OH MY GOD. *STABS VISA APPLICATION PROCESS*

In happier news,
Awesome Susan Moments
- Susan's princess wave from the train! Ahahaha.
- "Wars don't last forever." This one just makes me want to fic and fic about Susan angst.
- "You know that doesn't really rhyme." OH SUSAN. <333
- Susan helping Mrs. Beaver pack food while the wolves are about to kill them.
- The SusanLucy interaction are myriad and awesome! When they start splashing at each other, that's when she starts feeling this whole Narnia thing.
- "Run along now, I have to go be crucified for the sins of man." And Susan is all, "Whatev," and is like *hides behind bush to watch*.

Awesome Edmund Moments
- GRABBING HIS FATHER'S PHOTO.
- "Perhaps we've been incorrectly labeled." <333
- Of course it's Edmund that goes around and checks the back of the wardrobe.
- Edmund drawing on the statues.

OMG TUMNUS
- Tumnus has the ill bachelor pad.
- Tumnus's books! "Is Man a Myth!" <33333 I WANNA READ THAT. Something titled "Humans", something about nymphs, something about gamekeepers, and "The Life and Letters of" I can't read it, but it begins with an S? Or an M? Or an A?

Other Stuff
- THE BEAVERS. <3
- Maugrim is American. LOLZ.
- Tilda Swinton is one sexy mama.
- Did anybody else see the toys in Kris Kringle's bag? "Let's see... teddy bear... check... velveteen rabbit... check... stuffed dog... check... sword of legend... check... bow and arrow, with complementary ivory horn... check... dagger and magic elixir/plot device... check and check! Let's roll!"
- What is it with red and gold and lions? What is it?
- Another fic I want to read: the other traitors who have died on the Stone Table. Especially if someone who was willing can die in their place, and be resurrected. How do we stop traitors from taking advantage of this? Am I missing something? Fic of traitors taking advantage of this Law of the Stone Table would also be awesome.
- POLAR BEARS. HOW APPROPRIATE. *Golden Compass flashbacks*
- Sleeping overnight with a lion corpse. Creepy? Oh right, I forgot it's okay if the lion's supposed to be Our Lord And Savior.

Oh, Peter's delightful need to Have Everything Sorted and be grown-up and know what's best for everyone! Oh, his pompous honor being all "none of you can possibly take care of yourself!" Peter/his duties! Its evil twin is Peter/himself, and both are precursors of Peter/Narnia.

Mostly LWW has awakened me to the fact that we need more fic about TUMNUS. Particularly Tumnus struggling with his conscience, doing questionable things as part of the spy brigade, and let's even throw in the "I'll never be as honorable as my father!" trope, just for kicks! I want to read about Tumnus passing Lucy's handkerchief on to Badger, and then the secret police catch him and he goes into a world of shit. Basically I want the fic that explains why he answers Edmund's "Are you Tumnus?" with "What's left of him." YES PLEASE.

I enjoyed rewatching LWW knowing I'm going to fic it. By this point I've become a bit comfy in my own fanon, so watching the movie became a bit of a squeeparty, seeing how canon and my fanon merge and diverge. English class be damned, it's fanfiction that really trained me to analyze a text (even if a lot of the analysis tends to devolve into trawling for angst-fodder). I became more sensitive to what I like and don't like, and to moments of OMGSQUEEness and WTFery, for their sheer plot-bunny potential. Books and movies stopped being static, and became but a starting line. <3 fandom!

I spent FAR TOO LONG on TV Tropes again and discovered that my two favorite things about its Narnia page is the 'Shmuck Bait' of The Magician's Nephew and the fact that, when it talked about Susan losing her faith, she is linked to a trope called 'Agent Scully'. This makes my mind explode in all sorts of ways. AWESOME.

Hey, you guys remember that Disney cartoon from the '70s called "The Rescuers" with the mice? Remember the 'General Assembly' of mice in the United Nations building, and there was one delegate mouse from Arabia and ONE from AFRICA? Ya. LOLZ.

OKAY. The Secret Garden fic where, years later, Colin, Mary, and Dickon have sexytimes in the hundred rooms of Misselthwaite Manor, and the servants suspect what's going on but don't dare say anything because Colin and Mary would shove a boot up their asses. Colin is still possessive of Mary, and she still resents this possessiveness, but she loves her cousin. And Dickon, of course, loves everyone and everything, especially his moor and his animals. Shall you write it or shall I? Keep in mind I am simultaneously twiddling with 3.5 Narnia fics right now. SO I GUESS THAT MEANS YOU.

