Lassiter <3 Dickon

Frances Hodgson Burnett's The Secret Garden I has it! (Along with Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet, Orwell's 1984 [I've never read it, don't judge me], Jhumpa Lahiri's The Namesake, and a shitload of Bollywood movies. Thanks, RL friend!) I have been craving reading The Secret Garden again after I read some Colin/Mary/Dickon fic because I am JUST THAT PREDICTABLE. My friend asked me in turn to borrow some of my books, whichever books I think are worth reading, and I am excited to compile such a list because it's just like making a mix CD! But out of books! AWESOME.
"Uninvited" by Lizzen. Narnia RPF, PG, Will/Anna. I don't do Narnia RPF, but HOW THE HELL DO YOU RESIST THIS FIRST LINE: "Anna is not invited to the premiere of The Last Battle in London." I XDed so harharharharhard.
"Our Battle Cry Shall Be: 'At Least Our Leaders Mean Well'" by paperclipbitch. Narnia movieverse, PG13, Caspian/Peter. It's a long piece that you can wrap yourself in. Her Caspian characterization is a bit mopey (Hamlet references included!), but her writing is lovely and pulls you in. It's about meeting your childhood heroes only to find that they kind of resent you for existing. (Peter/Narnia OTP!) And her Susan is wonderful.
“It’s yours,” Peter tells him firmly, though there’s a wistful edge to his voice that they’ll both pretend doesn’t exist.
Also: "A prince must imitate the fox and the lion, for the lion cannot protect himself from traps, and the fox cannot defend himself from wolves. Those that wish to be only lions do not understand this." Way to fall into my lap while googling quotes for titles! Thanks, Machiavelli! I take this as your unwavering support for my writing more about Edmund and his nameless coalition. Cheers all around!
It is an excellent idea that I will make a post dedicated to the awesomeness that was 'Jem and the Holograms'. - Y/Y

Truly outrageous!

I need to catch up on my Narnia fandom reading as soon as possible. I'm completely charmed and amused by the concept of Narnia RPF; I haven't seen any of the new movies yet (partly because it feels weirdly disloyal to the old BBC versions, which I adore, but mostly because I just haven't had the time) but I love how the fandom's getting bigger because of them!
Have you read any Jem fanfic? There are some total gems out there; I have recs if you'd like them. *^^*

“I’ve nothing against th’ blacks. When you read about ‘em in tracts they’re always very religious. You always read as a black’s a man an’ a brother. I’ve never seen a black an’ I was fair pleased to think I was goin’ to see one close. When I come in to light your fire this mornin’ I crep’ up to your bed an’ pulled th’ cover back careful to look at you. An’ there you was,” disappointedly, “no more black than me – for all you’re so yeller.”
OH MARTHA. <3 Waaaaa I cannot wait to flail my hands about this book.
I find the Yorkshire accent daunting because through fandom-tinted glasses what I'm thinking is, "How the hell am I going to write that dialogue?" Which Colin/Mary/Dickon fic did you read?
Despite my past shamelessness with RPF I haven't gotten into it so much with Narnia. Maybe it's partly because I prefer to attach their faces to the Pevensies than to Skandar, Georgie, et al? I dunno. In any case, the Pevensies have EATEN MY BRAIN. Peter/Narnia OTP! Susan/everyone-especially-Peter! Baaaah Peter/Susan gets my heart all in a twist.
I've read a few. I would LOVE recs! Thank you! I wish I hadn't chucked my Aja icon now. (It had "idk my bff jem?" on it, 'cos HEEEE.) There is this cool fic on Yuletide called 'Rock Stars'. ALSO, there was this one that I read YEARS ago that was a hot hot PWP of the Stingers in a hotel room, tying Minx up with a silk bathrobe and spanking was involved, and in the end there was some peeping tom recording on a video through the window. And it was illustrated. Sound familiar? 'Cos I have been trying to find it and I cannot. WOE.

A reaaaaaally long time ago, I read an amazing teenage!Colin/Dickon fic regarding maharajah/servant boy roleplay and swing sets! It was hot like fire and hinted of C/D/M, and it had the best Dickon voice imaginable-- not to mention, the best Colin voice. It was by a writer named Aspen; her site was called Paper Moon. And... apparently all of the above have disappeared off the face of the internet, wtf. It's really frustrating me that I can't find this. ^^;
Also, I came to Secret Garden fandom via this (http://fire-and-a-rose.livejournal.com/551419.html) charming Narnia/Secret Garden crossover, and everything from Yuletide (http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/fandom_frances_hodgson_burnett__secret_garden.html).
(I don't know why there's not a bigger fandom for Frances Hodgson Burnett's books in general; I've been considering writing Sara Crewe/Becky or Lavinia/Sara for years, mostly because of my great and abiding love for Alfonso Cuarón's take on A Little Princess.)
I was *totally* going to rec you Rock Stars; LJC's Jem-fic (http://ljconstantine.com/fanfic/jem.htm) is quite good in general! Rough (http://www.ficwad.com/story/4481) is superhot and probably my favorite Jem story; everything by Kanna Ophelia (http://www.ficwad.com/author/477) is likewise excellent. Into the Mirror (http://moodfic.livejournal.com/35002.html) helped me make sense of Rio. I wish I knew the Stingers PWP you speak of, because that sounds superlatively wonderful. I will exercise my Google fu and see if I can find this!
omg thank you!
Yuletide! Why does Yuletide always serve? *loffs it*
*and pounces on Jem recs* OUTRAGEOUS. TRULY, TRULY, TRULY OUTRAGEOUS.
