YOU GUYS. If it weren't for my laziness and messiness when it comes to statistics homework, I would not have watched Neil Gaiman read Chapter 1 from The Graveyard Book tonight. THIS IS WONDERFUL TRUFAX. Instead of typing my homework up, I scribbled it in my notebook and ripped out the pages. My notebook isn't perforated, so there are those ugly paper babychad tatters and I was like, "It's about time I stop procrastinating buying scissors."

SO OFF I GO TO THE BOOKSTORE. AND. IN THE WINDOW WAS A FLYER and it OOZED GLORIOUS INFORMATION ABOUT HOW THE MAN HIMSELF WILL BE AT THE HORACE MANN AUDITORIUM AT 7 PM TONIGHT. I had thought I was just going to tough it out through statistics and then go home and promptly pass out for 12 hours, and then the day was like, "BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE."

It's kind of like Ben Folds Five, how tales of entertaining performances accrete glitter and flash until they're like, legend (OR SOMETHING). I arrived 15-20 minutes early and the place was PACKED, but I managed to get a seat in the second row anyway! GO ME. GO NEIL. He reads! He does accents! He has good timing! He knows how to orally interpret section breaks! He ties anecdotes together! He tells jokes! IT IS TRUE, PEOPLE, HE REALLY DOES SHIT GOLD AND PISS RUBIES OUT HIS EARS.

Also, he has a SLIGHT paunch.

That he is writing in Neverwhere-verse, including a novel about the Seven Sisters. YAY.
That he plans to do more American Gods-verse writing. YAY.
That he gave that girl a hug and a kiss onstage for her birthday. AWW!
That he managed to run into a palm plant. ALSO AWW.
That we now know Morpheus's favorite ice flavor is vanilla. YAY, I GUESS.
That he will read a different chapter in each city (though he will split Chapter 7 between Boulder and LA) and we got CHAPTER THE FIRST and I didn't even fucking know Neil Gaiman was in town until I got lazy about my statistics homework, so this is really all just stupendous luck. (PRE-)AUTOGRAPHED COPY OF THE GRAVEYARD BOOK SUPERYAY
That we watched some behind-the-scenes featurette on Coraline. It was cool, but I'm not going to capslock for it.
That his finger is broken so he wasn't to sign books after the reading, and never really explained how he broke his finger even when he was explicitly asked during Q&A. SUSPICIOUS.
And, well, this is only sort of yay, but he talked about the possibility of collaborating again with Terry Pratchett, that they would both be down for it, but Terry's got a lot on his plate right now.

Also. That girl who yelled "I LOVE YOU NEIL!!1" at the end? That was me.

you should watch 'mirrormask'! it is a visually STUNNING movie, and a trippy awesome score. book-wise, i don't even know what i would recommend, just not 'stardust' 'cos i think that's his boring-est. not that you were asking for recommendations or anything. but here they are anyway!
