Soooo, I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] dvd_commentary, where one puts one's fics up for grabs for someone else to do a commentary on. All my fics are up for grabs, though I was considering restricting it to a few fandoms, or even specific fics, 'cos you know how you look back on things you wrote and sometimes you feel a little embarrassed? OH WELL. What's done is done. I leave it to the gods!

YOU GUYS. "Where's My Cow?" by Terry Pratchett is the cutest thing ever. Oh, I know I'm a johnny-come-lately to the Pratchett Party, but I just finished Monstrous Regiment, which wasn't as good as the other Discworld books I have read (which, admittedly, aren't many), and made me itch for more. Johnny and the Bomb was FABULOUS, and the one about elves living in a store looks funny also, at least the couple of pages I read of it in the bookstore. I NEED MORE PRATCHETT IN MY LIFE. I also feel the urge to reread the Wrinkle in Time books, because I vaguely remember them being beautiful, and everything by Gordon Korman, who was my first favorite author, because the Sweet Valley books don't count.

Who wants recs?

We Walk As Men. Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Bill/Ted, NC17. NO, SERIOUSLY. Bill, Ted, and third base. The boys' voices are perfect. <3 the Bill&Ted-isms viz. "We made a pact not to bring up such egregious moments from our formative years. You know childhood trauma stunts your growth." and "I'm just thinking about our extreme lack of fortune in the babes department." BODACIOUS.

Skirts. POTC, Anamaria/Jack, R. I don't usually do POTC, but this ficlet was so charming and smooth and succinct that I couldn't help but be seduced. It is about Anamaria, Jack, and a dress.

Encore. Tintin, Calculus/Castafiore, PG. I LOVE TINTIN. What a plucky little guy, thrust into adventure all over the world, chumming up with a variety of questionable ethnic stereotypes, overthrowing political conspiracies and fighting improbable magical beings with the help of his alcoholic sailor friend Captain Haddock and his little terrier Snowy (or Milou, depending). I read on Tintin's TV Tropes page (because there are times when I reach for TV Tropes even before looking at Wikipedia) that he was created as a role model for the Catholic Boy Scouts of Belgium?! But oh, Tintin and Haddock were totally doing it. So, um, ABOUT THE FIC ITSELF. Castafiore loses her voice. It is about opera, romance, and rebirth. It is wonderful: opera's wonderfully larger-than-life pride, Calculus's cheerful airiness, and even in Castafiore being an insufferable primadonna we find grace.

In A Dry Month. Narnia, Edmund, Susan, Peter/OMC, PG13. FANFIC: angst, wangst, and questionable sexual relations. Not so with this one! (Okay, so there is sort of maybe a questionable sexual relation, but it is not an angsty wangsty one.) Her stories are about the Pevensies being kings and queens, having adventures and kicking ass. This fic is about the beginnings of the Narnian naval force, and it is rollicking good fun.

To The Heart. Narnia, Peter, PG. This fic broke my heart. It is pretty much Peter/Narnia. It is about the different ways Peter loves Narnia, and how they tear him apart. Her writing is beautiful: you read it and feel like you're walking through a dream, and occasionally you would be blindsided by some piece of insight or another and are like, "Woah." And all that from such a weird-ass prompt, too.

Swordplay. Narnia, Caspian, Edmund, and to a lesser extent Miraz and Glozelle, PG13. An intriguing AU where Peter dies in the castle raid. I like Edmund's grief and Caspian, um, shall we say coming into his own. This is also as fleshed out as I've ever seen Glozelle in fic. OH MOVIEVERSE GLOZELLE, I will write a fic about you someday, I promise. "Swordplay"'s shorter prequel is here.

-- dude, had you not read any Pterry before this? This must be fixed! Do you want me to send you a folder containing...everything Disc-related up till Night Watch?

I hope you are serious about that, because the answer is YESomgomgiwillloveyouforEVER, with a side of *grabby hands* thrown in.

I've read 'Good Omens'. I've read a few Discworld here and there, years ago. Mort, Guards Guards, Soul Music, and I think maybe another one. I've always enjoyed him, but for some reason right now the feelings have escalated to a massive crush. The bookstores in Manila don't seem to carry him anymore, and this makes me sad.

Pratchett is LOVE.

also. uh. that weird Secret Garden future fic where they're all tangled up wrong and dancing around each other? I seem to be writing it. I half blame you, and the fact that I actually got around to reading the book recently. Would you perhaps be able to beta for me? I'm just asking because I know you know and love it; don't worry if you're busy with crazy fic of your own, it's absolutely fine! I just wanted to check with you first before spreading the net wider. :D

OMG SECRET GARDEN

omg I would loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove to! caesarsghost107 yahoo com
What do you think of the book? Isn't it cheerier than the movies, all "what a jolly garden!" and all that?