It's lovely rewatching it after Prince Caspian. You see the beginnings of PC's Peter. The Moseley kid is heartbreakingly good at what he does. Also the awesomeness of Susan being sensible! And the secret angst of Tumnus! OH TUMNUS.

Re: swearbucket: James McAvoy was supposedly the worst offender. God, I fucking love that. *G*

Edmund's "Perhaps we've been incorrectly labeled" still makes me laugh so very, very hard, because it's just so much the archetypal teenage whine. Or something. I love it, anyway.

My favourite moment in that movie, however, remains the bit in the opening scene where Peter's yelling at Edmund - "Why can't you just do as you're told?" - because all his anger is based in his throat-clutching terror and just HEART. So much. (Though the bit where he gives Edmund a girl's coat is also something I'm very fond of. *G*)

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
YA JAMES. <3
I used to avoid seeing cast pictures and reading cast moments in the beginning? I think I just liked their faces being Pevensies & Co. in my head and not, um, WILLMO. Or BINBONS. But apparently word on the street is that they are all pretty adorable with each other. Doesn't change the fact that Skandar has a horrendous haircut and Anna has poor taste in premiere dresses. UM.

That's what tugs my heartstrings about Peter! How he really is so emotional, but also trying really hard to be the rock and dutiful protector of the family (and Narniaaaaaa), and how the combination sometimes ends up with him being a seething tangle of nerves. I am fond of when the Dryad comes into the boys' tent to deliver the message from Susan and Lucy and the first thing Peter does is grab his sword. WHY HALLO THAR HIGH KING.

(...binbonsbinbonsbinbons. binbons! i will not stop saying it!)

[identity profile] alice-pike.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, intruding, but this: 'the first thing Peter does is grab his sword' gets me EVERY TIME. OH MY GOD, PETER. OH MY FUCKING GOD.

I KNOW. OH THE FLAIL-INDUCINGNESS OF THE PEVENSIES.

YO ALICE PIZZLE: ASLAN VS. IOREK BYRNISON. WHO WOULD WIN?!?!?!????? They've both got some pretty compelling weapons. Aslan, for one, is CREEPY AND ALWAYS RIGHT. But ACCORDING TO IOREK, Aslan DOESN'T EXIST. OH CONUNDRUM.

You should join [livejournal.com profile] capslock_hdm, except that it is DEAD, which is TRAGIC. BECAUSE HDM MAKES ME WANT TO TYPE IN CAPSLOCK ALL THE TIME.

[identity profile] alice-pike.livejournal.com 2008-07-27 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
ASLAN VS. IOREK HAS TO BE THE HARDEST QUESTION EVER, OMG. I mean, normally, it's Aslan 'cause he's like, a giant lion and everything, but Iorek's a giant warrior bear. Conundrum indeed, too. I lean towards Iorek, though, because he's just THAT awesome.

I've unfortunately been staying away from everything HDM right now, just because I haven't finished Amber Spyglass yet (I know, what's wrong with me?!) and I'm deathly afraid of being spoiled. But I'm keeping track of everything you mention, because HDM makes me flail and CAPSLOCK all the time, as well.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
You know what is interesting, I have not felt much the desire to fic HDM (though I am open to the reading of HDM fic), and I think this is due to HDM being a better story than, say, um, Narnia? There's less holes to fill in with my fic plaster. Also, if there is oodles of excelelnt HDM fic, they are all HIDING FROM ME. Except that one that is a Narnia/HDM crossover OH BE STILL MY HEART.

I AM TEAM IOREK TOO SECRETLY. 'Cos um I like Pullman's propaganda better. Lewis/Pullman OTP OF CLASHING IDEOLOGIES. They hate everything the other stands for, and if HP has taught us anything, this means that they must be in love.
...WOT, WOT DO YOU MEAN LEWIS IS DEAD??

[identity profile] talk-back.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
Fic of traitors taking advantage of this Law of the Stone Table would also be awesome.
Seconded.

we need more fic about TUMNUS
Also seconded.

I really don't want to be the only one, hoping for fic between Jamie and Georgie after Wanted comes out. Gen, most likely, but seriously anything. Will probably have to write it myself, which is gonna take second seat to new!bat!comm. ::snuggles comm:: Anywho, yes. Your ideas are, generally, awesome.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Ya, this Stone Table premise is kind of messy. I don't want to buy it. OH CANON YOU SLAY ME EVERY TIME.

I haven't seen Wanted and have been advised against seeing it. The trailer didn't intrigue me to begin with, but the very image of Tumnus wielding a gun and shooting shit up is all sorts of WIN in my mind.

