watching it, I made a download masterpost for it here. Maybe I just want people to know what I'm talking about when I start babbling about Kurt Mendel being Balthazar's vessel or how he was Jacob's biology professor in MIT. JACOB/KURT, YOU GUYS.
Here's one of those "year in fic" round-up memes. I put the questions before the list of fics because holy crap, that is a lot of fics.
Story I'm most proud of
Without a Map. The decision to jump into it was sort of last-minute, but the whirlwind of it kind of made it more fun. I was happy to get a lot of my favorite/valued things in the fic: Dean & Castiel having difficult interactions, the Philippines, Indonesia, Islam, eyerolling at the angels' attempt at the Abrahamic apocalypse, Dean's hell trauma, and Antarctica. Not to mention I had a wonderful co-writer keeping me afloat. :)
Most fun story to write
Nothing Up My Sleeve. A nice change of pace after the desolation of canon fic - a jauntier tone, different flavors of relationship, more variety in relationships. After the all-or-nothing tone of SPN, this felt like an emotional breather. Jared is fun to write about, and Misha is fun to write from. But the real answer to this question is probably Novakcest, which is not really a story, but more like a mental exercise in Mishas gone horriblywrong right.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story
Dry Bones. One of the things I warn for is "incestuous-by-proxy necrophilia".
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters
Maybe Nectarines, in the sense that Jensen as a character doesn't usually capture my interest, but Misha's interest in him was interesting and a lightbulb flickered on.
Hardest story to write
Probably How to Disappear Completely. I changed the ship like 2.5 times before I even finished the first section. It didn't really work as Mishalecki - which was what I wanted before the story got emo on me - and that is how I wrote my first J2, who are emo enough for all of us. Non-fic-wise though, it was probably the Sam/Dean song. Perhaps it would've been easier if we weren't intoxicated 60% of the time.
Most popular story
When I still had Google analytics, it told me that my most popular fic was my J2, followed by the Sam/Dean fics.
Sexiest story
There is a lot of sex in Game On. It's even happy sex.
Story with single sweetest moment
Wait for the Sound. I don't give the Novaks a lot of happiness, so I think I tried to cram it all in this one fic. Happy endings for Novaks, JUST THIS ONCE.
Easiest story to write
If Thine Eye Offend Thee. I dashed it off in a burst of inspiration after watching 'Houses of the Holy'. Honestly, I think the main reason I wrote it so fast was that my internet was down at the time so I wasn't distracted.
Looking back, do you notice any trends in your writing? Stylistic choices, characterizations, genres?
With the exception of RPS, the more I ship something, the less romantic/sexual my focus on them seem to be. Possibly I am doing this wrong.
