I'm just... really bad at sleeping, okay.

Hold me back from signing up for [livejournal.com profile] xover_exchange when that goes up 'cos Jesus Christ I don't need to join another ficathon. Much as I want to cross The X-Files over with everything. EVERYTHING. It's so weird looking for X-Files fanfic online because all the links are dead, and it's like coming across the remnants of a lost civilization. Man, the glory days of Geocities. [livejournal.com profile] xfiles has some truly amazing picspam posts though.

At some point maybe I'll post my thoughts on X-Files and The Tudors, but for now I'll just get on with the recs meme.

day 01 | a song
day 02 | a picture

day 03 | a book/ebook/fanfic
day 04 | a site
day 05 | a youtube clip
day 06 | a quote
day 07 | whatever tickles your fancy

I'll continue with my habit of overdoing it and rec 5 fics instead.

Anastasia | Dmitri in the Old Palace by Memlu | PG
Pre-movie. Dmitri meets Vladimir. By the third month, they'd earned enough money off Vladimir's forgery and Dmitri's tongue to buy good food and clothing that fit; Dmitri had grown over the winter. Vladimir bathed and trimmed his beard and for once, he nearly looked civilized. "My boy," he said, "I shall drink to excess no more. Money shall be my vice."

Mirrormask | The Flame In Your Eyes by Pen | G
Helena/unValentine, post-movie. Masks are familiar, and he slides into the Circus like he has always been there.

Adventures of Pete & Pete/Harry Potter | untitled by fox1013 | G
There are lots of natural enemies in Wellsville.

The Secret Garden/Buffy the Vampire Slayer | pretty maids all in a row by Aria | PG
Mary Lennox, vampire slayer. Dickon was out in one of the vegetable gardens, gathering the last of the potatoes before they rotted in the ground. He came to his feet with a grin at the whirlwind of Mary bearing down upon him, but the grin dropped from his face as soon as Mary said, half-panting: "Dickon, could you have holy water around your house?"

The Office (US) | Five Stories Kelly Kapour Never Told by typicrobots | PG13
omg Kelly <333. Michael announces to the office that Toby is getting divorced and that everyone should be really nice to him for the day. Kelly goes to find him in the break room during her lunch hour but can't think of anything to say to him. She offers him half her salad; he holds up his Pizza Hot Pocket. She says she's sorry; he just shrugs. The less he speaks, the more uncomfortable Kelly feels and suddenly she's telling him all about her parents' marriage without really knowing why.

Mary Lennox, vampire slayer.

Okay. Why has this never occurred to me before?

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Right? I'm really glad it occurred to someone, at least.

SOMEONE CROSSED THE SECRET GARDEN WITH BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER? MY GLEE, IT IS LIKE CHRISTMAS AND A NEW SEASON OF MERLIN ALL WRAPPED IN ONE. BRB, READING.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I THOUGHT YOU MIGHT LIKE THAT ONE. XD
ext_80109: (Narnia: Pevensies: a posteriori)

I have already ready three of these (MARY LENNOX, VAMPIRE SLAYER, HOW AWESOME IS THAT?) but they are all so awesome! Oh, Kelly Kapour!

ALSO. HOLD YOU BACK? Not a chance!

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Possibly I just want to write more crack. Leverage/Narnia crossovers where the team falls into the wardrobe. Mulder and Scully in Camelot. I just want to write Narnia fusions all day, apparently.

[identity profile] zempasuchil.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
HAHA I just went and voted for Narnia at [livejournal.com profile] xover_exchange, so I've pretty much already given in. I was like NOOO SCHOOL STARTS, THIS WILL NOT BE GOOD, and then I looked at the beautiful list of fandoms and the deadlines and was like, So I have some of October and all of November to do it... agh, yeah, I'm addicted to fic and crossovers are the cream of the crack.

MARY LENNOX, VAMPIRE SLAYER. it sounds like what Pride and Prejudice and Zombies should have been!

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I too have nominated fandommmmmmmmms, but man oh man. I HAVE A THESIS TO WRITE. But I also want a fic of Merlin where the monster-of-the-week comes along and Uther brings in a crack team of experts to find out where it comes from and how it can be stopped. Friends of Gaius, who knew one of them from their apprenticeship days. The knights can handle it, Arthur protests. I can handle it, Merlin thinks silently. "Sire, may I present to you," says Gaius, "Sir Fox Mulder and the Lady Dana Scully."

Sorry, X-Files has just been like, on my brain. My braaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiin.

CREAM OF THE CRACK. There are so many reasons why this is an excellent phrase.

YA YA. HERE IS THE SCARLET LETTER, BUT WITH CYBORGS.

[identity profile] zempasuchil.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, yes, I totally want to bring one of the teams on these medical/science shows into contact with a magical world XD or of course translate a magical world into their scientific one. I am sort of contemplating this Merlin/Bones crossover that got suggested on the fic-you-never-wrote meme? because Gaius is a scientist and Merlin is his dorky grad student assistant, of course! and Arthur is a cocky FBI guy with a savior complex.

It is sad that I am utterly unfamiliar with X-Files :( they're the forerunner to so much, it seems!

Cyborgs? Suddenly the townspeople make so much sense!

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
I've only ever seen a couple episodes of Bones, but everyone seems to be all over it. Hmm!

I appreciate X-Files more watching it this time around. I wish I can find some X-Files fen on LJ, 'cos there's something about LJ fandom y'know? It would be so fun to post up episode reactions and flail flail flail and have a commentparty about it.

[identity profile] zempasuchil.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
I am always late to the game, so it's starting like 5th season now and I'm in the middle of second on DVD, but for some reason it is just so compelling. it has that delightful combination of comedy, well-written characters with really good UST, and crime-mystery suspense. also every one in it is adorable. the only thing is there is very little slash fic out there. actually more femslash than slash, I estimate.

LJ fandom is wonderful and rich and rather well organized - much better than trying to scour the nets for stuff.

There are not words that presently express my love for Anastasia fic. God, I miss my childhoodddddddddd.

HAY THANKS FOR THE REC.

I totally nominated for xover_exchange, I nominated the Pretender and Narnia, even though NOBODY EVER WRITES ME THE PRETENDER. It's a show about baby geniuses!

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
HAY YOU'RE WELCOME. Yay Mirrormask. I know not Pretender, but yay Narnia!
