- NO, FOR SERIOUS. I saw Jessica Heafey's name in the opening credits and was like :DDDDD WILL SHE DEFY SAMPA AND JOIN THE WINCHESTERS? WILL IT BE DIFFICULT OR EASY FOR HER TO DO SO? Apparently difficult, because it's hard to defect when you're dead. Okay, so... just give me all the Campbell backstory. Give me Gwam fics set during the missing year. Give me Gwampa (LOL OMG SORRY, I WILL NEVER USE THAT PORTMANTEAU AGAIN maybe) when it's just the two of them now and it gets a little claustrophobic.

- I actually enjoy the Campbells. I want to know more about the hunter clan and how that works. Did they know about the Sacrament Lutheran Militia in Blue Earth? How global are hunter networks? I think hunting would manifest itself differently in different cultures though, so it would be interesting to see hunters from different countries try to navigate that.

- ...which is actually segue enough to go into Rufus, and Bobby, and Bobby/Rufus, and the EPIC GLOBETROTTING HUNTING ADVENTURE THAT IS THEIR BACKSTORY. OMG. We know they spent time in Japan, right, and Greece. I JUST. I understand where the Bobby/Rufus is coming from now, guys. RUFUS SAVED BOBBY FROM HIS DEMON!WIFE AND THEN THEY BECOME HUNTER PARTNERS OR SOMETHING. MAYBE THERE WAS A FRENCH MISTAKE IN THERE OR TWO, HMMMM?

- Or maybe not even, but after Rufus peaced out and Bobby's trying to resume life as usual, he can't. He is doing a tune-up, he is cooking dinner for himself, and there the world goes again, grinding to some inevitable halt. What a fucking world. Rufus left Bobby his number just in case "anything came up" and Bobby stares at it for ages before dialing the number.

And Rufus is amused. This ain't your game, boy. Don't even kid yourself. Okay, what, so life back in Sioux Falls without Karen, with his empty house, that's still Bobby's game then? And Rufus is like, "You think you're the only one who been fucked over, Singer?"

THEN IDK. IDK. DOES RUFUS TAKE BOBBY IN? DOES BOBBY JUST KEEP CRASHING RUFUS'S VARIOUS CASES UNTIL RUFUS IS LIKE "JFC FINE!"? Does actually maybe the above doesn't happen because Rufus and Bobby aren't partners per se, mostly they hunt on their own, but their paths cross often and they become colleagues with benefits?

- Also I think this is the most SPN has ever let the Beav act something so unBobby. Yeerk!Bobby was an awesome sight to behold.

- Torturer!Dean makes another appearance! What does it mean? Are they gonna make something of it in the future? Is it just trying to be consistent with the past, as in showing the trauma echoing? What is Dean's relationship with his hell memories now anymore? I was surprised that Dean was ready to torture because I thought it was something he wouldn't want to touch again. But then again... he didn't make that promise to anyone, did he? Not the way Sam promised not to use his powers again.

- I am disappointed that Sam realizing he killed un-Yeerked!Sampa didn't make a crack in the wall.

- I am amused that Bobby and Rufus are the only ones who have friends to call, as the Winchesters and Samuel just kind of glare and pout at the general state of things.

- 'Eve'? Abrahamic!Eve for real, or is the monster just borrowing the name and the legacy? Or is this monster somehow gonna precede Abrahamic!Eve? I have heard some noises that she is Echidna?

How do you do it, idek. This is filling in so nicely the Campbell-shaped holes in my fic desires. Mark trying to break in to the liquor cabinet! This CLAN FEELING of everyone on each other's toes and you don't have to like each other because you care about each other, one way or another. Seriously, I can do with more fics about this kind of dynamic: He's got her back when it matters, and that's all she cares about. She doesn't have to like him.

And then in the end they all go on the hunt because now they need to. The last line gave me shivers, dude. How young are you when you realize that you probably won't die of old age? What do you do with that realization? Maybe it's not a big thing, not in this family. What do you do if you're scared of that?

Yessss! It is not about liking your family or having things in common, it is about who is gonna kill the ghost before it kills you, who is gonna make sure you don't come back as a ghost yourself.

How young are you when you realize that you probably won't die of old age? What do you do with that realization? Maybe it's not a big thing, not in this family. What do you do if you're scared of that?
Oh man, I don't even know. You'd go crazy, right? Or maybe it takes you too long to realize there are old people in the world, they're so isolated.

CHristian seems so interesting to me! More interesting than Mark or that other one, what was his name. Like, he's a jerk, but they have to want him around for something, and he and his wife, like, are going to adopt shifter baby because they are having trouble conceiving? INTEREST. So like I kind of wondered if he was another Mary, only he didn't get out.