[identity profile] bantha-fodder.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 11:20 am (UTC)(link)

I kind of desperately want to write the fic where Peter sacrifices himself on the Stone Table for one of his siblings, but, uh, there's a point where even I start thinking, "...but Peter can't do everything." (YES EVEN ME.)

PETER/NARNIA FOR THE WIN!!! (I have a very one-track mind.)

I need to watch this again, if only for the characterization notes on early Golden Age fic. (Which is so different from writing middle/late Golden Age, or PC.)

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, but Peter would if he could! He would if he couldn't anyway, so say he does and it all goes HORRIBLY WRONG. In that wonderful fanfiction way!

I was actually pleasantly surprised to see upon LWW-rewatching how much PC!Peter is a natural outgrowth of LWW!Peter. It's wonderful and tugs my heartstrings. Moseley knows and loves his character.

What's the quote, a "willing victim that has committed no treachery"? But Peter has -- he betrayed Narnia by leaving at the end of LWW. Now that's horribly wrong.

Of course, we'd have to get Peter back to Narnia.

(Oh, and I totally hear you on fandom being better for text/movie analyzation than English class. Hey, on the bright side, fandom has taught me how to pull "OMG OPRRESSION" out of anything.)

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
What if the treachery was unwillingly done as well? Do intentions count as much as follow-through? *Reformation flashbackz* Peter's leaving was just part of Aslan's grand ineffable plan. If Peter's betrayed Narnia, then Aslan has betrayed Narnia. (OH ASLAN, why are you such a dick?)

Ahaha, I can see that. As for me, fandom has taught me to pull "OMG BUTTSEX" out of anything.

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and are we talking major Benedict Arnold-type treachery here or all treachery, up to and including Mean Girls-level stuff? (I don't remember if there was actually backstabbing in Mean Girls, but you know what I mean.)

ASLAN: WORST GOD EVER. *beatdown*

I'm still convinced that the end of Narnia in The Last Battle was the result of unavenged treason on someone's part, after the White Witch's comment in LWW. (This is, of course, when I acknowledge The Last Battle's existence.)

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, not all treachery, because Aslan may be petty but he's not that petty. Is the treachery okay if it was done in the name of Aslan? Such a fic holds much potential for pseudo-religious/philosophical soapboxing, hmm! I am partial to the suggestion that Aslan is more likable if we imagine him as Samuel L. Jackson, as found in the second secret (http://community.livejournal.com/narnia_secret/2532.html#cutid1) on this week's narnia_secret, which is less a community and more like a HIGHLARIOUS TRAINWRECK.

That is a fascinating theory! And one that makes better storytelling sense than "because that is what happens in the bible" does. Is it because of the betrayal of worshipping a false god? OMG IS IT SUSAN'S BETRAYAL. I would love to read about this theory in fic! *POKES*

I don't know, are we believing his self-righteous speech about all evil deeds really belonging to Tash even if they're done in Aslan's name? (OH MY GOD GAG ME WITH A SPOON. It's almost as bad as Dante's Inferno, and there are few things that annoy me as much as that book.)

*snickers* ...I see what you mean. (The best postsecrets I saw were in SGA fandom, on a vaguely related note, because those were actually about the characters. Unless I missed the entire point.) This is why I cloister myself in my tiny little corner of fandom.

Dude, my extent of acknowledging The Last Battle began and ended with my Susan fanmix. (And possibly the immortal Susan story. We shall see. Only if I can fix it by having Peter be eternally twenty-three and kicking ass and oh my God, I fail at life.) Let us all blame Aslan's betrayal of not helping Narnia!

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oh ya, I forget that deal. I guess not then! Well, plenty of space there to say "TAKE THAT!" to Lewis still.

Ya, true. But then you wouldn't get shit like this (http://i29.tinypic.com/oj3s6g.png)!

Oh my gosh, you're trying to be logical about crack. KUDOS TO YOU, MY BRAVE SOUL. Maybe Peter finds the fountain of youth behind Susan's couch and has a swim in it. MAYBE THEY WATCH A MOVIE STARRING BEN BARNES and are like, "Oh my, doesn't he look familiar?" omg peter/will and susan/anna OMG I blame Aslan. For everything.
ext_2135: narnia: home sweet home (soraki) (Default)

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, Aslan is a jerk. That is all. I would write the fic where they find out Aslan betrayed Narnia if I could figure out how to do it. (Hey, it could be the immortal Susan fic!)

OH MY GOD. (On the other hand, I come from the HP fandom. Dippet/Giant Squid 4eva! *shoot me now*) On the other, other hand, my OTP is Peter and THE LAND, so, um, at least they're both sentient?

