in lieu of creating indicator variables and interpreting log regressions

Homework sucks. Time for meme.

1. Angst:
In her dreams, Morgana sees them all unravel.

2. AU:
Being the cameraman for Arthur Pendragon, investigative journalist, is harrowing.

3. Crack!Fic:
Surprisingly, Gaius kills the most zombies.

4. Crossover:
Jadis smiles knowingly; she has met men like Uther before.

5. First Time:
The magic flares from Merlin's fingertips and ignites her own.

6. Fluff:
She likes the feel of Gwen's fingers in her hair.

7. Humor:
"Very funny, Merlin. Now change me back. ...Merlin? Hello?"

8. Hurt/Comfort:
"I'm fine," Arthur insists.
Merlin continues bandaging and says, "Sure."

9. Smut:
Morgana gasps raggedly and digs her nails into Merlin's back.

10. UST
"Gwen," Morgana begins, but doesn't know what else to say.

That said, I would give up my firstborn to read an investigative journalist AU and some Uther/Jadis.

In other news, AAAAAAAAAAAHHH I HAVE TRAIL OF DEAD TICKETS AAAAAAAAAAAHHH I HAVE TRAIL OF DEAD TICKETS AAAAAAAAAAAHHH I HAVE TRAIL OF DEAD TICKETS hfksahfkdshfd ZOMG. I've never seen them live before! It's gonna be awesome, and possibly harmful to my health considering how the Manu Chao 'mosh pit' nearly did me in. Maybe I will upload their music for you later.

I was slightly disappointed to find that Dining With Terrorists does not actually have Phil Rees going, "It is the peppers and coca leaves that give the FARC's gruel that special kick." It did make me think of all you guys on my flist writing fics about LA REVOLUCION. So basically [livejournal.com profile] zempasuchil ("THE JUNGLE IS THE IDEAL SETTING FOR REBELLION.") and [livejournal.com profile] bedlamsbard.

Also, WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THE GUY FROM ASIAN DUB FOUNDATION IS HOSTING THE MUSIC OF RESISTANCE PROGRAM ON AL-JAZEERA. OMG. Possibly to stop my head exploding from awesome?? OMG THE FIRST EPISODE IS ACTUALLY ABOUT THEM (and the BNP and racism in London). omg. you guuuuuuuuyyyyysssss, i almost can't handle it. KEEP BANGING ON THE WALLS OF FORTRESS EUROPE.

I haven't done recs since I got a delicious, but I want to bring attention to

Not listing all my favorites, just the ones I think could use more loving.

When Daylight Fades, We'll Still Be Us - Merlin/Arthur. G. This was written quite early on, before the fandom got really massive, so I think this might have passed below most people's radars. But it's lovely, check it out.

Sentry - PG. As gen as the show. The fic does a great Uther and a great dragon. And that's cool, 'cos most fics seem to dismiss the dragon as silly or annoying. I might have to write some dragon gen in the future in protest or something.

A Life Worth Less. PG13. As gen as the show. Her characterization of Merlin and Arthur are ace, especially of Arthur, capturing the balance between his douchebaggery and his honor.

Crooked Heart. Morgana/Merlin, R. Dude, all the good Morgana/Merlin, let you show me it?

With Your Eyes Half-Open. PG. As gen as the show. (THE FRAUGHT GEN, I love iiiiit.) The push&pull of OT4, POV of awesome Gwen.

Innocent - G. Merlin and Will! I gave her the prompt "five times Merlin and Will almost got in trouble but didn't", and was so thrilled when she wrote it 'cos seriously: there is not enough Merlin&Will (or Merlin/Will) out there. This is their pastoral adventures and being mischievous and looking out for each other and I am just like <33333333 <3333333.

Give Me Love, Give Me Peace On Earth. Hippie!AU. Jesus/Mary M/John. PG13. AWESOME.

I will leave you with this.

Er, also, I am glad that I am splendid. And I suppose I could be persuaded to share Morgana, in return for fic.

I kind of want more on a theme of unravelling. I think I'm on a bit of an unravelling kick right now, perhaps in response to these mentions people are putting into their fic of Arthur and Merlin conquering Albion together 'cause, um, seriously, NO. You cannot just invade people and then say pacete and have it all work out. (I think, also for practical/budget reasons, if they actually take over Albion in the series, it will be someone else, either Uther or, quite probably, an external force, conquering and then Arthur defeating them in some way.) (I am also expecting EVOL Catholics to turn up at some point, by the way.)

But, yes! Morgana seeing them all unravel! Or some Merlin/Morgana, that would also be good, for lo, they are a PAIRING OF SEXY and deserve more fic.

