'Another Country' - SPN fanmix - Castiel

First of all! [livejournal.com profile] heathblossom translated Ashes, Ashes, my wrongbad croatverse Clairestiel/Dean fic that I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] blindfold_spn, into Korean. :D Thank you, heathblossom!

Second of all, get yourself over to the [livejournal.com profile] sassy_otp commentfic meme. You should write the prompt about club DJ Cas and the Sam who fanboys him. Mmhmm.

Thirdly, a fanmix. Pretty much after I finished my Novakfest, I decided to reward myself with doodly times on Photoshop. This playlist has been sitting on my iTunes for a while. I still walk back from my internship pining for the Cas fanvid set to this. Speaking of Cas! The Casfest S6 commentfic/art meme is in progress, so expect that in a few days. In the meantime, here's Cas in season 5.

I leave the world
all the time. These arms, these

fingers, this tongue, these feet,
and their bent wings. I know
it will be dirt, the prayers

now in marrow will retake
earth. I will live inside whatever flies.
Burning, the brink of all things.

This mix looks awesome! Some stuff I know, some I don't, perrrfect. And the art is absolutely gorgeous, so eerie with the contrast of bright/muted colors, and the repetition of the faces... Plus it bears the title of one of my favorite books. So, me + this mix = friends already.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-12-27 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! Which is the music you know? I like finding out about other people's music. I guess we already know you are a Sufjan fan, so you are obvs one of discerning taste.

[identity profile] roque-clasique.livejournal.com 2010-12-27 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Let me see. I know Johnny Cash (duh), Sixpence None the Richer, Radiohead, Jose Gonzalez, Tricky, and MC Solaar.

Musicwise I am very passionate but tragically un-hip. I am not the kind to sit and look for music, I wait until it's given to me, which is why I so adore fanmixes. Though the past few weeks I have listened to little save for Kate Bush, Fever Ray, and Jolie Holland. That should change.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, of those I only have the full albums of Sixpence, Radiohead, and Jose. I have gotten waaaaay lazy about my music-seeking. In the past few months, I have come to rely on fanmixes as well. SPN is entirely responsible for the sudden increase of Iron & Wine and 65daysofstatic in my iTunes. Ditto Devil Makes Three and UNKLE.

[identity profile] copper-on-mars.livejournal.com 2010-12-25 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I think, if not for SPN and awesome people like you who make fanmixes, I wouldn't know anything about not-classical music, except that Lady Gaga wears cool yet strange dresses. Thank you so much for this mix! Merry Christmas!

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-12-27 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, I'm glad to be one of the ones able to help you in that regard, though classical music is great as well. And what does anyone know about Lady Gaga, really? She is a ~mystery. XD

Thank YOU! Happy holidays!

The artwork is soooooooo pretty and HELLO awesome music - Downloading RTFN.

Thank you! <3

what are the odds that we both post things featuring 65daysofstatic today!?
In SPN fandom? Weirdly larger than usual. This band keeps on turning on fanmixes, and I don't reckon they're THAT known in the ~real world~ but in fandom, they are strangely ubiquitous.

[identity profile] slinkymilinky.livejournal.com 2010-12-27 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
oreally? SPN fandom is too intertwined with my interests...it's just one big ball of EVERYTHING.
and I don't reckon they're THAT known in the ~real world~ yeah I thought they were kinda obscure! Anyhow - cool mix, I will be rinsing it hardcore as soon as christmas aftershocks calm down <3

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-12-27 11:17 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, Z! Thank you very much! I don't do very many artses outside of icons and fanmixes... or at all... so I am esp glad you like these, haha. THERE IS A PARTY IN PHOTOSHOP AND EVERYONE IS INVITED.

[identity profile] august-monsoon.livejournal.com 2010-12-25 11:30 am (UTC)(link)
So much pretty! Is the cover Cas stepping into a tree stem (with the rings)? hmm, perhaps not. Beautiful song choice (the Johnny Cash especially)!

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-12-27 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! It's actually a picture of an old map that I got from fuckyeahcartography@tumblr. I can definitely see where the tree ring comparison comes from though.

Thanks! Please to enjoy! <3

[identity profile] mercury973.livejournal.com 2010-12-27 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Most of these artists I do not know. Then again, I'm old (LOL)
Snagging these since it sounds interesting. Thanks!

