"peter," susan says suddenly, her voice sharp and bleak with desperation, and when her brother turns toward her, looking faintly inquisitive, she cups a hand around the back of his neck and pulls his mouth down against hers. he braces his hands on her hips as he kisses her back, big and familiar, and susan's distantly aware of edmund moving to block them from their parents' view. the kiss goes on a long time. then someone whistles, and someone else yells, "come on, pevensie! the boat's going to leave without you!" and peter pulls away, cups her face with one hand, hugs lucy, and says something softly to edmund in narnian. edmund catches his hand and kisses his knuckles, quick and fleeting, and susan may be the only one who sees it. then peter's gone.
