Narnia/Where The Wild Things Are: once a king

Where the Wild Things Are/Narnia crossover, because [livejournal.com profile] marycontraire said, "I think you should write an AU where Max is actually Susan's son." Done!

once a king
115 words. Susan & Max, post-movie/book. Rated G.

Susan lets Max take her hand and lead her upstairs as she rubs the sleep out of her eyes. Now that he's back home safe, bar graphs and pie charts are free to bounce around her head again, and she wonders what time she should wake up tomorrow so she can finally finish this damned report.

She climbs into bed and Max asks, "Do you want me to tell you a bedtime story?"

Susan smiles. "Sure."

She lifts the covers and Max climbs in, curling against her and tucking his head under her chin. Susan kisses his forehead and strokes his hair, and he begins, "There's a land far away in need of a king..."

i would have such a sense of melancholy, and susan's conflictedness about max's other world . . . max growing up, and susan allowing herself to revisit her childhood . . . brokenness and unbreaking . . . *g*