She is jolted awake by the fire in her dreams licking at her skin, and for a few seconds she can't disentangle the bright flashes in her head from the darkness of her room, the memories from the dream of memories. She doesn't immediately realize that the shoulder she's sobbing into and the arms that hold her as she shakes don't belong to Gwen. Gwen would be telling her it's all right, it's okay, none of it was real, but her familiar litanies aren't there now.

"Are you all right?" Merlin asks.

"What are you doing here?" asks Morgana, still disoriented.

"Your dreams bled into mine." He wipes her tears clumsily, almost uncomfortably, like he's not used to being around girls when they cry. "They're getting louder. And tonight's was especially..." Merlin shrugs. "Well, you were there. You saw it."

"What do you mean my dreams bled into yours?" she demands.

"It's what it sounds like. I was probably dreaming about something rather pedestrian, and then there was Uther in armor and there magic all around him. And you were there too, all around. Well, I didn't see you, more like I felt you in the air." He asks, "Could you see me?"

"Maybe," says Morgana, because she remembers a soft light on the periphery of her visions, something golden and sweet but constantly shifting as if separated from her by a thick veil. It might have been Merlin. Then again, it might have been anything.

Merlin says, "I know what you are."

And Morgana's heart seizes up, not because she thinks Merlin would tell someone or harm her (she can't ever imagine Merlin doing that), but because she has always been the sole keeper of her secret. Gwen doesn't even know, and Arthur and Uther never listen anyway when Morgana tries to warn them. She knows Gwen would believe her if Morgana ever chose to tell, but Morgana doesn't want to involve Gwen in this. Let her think that her lady is a little bit eccentric, a little bit unbalanced and prone to sleepless nights. If she doesn't know Morgana's secrets, she doesn't have to lie.

"Have my dreams bled into anyone else's?" she asks. "Will they know it's me?"

Merlin shakes his head. "No. You just bled into mine."

"Why just yours?"

He grins and scratches his head. "It's going to sound strange. But I suppose if there's anyone who won't turn her nose up at strangeness of this kind, it's you."

"Go on, then."

"We're kin, sort of."

"Are we?" She cocks her head. "How's that?"

And then his eyes flash gold.

*sulks* All right, we can share Morgana.

ajkl;fds this is so good! He is there for her when she wakes! (HOW DID YOU KNOW I HAVE A WEAKNESS FOR THAT?!) Her dreams bled into his! a;hgljdsh WHERE IS THE PORNY SEQUEL?

...Though I suppose I've written it, sort of, just not very well.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
i have been wanting to write about Merlin being there when she wakes for like aaaaaages. this is just the perfect opportunity. i'll get to the porny sequel after i make more headway on my homework. maybe. unless i end up writing more of the journalist AU i started up there.

naw, i for real haven't read any Shaw. maybe Shaw read Marx. :D

Well, Shaw definitely read Marx. But I'm pretty sure Marx didn't have witty dialogues.

PORNY SEQUEL!!!

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2009-02-22 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
okay okay, SO. I started this on someone else's thread, but I fear it would be impolite to continue to spam her comments page whenever a new part strikes me, so I am posting the next part here. The previous parts are here (http://ineptshieldmaid.livejournal.com/87287.html?thread=1082103#t1082103)! It began Merlin/Arthur, then gets thickly Merlin&Morgana, then now it's Merlin/Morgana with bonus Morgana/Gwen. oh tee fooooouuuuurrrrr

"You're a coward, Merlin," Morgana says, curled against his back. She holds him close to her with one arm, palm over his heart, and the breath of her voice is warm between his shoulder blades.

"Thanks," Merlin replies. "That's sweet."

"You're only avoiding the unavoidable, hiding in my bed."

"Would you rather I hide somewhere else?"

"If you like. I have great affection for you, Merlin, but I know we are both of us tied to other things."

It used to put Merlin more on edge when she said things like that, as if prescience has rendered all need for emotions and morals obsolete. Because Morgana is connected to everything, she is connected to nothing; she flows like water through problems that would stop anyone else, undone only by things no one else can see or understand.

"If I'm hiding, you are too," says Merlin.

"I'm not denying that," says Morgana, because she's all about acceptance these days. It's a big part of her personal agenda, accepting what the future brings, and she's trying very hard to work it into Merlin's. Sometimes it's like dealing with the dragon all over again. Sometimes it's like the fight has gone out of her, even though the fire hasn't, but now the fire doesn't have anything to burn except Morgana herself.

"But," she adds, "you're still tied to what you're hiding from."

He rolls over so they face each other, and Morgana lifts her hand to smooth his hair, growing long now, from his face. "And you're not?" Merlin asks.

"Only by my heart."

"Is that not enough?"

"No," she replies. "Of course not."

And that's the most Morgana ever talks about Gwen these days.

She tugs him to her and he obliges.

...i failtoporned. maybe the final version will be pornier.