This looks fabulous. Downloading!

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-12-27 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! And omg hello, I love your vids! My friends and I still wax starry-eyed about "Nowhere to Stop" :))). I hope you enjoy the mix!

[identity profile] lolachrome.livejournal.com 2010-12-27 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, thank you! <3 That is awesome to hear!

Actually, I was thinking this mix might give me new vid inspiration. I'm itching for more music to vid Cas--and just for more music in general. This mix looks like it might hit the spot!

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-12-27 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
This... is such thrilling news, omg. A vid by you set to one of these songs?! Right now my heart is like :DDDDDDDD. Any of these songs caught your fancy yet? :)

[identity profile] lolachrome.livejournal.com 2010-12-28 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Guh, this mix is amazing. I've been traveling, and so I am only getting to listen to it in bits and pieces, but every song I hear I'm like--OMG, this would make such an amazing vid. I have no idea how I'll decide! I'll also be chasing down many full albums as a result I am sure.

I will report back more when it's had a little time to sink in!

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
I know a friend of mine is making a Cas vid to the Thom Yorke song right now. And aww yay, I'm so glad you're enjoying the mix!

Heee, awesome, I look forward to hearing your thoughts! :D

[identity profile] lolachrome.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
OK, will stay away from the Thom Yorke song then, and will be looking forward to seeing that vid released!

Right now I'm thinking it might have to be Secrets of the Undersea Bell. Because, yeah, I think that would just vid itself. But there are so many great choices on this mix! It's very inspiring :)

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-12-31 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Awesome! Astronautalis has such a great sense of rhythm. It was actually another SPN vid (http://giandujakiss.dreamwidth.org/78262.html) that got me into the band! And the lyrics to Undersea Bell are SO PERFECT AND BEAUTIFUL:

heaven is where the devil always hides his secrets
let me teach you songs that will fare you well
let me draw you maps through the gates of hell
who would kill those men
no one can tell
the secrets of the diving bell

and I am like *__________*

[identity profile] lolachrome.livejournal.com 2010-12-31 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that vid is so wonderful. I didn't realize it was Astronautalis. You're right about the driving sense of rhythm--that was what drew me to the song, in addition to the uncanny lyrics and just how damn perfect it is. It actually reminds me very much of Nowhere to Stop in all of those elements.

BTW, OK if I friend you?

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-12-31 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Another Nowhere to Stop, huh? Now I am even more curious to see your vid, ahaha!

That's totally okay! How exciting. Shall friend back.

[identity profile] shane-mayhem.livejournal.com 2010-12-28 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Christ, these poems...

You have impeccable taste in poetry. I don't usually do fanmixes, but I'm grabbing this one!

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-12-28 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Aw thanks! Hope you enjoy the mix. I found the poems through [livejournal.com profile] gid_hanasheh, which is a comm for posting poems that are ~coincidentally about~ SPN's angels. Lots of good stuff turns up there, and the SPN goggles just make it more fun. ;)

I saw this ages ago and never got the chance to comment. <3333 THOM YORKE. That song is just so Castiel. and I have never heard of that sixpence none the richer song before this! but it is also perfect. someday I may even have time to listen to the rest of the mix. I'm pretty sure it'll be awesome when I do get the time. also, the art. Lass! you are so skilled with the PS. :D

(also, POETRY. I think I recognized every one you excerpted from.)

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-12-31 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
<333 Thank you! Thom Yorke ends up being on most of my SPN mixes for some reason, haha. And ironically I remember reccing the Sixpence song to Bedlam when we were gonna co-write some Narnia together, I think the Narnia/Stardust crossover. I hope you enjoy the mix, whenever you get to it!

(also, POETRY. I think I recognized every one you excerpted from.)
They are all from [livejournal.com profile] gid_hanasheh. ;)

[identity profile] makochan-fan.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I downloaded this a few weeks ago and I've been thoroughly enjoying this amazing mix ever since. I particularly love "In the Cathedral" and "Massive Star" because I always felt that music rather than words/lyrics are more adequate in portraying who/what Castiel is. And I love how you chose a 65days' song; they're one of my fave bands. Thank you for this awesome mix!

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2011-01-20 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
Oh gosh, I'm really glad you're enjoying it! My soft spot for 65daysofstatic only grows and grows. They're fantastic. Thanks for commenting! :D