GOOD QUESTION. maybe not at first? there's that bit in that one episode where we learn all Mary's family and friends got killed, right? Maybe they're not together until they're the only ones left.

The years when Gwen is still coming of age are the twilight years of the big hunting families, although she doesn't realize that until much later. The deaths started in the 80's--'84, Gabby tells her afterward, maybe '85--getting worse and worse until by the time Gwen's old enough to buy her own alcohol her aunts don't bother to put extra leaves in the table for family dinners. The Campbells are being hunted down, the Lebowitzes, the Scarpellis, the Turners.

Gwen works by herself more and more as the people around her drop like flies. Her second cousin Benny in Idaho when she's nineteen; her best friend and cousin-twice-removed Sandra in Michigan when they're twenty; her Uncle Lester and Auntie Cindy in their beds when she's twenty-two. Bryan and Betsy die the next year looking for a pack of werewolves, and six months later both the only first cousins she has left on her dad's side are Mark and Christian. They spread out more and more, try to cover more monsters with fewer people, and Gwen's less careful about keeping shit from civilians, because pretty soon it's only going to be civilians, she thinks. She keeps her notebooks neat and organized and fills in the deaths on the family tree on the front cover of the oldest one.

She meets Mark and Christian again when she's twenty-eight and the Apocalypse is starting for real. They take out twelve demons and burn the bodies of the hunters who didn't make it, and then they collapse into a booth at a seedy bar and drink Scotch until they can't see straight.

"We're being hunted," Mark says sagely. "Gonna all die before--before--soon."

"Arlene can't get pregnant," Christian says. "Don't know if that's a good thing or not."

They're going to lose this war, this humans-vs-Others war that's been going on forever, and they're going to do it on her generation's watch, Gwen thinks, and does another shot.

I reckon this is something OT3 have never been scared off. I bet they have talks like, "What do you think happens when we die?" Are any of them religious? Maybe Mark is. We know the least about him, so we can project the most on him. Christian thinking there's nothing after this, and Gwen thinking that wondering about it is a waste of time because how is that gonna benefit them in THIS world?

I wonder what Arlene is like. Who falls in love with Christian? What does she see in him?

It's creepy how this being hunted ties in to being a family with a destiny. Maybe it's 'cos we know how it ends for them, but there's this sense of time running out, of destiny running out, even, because you are living it, and because there is less and less of you for destiny to act upon.

How did they run into Samuel? Who was the most freaked out?

Yeah! Does he treat her better? Or does she give as good as she gets, and laugh at him? Why does she think he'll be a good father? Is she a hunter?

yesssss time running out. And maybe you're only destined to be one of the tragedies, not the hero who finally nails it. Maybe you're destined to be the last generation.

OH MAN, I bet Mark runs into him first. He calls Christian and Gwen, and maybe CHristian calls that other guy who was there that one episode. "Hey," he says, "do you remember a Samuel? He had a daughter named Mary. Some kind of fourth cousin or something."

And Samuel doesn't ring a bell for Gwen, but Mary does, she thinks. Her father had a cousin named Mary who disappeared, or died, or something. No, her parents died, Gwen thinks, that was it, and she disappeared, and no one know what happened. "She always wanted to get out," her dad said about her once, and Uncle Aaron said, "Maybe she took some action there," but her dad said he didn't think so. He said if she were going after what killed them they'd all have heard about it, so he hopes she got out of the life like she wanted, had some kids, raised them right. "Not like you," he said to Gwen, and it was the only time he ever acknowledged maybe this wasn't the way to raise kids.

Christian is the most suspicious of Samuel. (Maybe that's why he gets possessed.) People don't just get reanimated, he says. Zombies, shifters, ghosts, liars. But not resurrection. But Mark says, nah, man, he's okay, and then he saves Johnny's life when he and Gwen are trying to catch a vampire, and Gwen kind of feels like they owe him, and he is family.

"You remind me of my kid," he tells her one night on stakeout.

"Mary?" she says, but he doesn't answer, and he doesn't say anything else about it until one day when they run into Sam Winchester and Samuel goes, "This is my grandson, my Mary's boy."

I like to think Arlene is a stoic type who takes no bullshit. She's not looking to one-up anyone in a snarking competition or a monster-slaying competition, or whatever. She rolls her eyes at Christian's impatience, and when he crosses the line, she snaps at him. She's observant but minds her own business and the business of those she loves. She is... maybe a little like Susan!

This makes so much sense. And do you realize you almost have a completed fic here? You should put it all together and post it. I can see it ending after this last line of yours if you add something to the effect "and that's when it all starts going downhill" or something, flesh out this section a little bit and voila, the fic I've always wanted ever since we met the Campbells. You're magic.

I think I like that. She doesn't do the hunts but she isn't ignorant of it either. She looks around at the world and she says, my child will not be a Campbell. My child will have a future.
