In lieu of an actual 5.18 reaction post, have this:

"Blow me, Cas."

"O RLY?"

"Cas."

"I learned that from my friend Cas, you son of a bitch."
-- 5.01: Sympathy for the Devil

When Castiels Happen to Deans

Jupiter.

A blade of grass.

"Woah, wait, you're going to take on five angels?"

"Yes."
"Isn't that suicide?"

"Maybe it is. But then I won't have to watch you fail."

"Sorry, Dean."

Okay, willingly running into traps in abandoned buildings when you know you've got a snowball's chance in hell of coming back out. Is this reminding anyone else of 'The End'? But at the same time, this is vehemently NOT 'The End' because unlike this Castiel right here, Croatverse Cas totally stuck around to watch Dean fail. This Cas, on the other hand, is not yet dead inside. CAS, BUDDY, YOU'RE GONNA BE OKAY. (I THINK.)

AN EXTREMELY, EXTREMELY IMPORTANT QUESTION. Who cut the banishing sigil into Cas's chest?
A) Dean
B) Sam
C) himself
ETA: 2A. What do you call that knife thing they use to cut it?
A) boxcutter
B) exacto knife
C) something else
2B) Where do people call it that?

also: D) Cas starts carving, only to find it's a tough angle to gauge accuracy from, and so Dean says Fuck's sake, gimmie the knife, I'll finish it. And Cas looks him right in the eye while handing the box cutter to Sam.
where, oh where, is the horrifying/amazing porn where the hilt of an angel sword is used the way god intended? you know what i mean. don't play like you don't.

I had stuff to say, I think, but you have distracted me with all the pretty, and I must now go stare at
Misha'sCas's nose, cheekbones, wrists and chest.Umm, I think it had to be either Dean or Sam, because it seems impossible that he'd do it himself. I would normally assume that he'd give it to Dean, but what with the betrayal he's feeling this episode, I think it's quite likely it was Sam.

*hours later* RIGHT WHERE WAS I?
1) The correct answer is that Cas tells them what he's going to do and both Sam and Dean stare at him in disbelief. "You're going to carve it into your skin?" asks Sam and Cas smirks and says "No. You do it," while holding the blade out to Dean. Then Sam has to awkwardly hold Cas' trenchcoat while Dean barely scratches the knife over Cas' chest. "Deeper," Cas growls, and grabs Dean's wrist, drags the knife through his skin and stares Dean down.
2) In Australia we call it a stanley knife! I think it was originally a brand name, or something.

1. http://mikes-grrl.livejournal.com/142225.html
2. exacto
3. I'm in the Southern U.S., but it is what I learned from my father, who was military. So....dunno? I use "boxcutter" now mostly because it seems everyone is more familiar with that term.
Wonderful picspam, thank you! I'm just watching this ep over and over, send help. My ghods, so much to parse. I think I'll stick with "dsskdflsdkajdfjjvd!!!! *THUD*" as a working topic.
Also, interested in your feedback on this idea:

If their faces were one milliliter closer in that fight scene, I think they would meet the technical definition of kissing.
1: C. I think he did it himself, while Sam and Dean watched slack-jawed, as their claims to BAMF-hood, well, shriveled.
2: B: An exacto knife (US East Coast).

It feels like I shouldn't find the caps from the fight scene hot, but I do. But the scene makes me too /o\ to picspam it myself.

2A) Boxcutter
2B) Um. Everywhere? I think of an exacto knife as like that, only smaller. A boxcutter is usually like at least an inch wide, I'd say.
3) This picspam is:
a) Awesome
b) AWESOME
c) A++ AWESOME

Cas has just gotten cooler and cooler. I must admit. He's currently the most intriguing character on Show. And his relationship with Dean (slash fanfic aside) is actually very interesting. I ENJOY YOUR SLOW DESCENT, CAS. YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT GOOD INTENTIONS.

As for the questions, this first thing I thought about after the show was over was who cut the sigil into Cas' chest. I figure he either did it to himself or gave it to Dean and said something along the lines of "Since you have so much practice drawing the sigil, you do it."
2a.) exacto knife
2b.) new jersey

I call that knife a boxcutter and I'm from California. It appears to have a razor blade which gets changed out when it gets dull.
An exacto knife is smaller and the blade longer.

As for the questions:
I think it was supposed to be implied that Castiel cuts it himself. However, since he exchanges the expositional dialogue with Dean, not to MENTION all their moments throughout this episode, I think it's a fair fangirl assessment to say that Dean assisted. Since I am a Dean girl and I adore Cas, Sam is always auxiliary anyway.
They're using a boxcutter, because it is orange (industrial safety color) and has a wide blade for slicing cardboard. Exacto knives are tools of precision and usually used by artists for fine work. They look like silvery pens with a blade instead of a felt tip. I'm from New York and the definition is pretty clear around here.

I MUCH ENJOYED YOUR CAPSPAM
PS my first thought was, Cas does the exacto-knife/boxcutter carving. But it would be awkward and kinda hard. He would let Sam do it cos I don't think Dean would, or would be able to. (SHIT THIS EPISODE I WAS SO SO SO SO HAPPY, IT WASN'T JUST THE DEAN SHOW, IT WAS THE SAM AND CAS AND DEAN SHOW <33333)
