Why did no one TELL ME Psych is so adorable?! I mean, lolz @ 'deductive reasoning' and how everyone in Santa Barbara is totally into psychics, but omg, Shawn is pretty much Seth Cohen in 15 years and Gus is like a geekier Ryan Atwood, WHICH MEANS they are obviously doing it. I'm not too happy that the character they named after me is an uptight butt-monkey, but whatever, rec me some Shawn/Gus and I'll be okay. (How weird would it be if I started writing Psych fic? It's like writing Narnia fic with the pen-name Eustace Scrubb. I have been Lassiter since forever ago!)

Speaking of being late to the party: House. It is delicious! Tell me, O flist, where does one go to get one's dose of non-House/Wilson House fic?

The holidays is for TV. ETA: Okay, Leverage is also pretty awesome, even if Parker is kind of annoying.

I've never done a fic round-up before, and I thought I might do one this year. I thought wrong. Instead, I compiled a self-indulgent list of my favorite fics that I've written and self-indulgently wrote about why I like them.

D'AWW MY ICON OF ADORABLE. Secret Garden OT3 yay! I was debating between this icon and a better shot of THEIR CUTE LITTLE FACES, but then I decided it would creep me out to have their wee children faces staring at me when I am posting about their sexings. Basically, [livejournal.com profile] sweet__tea has the bomb-ass icons -- I nearly OD'ed on her Peter&Susan LWW icons, oh man. Death by cuuuute.

Okay, I'm going to summarize LWW and The Secret Garden at the same time. ) And then they live happily ever after. At least, until the post-book hormones kick in and there are angstful romantic entanglements.

Which is where this fic comes in! This is, say, 10-ish years down the line? Written for [livejournal.com profile] 1sentence using the Gamma prompt table. The comm doesn't technically do threesomes, so I officially signed up for Mary/Dickon. But we know better.

The title means "you've been promised the world by some" and the epigraph means "others promised you heaven". Both are from the song "Je Pense à Toi" by Amadou & Mariam, who have the <333est band formation story ever. (They met at Mali's Institute for the Young Blind, bonded over a shared love of music, then a shared of love for each other, then they got married and now they are international husband&wife music stars of awesome.)

The Secret Garden. Colin/Mary/Dickon. PG13. Warning: Colin and Mary are cousins. But marriage between cousins was more common then, so take that as you will?
A decade later, and some things change.

crackfic in the New York Times. Oh, you think I am kidding. It is crackfic of The Secret Garden. Dickon/Mary/Colin, rated R! OH, YOU THINK I AM KIDDING. Not only do I find Secret Garden fic, not only do I find fic in the New York Times, but I find Secret Garden fic in the New York Times. I don't think the New York Times would publish it if it weren't crackfic though, yanno I mean?

AND OH MY GOD OH MY GOD SECRET GARDEN FIC except it is a BOOK: "Return to the Secret Garden" by Susan Moody. Check out this very excellent review:

It started off ok, but Susan Moody didn't waste any time in destroying the book. I can understand how Dickon went somewhat crazy after the war. But Mary and Colin? Mary is nothing better than a whore, and Colin becomes gay! I find it disturbing that Mary's first husband married her simply because she looked like her mother, with whom he had been in love. Her behavior toward her child was cruel, and totally different from the personality of Mary formed in the original. At the beginning of "The Secret Garden" I admit that Mary was a bit of a brat. But she grows out of that, then speedily becomes the brat she once was in Susan Moody's sequel. She would not have treated her own child in the exact way her own mother treated her. Colin is also disapointing. After he marries his cousin--very nasty--Mary finds out he is gay when she is carrying his child! Dickon is not the charming, lovable boy read about in the original. Mary refuses his offer of marriage because he is below her in social status. After reading this book a few months ago, I was strongly disturbed, and still am. If you love "The Secret Garden," DO NOT READ THIS BOOK!!! [from here]
This review pretty much details exactly why I think I would LOVE THIS BOOK. And no wonder, it sounds just like fanfic. Of course Mary rejects Dickon because of Societal Conventions. And I can see the reasoning behind why Mary would be a bad parent. And Colin marrying Mary and being GASP SECRETLY GAY?! BE STILL MY HEART. Have any of you read this book? Is it as wonderful as it sounds?

OH MY GOD. *STABS VISA APPLICATION PROCESS*

In happier news, I watched LWW again! ) Oh, Peter's delightful need to Have Everything Sorted and be grown-up and know what's best for everyone! Oh, his pompous honor being all "none of you can possibly take care of yourself!" Peter/his duties! Its evil twin is Peter/himself, and both are precursors of Peter/Narnia.

Mostly LWW has awakened me to the fact that we need more fic about TUMNUS. Particularly Tumnus struggling with his conscience, doing questionable things as part of the spy brigade, and let's even throw in the "I'll never be as honorable as my father!" trope, just for kicks! I want to read about Tumnus passing Lucy's handkerchief on to Badger, and then the secret police catch him and he goes into a world of shit. Basically I want the fic that explains why he answers Edmund's "Are you Tumnus?" with "What's left of him." YES PLEASE.

I enjoyed rewatching LWW knowing I'm going to fic it. By this point I've become a bit comfy in my own fanon, so watching the movie became a bit of a squeeparty, seeing how canon and my fanon merge and diverge. English class be damned, it's fanfiction that really trained me to analyze a text (even if a lot of the analysis tends to devolve into trawling for angst-fodder). I became more sensitive to what I like and don't like, and to moments of OMGSQUEEness and WTFery, for their sheer plot-bunny potential. Books and movies stopped being static, and became but a starting line. <3 fandom!

I spent FAR TOO LONG on TV Tropes again and discovered that my two favorite things about its Narnia page is the 'Shmuck Bait' of The Magician's Nephew and the fact that, when it talked about Susan losing her faith, she is linked to a trope called 'Agent Scully'. This makes my mind explode in all sorts of ways. AWESOME.

Hey, you guys remember that Disney cartoon from the '70s called "The Rescuers" with the mice? Remember the 'General Assembly' of mice in the United Nations building, and there was one delegate mouse from Arabia and ONE from AFRICA? Ya. LOLZ.

OKAY. The Secret Garden fic where, years later, Colin, Mary, and Dickon have sexytimes in the hundred rooms of Misselthwaite Manor, and the servants suspect what's going on but don't dare say anything because Colin and Mary would shove a boot up their asses. Colin is still possessive of Mary, and she still resents this possessiveness, but she loves her cousin. And Dickon, of course, loves everyone and everything, especially his moor and his animals. Shall you write it or shall I? Keep in mind I am simultaneously twiddling with 3.5 Narnia fics right now. SO I GUESS THAT MEANS YOU.

ETA: Cutesicle all over the place! Especially the swear bucket. Interspersed with dashes of "hmm, interesting!"
