mix: i have a better idea (summer for the winter)

The following mix is for one-half of [livejournal.com profile] mumblemutter (and whether she's the mumble or the mutter is still unclear), who won me over at [livejournal.com profile] help_pakistan. She asked for a non-fannish "soothing/happy-making/it'll-be-spring-eventually" mix to help get her through the cold months. A, I tried to get the indie pop/rock, Lupe Fiasco-esque hip-hop, and non-English music in. I hope you like them! This is for you, and for Pakistan. Thank you for your generosity, and your general wonderfulness. <33

1. Euphoria, "Maaeri"
We sang a couple of their songs in my a cappella group, but seeing as I don't understand Hindi, I had to learn the songs phonetically. It was fun! I miss singing with a group.

2. Eisley, "Trolleywood"

3. Sufjan Stevens, "Chicago (Adult Contemporary Easy Listening Version)"
So, me/Sufjan is pretty much OTP, and when I saw that The Avalanche has multiple remixes of "Chicago", I did such the happy dance. Fucking love that song. Fucking love this man.

4. Instituto Mexicano del Sonido, "El Microfono"

5. Elizabeth & The Catapult, "Momma's Boy"

6. Pete Bernhard, "Mint Condition"
Thank you, Dafna, for introducing me to this guy.

7. Up Dharma Down, "Taya"
One of the best bands to come out of the Manila scene. I saw them live and oh my gosh, the girl sounds 10x better live, and she already sounds really ossum to begin with.

8. Say Hi To Your Mom, "Prefers Unhappy Endings"

9. A Tribe Called Quest, "Check the Rhime"
I went down the Cape with my boyfriend and his family for a week, and every time me and the BF went out, we I put this song on repeat. YOU ON POINT, FIFE? All the time, Tip. <333

10. Amadou & Mariam, "M'bife"
The first time I heard of them was when I saw the music video for "Senegal Fast Food". SONGS BY MANU CHAO ABOUT IMMIGRATION WOES? All over it.

11. Jellyfish, "Russian Hill"
The guy I had a crush on in high school liked these guys and turned me onto them. Guy I had a crush on had good taste. They are fucking whimsical.

12. G. Love & Special Sauce, "Do It For Free"

13. J. Ralph, "Mi Ricordo"

14. Oasis, "Songbird"

15. Pinback, "Good to Sea"

16. Vanessa Paradis, "Dans Mon Cafe"
'Bliss' was an impulse buy after I saw the video for "Commando". I didn't even know she was J. Depp's lady until I read the liner notes.

17. Jude, "Out of L.A."
Mr. Christodal, you should be bigger than you are. Please write more tongue-in-cheek songs about creepy things.

18. Mojave 3, "Bill Oddity"

19. Better Than Ezra, "Je Ne M'En Souviens Pas"
'How Does Your Garden Grow?' was an amazing album, guys. I thiiiink I got into them because "One More Murder" was on the "Fight the Future" movie soundtrack.

20. Andrew Bird, "Bein' Green"
Probably my favorite rendition of the song.

I just finished listening to the whole thing, it was lovely! I smiled, I bopped, I forgot about the weather for five minutes! I especially loved the first track and "Mi Ricordo" and exactly the bit you pointed out in "Check the Rhime", oh and "M'bifé" which is now the second song I know by Amadou & Mariam (the other one being Je Pense à Toi ♥) and oh, Andrew Bird. And eee, the cover! So sunshiny and optimistic! \o/

So yes, thank you again, ily.
