"Welcome to Avalon! Here is your puppy."

So I was hanging out with a new friend and I started telling him about fanfiction, 'cos I'm tyring to shrug off the yoke of the fandom/RL divide. He wants to read my fic! omg what should I send him?! and sometimes you can hear the silence speak is one of my favorites that I've written, but I fear it's too much subtextual incest for a first date. Does The Light of a Different Sun make my butt look big? I'd go with Static Noise or even Salva Veritate but I don't have any shoes that maaaaatch.

For [livejournal.com profile] narniaexchange, [livejournal.com profile] westingturtle wrote me The Winter King, an AU in which Susan discovers Narnia first and Jadis is male. omg. <333! Thank you very much, [livejournal.com profile] westingturtle, and I promise I'll comment with a proper review soon.

[livejournal.com profile] zempasuchil and I were having a conversation about what Arthur would (OR SHOULD) do in Avalon all day, and I think the answer is pretty obvious: cuddle some puppies. 'Cos man, if I were convalescing on a magical isle for an indefinite period, I could definitely use some puppies to cuddle. In honor of this - and also of the beginning of the American football season (I think?) - you get not just a picture, but a picspam. Of the Puppy Bowl.

"What is the Puppy Bowl?" asked Z.

This is what I told her.

OMG THE PUPPY BOWL IS THIS WONDROUS THING ON ANIMAL PLANET THAT SHOWS WHENEVER THE SUPERBOWL IS ON AND IT IS PUPPIES PLAYING FOOTBALL. SORT OF. WELL OKAY SO YOU MAY HAVE A STADIUM, AS SUCH:

AND YOU MAY HAVE A STARTING LINEUP, LIKE SO:

PLAYER PROFILES:

AND GOALPOSTS:

THERE IS EVEN A REFEREE

AND A TV CREW TO BROADCAST IT TO A NATION OF SPORTS FANS:

But let's face it, puppies are dumb, so what usually ends up happening is THE PUPPIES CHASE EACH OTHER AROUND THE STADIUM AND POUNCE ON EACH OTHER AND FIGHT OVER CHEW TOYS AND ARE BASICALY MORE INTERESTING THAN THE SUPERBOWL CAN EVER BE. EVER.

EVER.

everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

BUT SOMETIMES THEY JUST GET SO TIRED FROM SCORING TOUCHDOWNS/GNAWING SQUEAK TOYS THAT THEY FEEL COMPELLED TO TAKE A NAP ON THE 50-YARD LINE.

AND SOMEHOW THEY STILL MANAGE TO BE MORE INTERESTING THAN THE SUPERBOWL.

NEEDZ MOAR PUPPIES

This kitten is lost maybe. OR MAYBE IT'S JUST PART OF THE KITTEN HALF-TIME SHOW.

Quoth the Wiki: "A spinoff of the Puppy Bowl, the 2008 Puppy Games, was aired opposite NBC's primetime airing of the opening ceremonies of the 2008 Summer Olympics on August 8, 2008. The games included swimming, gymnastics, boxing and soccer, and kittens were used for the "opening ceremony". WHAT. HOW DID I MISS THIS. WHY WERE NONE OF US CAPSLOCKING ABOUT THIS AT THE TIME.

i typed 'puppy bowl' into youtube and this link leads to the search results

Every comment to this post must have a picture of a puppy. Okay fine, just your first comment then.

ETA: A CROSSOVER FIC EXCHANGE?! [livejournal.com profile] xover_exchange is taking fandom nominations. Exciting!

Tom Sawyer: the werewolf AU

The Problem of Susan, man, I wanted to finish all seven books before reading that story but I got bored. So I read the story and it turns out you don't need to know the books after all. Dreams of bastardized Mary Poppins ftw!

Hmm, after consideration I think I'll go for the Calormen fic after all hahaha

Werewolves is the key. They need to get their sexy back, if they ever had it, which they should because yes they are sexy.

I rather liked it! unless I'm mixing it up with the His Dark Materials/Narnia crossover? the part I remember being kind of grossed out by was the Aslan/Jadis. because 1) it was a little graphic for me, and 2) okay we get it you're trying to break our brains and question "good" and "evil", way to be anvilicious Gaiman.

That crossover is excellent, but is a Yuletide fic I think.

okay we get it you're trying to break our brains and question "good" and "evil", way to be anvilicious Gaiman.
LOL SO TRUE. Oh Gaiman, I guess you aren't perfect after all. Seriously, as far as Narnia fanfics go, I have seen so many better ones on LJ.

[identity profile] zempasuchil.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that's what I thought. They both have that "Susan is old now and her identity is sort of a mystery" theme going on, right? which I liked.

I wonder if it's inevitable that the first fic of any fandom is going to be kind of "no, duh". But that can't be true. Also I bet his was not the first, I mean those books are *old* and part of may a childhood.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
Ya that theme, and Narnia fanfic has to have been around before Gaiman published that. In 2004, says google-fu, so, definitely.