Hrm. This is good, but I cannot cope with Morgana just accepting things. :(

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2009-02-22 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
your aversion to tragic ladies did cross my mind. i don't think she just lies down and lets things run her over, 'cos that's not our morgana, but so what i said about destiny capitalizing on what's already there, well, morgana is going to be capitalizing on destiny. i dunno how explicitly that will come out in the fic, though.

i guess i'm gonna end it with happy ending of merlin beginning to open up to arthur? and i also want to throw a scene in there where merlin accidentally stumbles on morgana and gwen trying to patch things up (dunno who instigates it), but things sort of go awry. and morgana begins to talk about leaving and babbles a la dragon about the time drawing near, and merlin knows it's true. maybe if he had the Sight when the dragon was still around, he would've gotten along with it better. and i've been fiddling with the idea of lancelot returning?

argh she was right, i should know better than to commentfic by now if i want to preserve my brain and free time.

It's just a me thing, really.

I want to read Morgana talking to the dragon! Although I actually rather resent the presence of the dragon a lot of the time, but sitll, if it is going to exist, I want to see what Morgana has to say to it!

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2009-02-22 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
writing dragon POV fic is on my list of "things i might want to look into when i have time (hahaha)".

[identity profile] allothi.livejournal.com 2009-02-22 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Dragon POV. Oh dear lord. Just don't do it, I can't believe you won't risk going insane and posting cryptic portentous statements all over the internet.

Btw, have pointed people to your Merlin/Morgana, above -- er, I hope that's all right.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2009-02-22 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I may or may not be a dragon apologist. Everyone thinks he's a creep, but I've always liked the characters that know how to mess with people's heads.

That's fine! :D
Now if only I can get enough work done so I won't feel guilty about sitting down and finishing them...
ext_49278: (Default)

[identity profile] allothi.livejournal.com 2009-02-22 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really have an opinion on him as a character, I just resent his presence as a stupid plot device who probably doesn't have a coherent plan but just does whatever suits the writers best, episode to episode. *cough* And who doesn't really fit into most of the kinds of stories I want to write.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2009-02-22 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Aaaaahahaha, see, coming from the Narnia fandom, destiny is pretty much half the stuff I wrangle with. What's the deal with the prophecy? What's the deal with Aslan? What are we doing back in England? Have we outlived our purpose? [Angst goes here.]

I just get tripped up by wanting to write about Morgana growing into her powers and then thinking, ugh, but she's probably supposed to be talking with the dragon now, that really doesn't fit into what I want to do.

I took out my feelings in this one little thing where she killed it. I quite liked that. I should do something with it, one day.

...have you always had an Arthur & Morgana icon?

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2009-02-22 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha no! I was just thinking that I have too many Arthur icons and need more Morgana icons, so I thought this a fair compromise. I like how they're all, "That's right, we're the Pendragon scions and we're gonna fuck your shit up." So, it's also my second 'motherfucking pendragons' icon.
ext_49278: (Morgana & Arthur: battlements)

[identity profile] allothi.livejournal.com 2009-02-22 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Pendgragons ftw! (Weirdly coincidentally, I think I put something like "those beautiful, fucked up Pendragons" in the comment on this icon, along with the credit.) There should be Diplomatic Visit fic where they visit other kingdoms and fuck people's shit up. Or futurefic where he's king and she's still at least sort-of on his side, and they fuck people's shit up! Or AU fic where they're politicians or something and they fuck people's shit up! Yeah!

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2009-02-22 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I WOULD READ THE SHIT OUT OF POLITICALPOWERHOUSE!PENDRAGONS. Where after the negotiations are done (and won), they convene in their chambers over goblets of mulled wine and go 'mwahahahaha' at their political genius!

And then Arthur gets a little srs bsns about his burgeoning kingdom, and Morgana sits on the arm of his chair and strokes his hair and says, "You worry too much. I've told you it's in the stars."

"It's a king's duty to worry," he says, "as it is yours to trust the stars."
ext_49278: (Morgana: green)

[identity profile] allothi.livejournal.com 2009-02-22 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
And he angsts about whether or not he's just Morgana's creation! And she angsts about the fact that he won't always need her! Because clearly interpersonal relationships are built upon the use to which you can put a person, and not on things like mutual affection and stuff.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2009-02-22 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
CLEARLY. And Arthur knows Morgana isn't telling him everything, but what he doesn't get is that it's not to shut him out, it's to keep him closer?! And she's too proud to show real attachment! It's not like when they were young when they thought the future so malleable, but she knows now how they are being pulled towards their respective destinies: Arthur to Camelot, Merlin to Arthur, and Morgana to... the future?

AAAAAAAHHHHHH I'M RUNNING AWAY BEFORE I GET SUCKED IN. okay for real i have to go and eat lunch and do homework. LET GO OF ME, MERLIN.