I try to be logical about EVERYTHING. (you were not the one I babbled to about the Peter/Narnia story, were you? Earth magic! Peter has Narnia IN HIS BRAIN. I, um, on my computer. half of it.)

*thoughtful* I actually probably could put Aslan's betrayal into that story. And Peter could be eternally young just like Susan! Because of magic! And then they would be eternally awesome TOGETHER, quietly plotting on how to bring back Edmund and Lucy too. Or would that be mean?

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
The HP fandom RULES for crack. I wish the Narnia fandom was half as cracky. Why are some fandoms crackier than others? I read this brilliant thing somewhere on LJ that's like (paraphrased), "Allegory of Christianity, whatev, what about the allegory where they go into a closet, put on women's fur coats, and frolic with fauns and Bacchus?" Because that's the allegory I'm going for.

No, twasn't I! But make it so now! I have a weakness for anthropomorfication. Does Narnia whisper to him in his sleep? Does Narnia make Peter dream of it? The ultimate question is, of course, does Peter masturbate to Narnia? I WOULD READ IT. (Even betaread it if you want.) *AGAIN WITH THE POKING*

It would be mean AND awesome! But they must never succeed! Peter and Susan must angst about their failed attempts to reach Edmund and Lucy, and become ridiculously codependent because of it and Peter's like, "I know how you feel now, all those years" and Susan's like, "No, you don't. You can't possibly." And she kind of resents Peter's presence occasionally, because she has gotten used to being alone, but now he's back and she has no choice but to love him all over again, and she hasn't had to live for anyone but herself in the longest time. And then they have sex.

...That was my crack of your crack. OMG METACRACK
ext_2135: narnia: home sweet home (soraki) (Default)

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
Well, there's always a sense in which Narnia is still...untouchable, for lack of a better world? Because it's been around so long, like LotR? (I don't know. I might be pulling stuff out of thin air here.) HP fandom is, just...well. If I tell you I got into fandom when I was eleven, and that fandom happened to be HP, would that explain A LOT?

Perhaps you have stumbled across earth magic at some point in time? Binding a monarch to the land by blood and magic (specific reference here is to Mercedes Lackey, because I'm crazy like that), anyway, and in this sense there's a mental connection. So there's feedback from the land to the king, and to a lesser extent, from the king to a land (blood sacrifice, to an extent). And I'm trying to figure out a way to slowly sneak this into my 'verse, how Peter's bound to Narnia beyond anything Aslan can do to him. (There's a reason why, in "Freely Offered", Peter's oath is different than Caspian's, and makes no mention of Aslan at all: it's the second oath he took, the one that bound him to Narnia.) Oh, here's (http://bedlamsbard.livejournal.com/253418.html?thread=1179626#t1179626) where I babbled about it. I am sneakily, sneakily going to make this legitimate. This will be the fanon I spread to the Narnia fandom.

HAHAHAHA yes, exactly. I mean, Peter does move in with her, and he ages a few years to his Narnia age (OR DOES HE?), and this would really be the perfect situation for me to write Peter/Susan. And he joins the Bureau, of course, and if Susan creeped people out, Peter does, like, triply so.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
My pulling stuff out of thin air is that the Narnia books attract many more conservative fans...? Initially. And then the movies came out, and it was full speed ahead with the pedophilia and incest and gay sex (or any combination of the three) and other things not considered very conservative.

Scandalousssssss! After all, what would Susan's partner think?!? Or what would Peter think of Susan's partner, which could be just as fun. And Susan is like, *eyeroll*. Then again, they're used to dealing with each other's suitors, back in the day. Also, Peter making fun of Susan's Americanized accent = WIN.

GASP. BED. CAN THEY GO CLUBBING???? Like you talked about?! MODERN-DAY CLUBBING????? Where Peter's like what is this noise and Susan's like that's the music and Peter looks at the dance floor skeptically and a bit confused and he says I thought we were going dancing and Susan says we are.
"That's dancing then, is it?"
"Yes. Yes, it is." She adds, "Try not to start any fights."
And she takes him by the hand.

(omg pevensies in the present day omgidie)

I hope your Susan is not too creepy for clubbing!
ext_2135: narnia: home sweet home (soraki) (Default)

[identity profile] bedlamsbard.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the Narnia books have the more obvious religious metaphor, so you get the crazy religious people.

Susan's partner, Parker, is one of those cocky ex-military guys that has a huge crush on her, so after she goes in for Peter (against orders, I may add), he follows her, and then she makes him help, since he's there. But he gets a little (understandably) traumatized, what with, you know, finding out she's (maybe) immortal and this cute young thing is her OLDER brother.

