- "PURGATORY WAS PURE." I WAS RIGHT. EEEEEEEEEAAAAAT IT. ^________^
"Maybe purgatory isn't even the monster's word for it. Maybe that's what outsiders call it. The etymology of the word implies that it [could be] a transitional place: 'purgatory' from the root word 'purge', because here you are purged until you are pure, until you can move on. But purgatory is where monsters are at their most monster. What if it's already pure? So what if purgatory is a monster's Platonic ideal? What if it's their kingdom of heaven? Sure, you may be hunted there and you might be torn to pieces, but that is how it should be because this is where monsters are pure monsters, whether they like it or not. It kind of reminds me of the idea that a warrior's afterlife is a neverending glorious battle."...and then there's Dean, stuck in the middle of AHH! PURE MONSTERS. I'm sorry your life sucks, bb.
- I like the content of the flashbacks but not really the transitions. I want fast cuts. I feel like the zooming up on sad faces was awkward.
- Long hair is a good look on Sam, however.
- Speaking of Sam, I'm really feeling him. I tend to relate to him most when he's trying to carve out a space for himself. 'After School Special' and 'Dark Side of the Moon' were episodes where I SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMM'd the most, and 8x01 felt similar to that.
- I AM FEELING BENNY. The part where he and Dean circled each other during first meeting was so cheesy though, I wanted to giggle. Perhaps I did. (Something I actually did giggle at though: Dean scaring the teenagers at the beginning of the ep.) But the way Dean said "keep your nose clean" at Benny after his resurrection pretty much won me over because that's when I started clutching my face and fervently whispering "now kiss".
- Mannnn, Jensen is just really good at being entertaining, idek. Like, it's not just that he keeps true to Dean's emotions, but he knows how to ~work it~ for an audience and makes you want to laugh and cry at the same time. He has a great awareness of his presence. DEAN KNEW THERE WAS A DOG, OKAY. Also, Dean's face when Sam was explaining how he found Kevin.
- KEVIN'S MESSAGES YOU GUYS OH GOD
AND THEN HE ENDED THE MESSAGE WITH "THIS IS KEVIN TRAN" TOO
KEVIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KEVIN YOU HAVE MANPAIN KEVIN YOU ARE NOW ~one of them~

UGH
Where is the story about Kevin's terrible no-good very bad year on the road where he runs into Our Old Favorites like Jody and Missouri and Garth and Charlie and CLAIRE and
MEG
WHERE IS MEG
MEG BB ARE YOU OKAY
YOU HAVE TO BE OKAY SO YOU CAN MAKE OUT WITH CAS STRAIGHT THROUGH THE REST OF THE SEASON i
mean so you can get revenge on crowley and take over as king of hell, that's what i meant
yes
ANYWAY
YOU GUYS
Dean spent a year in purgatory looking for ~*~*THE ANGEL*~*~ i am ten thousand buckets of tears. Still, something I would enjoy is if Cas became a monster down there, especially the most terrifying monster, especially king of the monsters, or a figure like Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now. I can't decide if I'd prefer for Cas to stay in purgatory because he wants to or because he wants the punishment.
BUT FIRST! Grumpy Old Men: A Purgatory Sitcom
DEAN: [movie reference]
BENNY: What?
CAS: He does that a lot, just ignore him.
idk, I just want a lot of Benny POV on Dean and Cas now, like when they finally find Cas, and Benny is thinking like, "Huh, so this is the guy." One time, Benny was dragging an injured and delirious Dean to safety, and Dean managed to say, "Thanks, Cas," before passing out. Stuff like that.

Benny is so underwhelming to me, Lass. Like. I AM JUST SO SAD THAT OFF ALL THE MONSTERS WHO COULD LEAD DEAN OUT, WE GOT SOME BORING NEW WHITE DUDE. Gordon Walker, where are you?
Lass what happens to monsters who are killed in Purgatory? Do they go back to Earth? Do they go back to Purgatory? Are they sent to Purgatory's Purgatory???
Kevinnnnnn omfg I really really adore him (AND HIS MOM!!!) and I want to see alllll of them.

Hahaha, fandom is divided on the Benny issue, but the issue seems to come down to how shippable he is with Dean, because the echo chamber is predictable. The show can be so much greater if they could make use of recurring guest stars. I mean, I know there are real-world reasons for this, but forever I pine for more Claire and Alastair and all my other favorites to pop up. GORDON WAS THE PUREST OF THEM AAAAALLLLLL. I haven't seen the S7 episode where Dean has a kid yet 'cos the stuff I heard about it skeeved me out, but I would love for Dean to run into her again in purgatory.
For now, I'm kind of assuming that the dead monsters in purgatory just respawn somewhere else like a video game 'cos I'm not sure where else they can go. Basically I'm framing the endless battlefield as eternal reward, and they fight and hunt and are their monster selves, which sucks for the monsters who don't conform to this, I guess. But I imagine this helps how the legend of the human gets spread around purgatory too. Maybe some of them go after Dean out of revenge, or that he's so fun to hunt, even if he does kill them in the end. What's the harm in being killed when you're already dead? You come back and have fun hunting all over again. It's kind of like the roadrunner and coyote cartoons, but not for kids.
THE TRANS ARE LEGIT THE BEST THING IN SEASON 8 SO FAR. THE BEST. I LOVE THEM, OH GOD.