AHAHAHAHHA. Yes! *snickers*

They go clubbing and they pick up guys! For them to share, of course. (Susan probably has, like, a list of people to call depending on her mood.)

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2008-07-25 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
For them to share, of course.

I want to sink my teeth into that. I don't even know where to start. Back in the Golden Age? Muscle memory? 'Cos it's easier than she anticipated, winding these men around their fingers, and she remembers from all those lifetimes ago, how she and Peter had made such a pretty web. And later in the taxicab, when the man they've chosen kisses them indiscriminately, like Bacchus taking lazy bites of summer fruit, they let him think he is in charge.

Obviously I am just using you as an excuse to write Peter/Susan porn.

I, um, yes. And afterwards, Susan wanders into the kitchen and finds Peter eating ice cream out of the carton, and he looks at her and says, completely honest, "I missed this." And he's not talking about the sex. And Susan goes over to him and hugs him, and they just hold onto each other for a long time, until Peter realizes the ice cream has melted and starts cursing. Susan laughs, a little bit, and Peter dips his fingers into the bowl and flicks the melted ice cream at her. Susan flicks back, spraying drops of mint chocolate chip over his face, and Peter makes a bemused, tolerant sound of protest, sounding exactly like he did all those years ago in Cair Paravel, sprawled on the grass like the boy he looked like.

Um, apparently I am just using you as an excuse to write Peter/Susan domesticity and angst. ONE OF US IS HAVING A HAPPIER TIME HERE.

This post is so epic and I love it.

I have such mixed feelings for Susan; I either love her or hate her. I think Anna and the writers and everyone did an awesome job with her in the movies, if only because she's so easier to understand now, and I can totally sympathize with her attitude after Narnia. I hated her in the books, and I'm pretty sure I still will when I re-read them, even post-movies.

Edmund's "incorrectly labeled" line has to be the best thing, ever. Edmund is also awesome anyway, even when he's being such a jerk. (This may or may not have to do with Skandar being a crazy good actor).

Lol about Tumnus's books. I've paused and re-watched that bit so much trying to see all of the titles. I want to read them, too! I also really want to read that fic that covers his bit before Lucy came, his days in the WW's service.

I lol'd irl at your Father Christmas commentary. That is kind of hilarious. As is the polar bears bit. I used to just think of Lost all of the time, but now it's like, "Oh hai Iorek and/or Iofur!" I also totally second the traitors fic request. It's like my issue in HP with Lily's saving Harry. You're seriously telling me no one's ever done that shit before?

Peter/his duties and Peter/Narnia FTW. The latter especially after his EPIC ANGSTING in PC.

English class be damned, it's fanfiction that really trained me to analyze a text. WORD, BB.

I've also never read The Secret Garden (only seen the movie, a while ago) but I want that fic, as well. I also want your 3.5 Narnia fics, too.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
if only because she's so easier to understand now
Ah yes! I think you've hit the nail on the head here. More moral ambiguity in the climate, more acceptance/understanding of why you rift from family, and also more emo music. Lewis would not have gotten away with that whole "whoopsies they're kids again!" bit as lightly now as he had Back In The Day.

I downloaded the French-dubbed Prince Caspian, 'cos I figure I know the story, I can practice my ear. Uh, my ear SUCKS, couldn't understand as much as I thought I would, but Edmund going, "Roi Edmund. Seulement roi. Peter est Le Grand Roi. Je sais que c'est dure a suivre," still made me go aaaaaaiiiiiiieeeeeeealskdflsajfldsjlf;ks;ldk;sjgOMG.

And! I also downloaded the audiobooks, and those titles are from the LWW book itself! Life and times of SILENUS, and more stuff about humans being myth, something about mermaids, I can't remember, but AWESOME. I WANT THOSE BOOKS.

The Secret Garden book's alright, it's very pastoral, with that "whee the English countryside is just jolly!" vibe going on. They made a movie of it in the early 90s, and that pretty much gets the point across, sort of. I mean, Colin and Mary are angrier than in the books (it was the 90s, I suppose), and movie Dickon is far less charming than book Dickon, the movie gets those OT3 nuances in.

OMG THE FICS. headache. I have two Peter/Susans and an Edmund gen, and all three are in finished draft form, I just have to do much tweaking and poke a beta. I am also toying with an Edmund/Susan, 'cos they're like the yins to Peter and Lucy's yangs, and when Ed&Su get together there's probably a lot of eye-rolling and things said to the effect of "Blast, there they go again."

YOUR COMMENT IS EPIC AND I LOVE IT <33333
