i brake for thesis

1. Is 2010 like the year of the earthquake? There was another one in western China's Qinghai province this morning, seven on the richter and so far at least 600 dead. The Huffington Post has links to how you can help. Fandom, are we gonna have ourselves a help_china?

2. How about the AU where Cas and Anna are hunters together, and the Winchesters are angels. Uriel is the Bobby. What the hell would their last names be? The emotional/plot notes can't be the same as SPN. Anna is the older sister who wants out of this life, running away not to go to college, but to a simple life working some simple job. Younger bro Cas tracks her down when... something happens. Or maybe it's something else that compels her to go back to the life, because Anna in canon is never forced into anything. Canonically, she chose to fall, then she chose to be an angel again. So maybe something happens to Cas, and Anna is the one who pursues him. They reconnect, sort of. That is the pilot episode.

Mostly I just want to write about Cas and Anna on a road trip, patching each other up, fighting about their dad, Cas resenting Anna's aloofness, and Anna pitying his frustration. Recounting memories of their childhood and how much things have changed, but sometimes when Anna is the last one to fall asleep, she stares at the ceiling and listens to her brother's breathing in the next bed and it feels like being fourteen again, shacked up in another shitty motel room and waiting for Dad to come home. It's like that with Cas, she finds: being with her brother sometimes feels like time standing still.

I have no idea what the plot is, since Cas and Anna are emotionally so different from Dean and Sam. Anna is not so blindly self-sacrificing, and she probably has to end up pulling Cas back from a lot of stupid decisions. She always tell her little brother he has to think, man, think for yourself. "I'm not always going to be around to boss you around," Anna says, and she's smiling this crooked smile, and it feels like a little too much foreshadowing for Cas.

Mostly I want to rewrite 4.01 where Cas is all, "WHO ARE YOU," and Dean is like, "Dude, I'm the one who pulled you out of the fucking pit. Some thanks I get." Mostly I wanna rewrite 4.02 where Dean gets all in Cas's face in the end, all like, "Look, pal," etc. And omg, 4.16? 4.22? 5.04? jflksjdl.

But would this AU even naturally lead to canon S4? I don't know if Cas would summon a crossroad demon to bring Anna back from the dead. Maybe he'd do it for his dad, though. Maybe Cas goes to hell to get his dad back and Anna says DON'T DO THAT ARE YOU CRAZY, but yes, sometimes Cas is crazy, and something goes wrong and he gets stuck downstairs. Anna staunchly goes through every lore she knows trying to trick hell into giving her her brother back. Nothing works. Dean pulls Cas out of hell, but WHY? (Plus, Cas probably got all, "You should've saved my dad, not me," at Dean.)

And where does Sam come in? Maybe Sam is the Anna, and when he chose to fall, Dean spent years secretly looking for him on earth.

Aaaand that's all I got. I dunno, anyone wanna ramble it out with me in comments? Everyone should have a hunter AU. Mulder and Scully should be hunters. Gaga and Beyonce should be hunters. Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse should be hunters.

3. Meme time! Similar to the concept of [livejournal.com profile] firstlines1000, give me the first line and I'll reply with it as the first line of a ficlet/drabble thingie. Fandoms: Supernatural, Supernatural RPF, Fight Club, The Office, Parks & Recreation, classic Disney/WB cartoons, X-Files, Boondock Saints, Leverage, random anthropomorphism.

[identity profile] zempasuchil.livejournal.com 2010-04-15 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
But WHY would John give Cas up in the first place?
that might be the difference - Cas and Anna are dealing with a dad who will sacrifice anything for the world, whereas the Winchesters have John who will sacrifice the world for his family. So maybe Cas's dad doesn't have to make a deal with the devil, he just goes for old fashioned self-sacrifice, and Cas tries going after him?

that scene is a GORGEOUS scene, with Sam filling up with light and them looking at each otherrr. "My brother is not a monster." DEEEAN. OH SAMNDEAN <3

I also love Ruby and her utter conviction. I want good fic or something about her because the show just couldn't make her sympathetic, not really after season 3.

Thank you! omg Z I just wrote a two-part comment outlining angels!Winchesters fic in reply to hiza_chan. Am I crazy? Could this be a Big Bang? Is my first Big Bang gonna be in SPN? Why SPN gotta make me do so many crazy things re: writing? Who would read this AU gen? Is it too Wincestuous for D/C fans? Too many angels for Wincest fans? Why is it - when I mean to write Cas/Anna humantimes - that I end up plotting Winchester angeltimes?

Who is the big bad angel after Sam, I wonder. I'm thinking Azazel, but changing the name to Azrael, but making it obvious that it's Azazel by having him have golden eyes. Or something. Or maybe it's Alastair?

Why has this AU eaten my brain.

[identity profile] zempasuchil.livejournal.com 2010-04-16 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
AUs are all ABOUT brain-eating! The good ones, at least! Dude, isn't it awesome? :DDD I am really excited about all the crazy things SPN make you do re: writing, babe.

I don't think it is too Wincestuous for those who like D/C, but then I don't know if D/C fans are irrationally crazy. I mean, the show is about Winchesters, so if your fic is about Winchesters BUT ALSO CAS IN NEW AND INTERESTING WAYS I don't see how they could possibly object. And no way is it too many angels! You are looking at fandom sectors and I think you should look at your source material and you will see you are treating on it in an admirably wholistic way rather than piecemeal like crazy shippers are wont. be proud!!!

(I am not surprised it ends up as Winchester angeltimes. I mean, you're still writing about angels, just, not our secondary character angels. But I'm just saying, this show is hard to tear away from our heroes when it's not just a short cut scene or whatever.)

I like that, Azrael with golden eyes! I am SURE Heaven has counterpart type people for these figures - Alastair especially. A heavenly Alastair counterpart would be terrifying. actually... kinda Gabriel, if playing with people before killing them counts as torture. which it does.

OH AND ANOTHER THING. Sam's dreams about his angelic other life? The strongest brightest ones are about Dean. All the angels pick up on this disturbance in the angelic force, so Dean does too and his heart kind of drops out his chest (if he had a heart). He never realized Sam cared this much, you know? But here Sam is, in a new life and not even the same creature, and still hung up on Dean. He knows the other angels are gonna see this too, this love. Dean thinks, I'm so fucked. He also thinks, Thank god. He's horrified and relieved. When he makes to leave, he runs into angel!Bobby (--and what the hell am I gonna name angel!Bobby, or should I just have him say idjit a lot--) and for a moment you think it's gonna devolve to fisticuffs, but what Bobby ends up doing is saying something like, "I'll buy you time before I tell the others. But I have to tell the others. Fly hard." And Dean does, and he thinks maybe there's hope for angels after all. There's hope for him and hope for Sam and he hurtles down to earth with the sound of Sam's true voice echoing in his head going Dean Dean Dean.

And another parallel that would be fun to play with is how angels don't feel and how canon Dean is all about being too manly to have feelings. XD

Do you think if I have most of the fic in Dean POV, but I switch occasionally to other POVs, that would be, like, a faux pas? Hmm, but maybe I don't need to switch POVs if I can just have Dean read their minds...

I wish I could wordvomit some Cas&Anna, but I feel like that'll be one of those things that unfurls once I get Dean there. I just gotta wait.

AND. In the end maybe Sam and Dean ditch their vessels and are renegade angels in their true forms. It kind of wouldn't be fair to not!Jensen that he signed up to be a servant of heaven, but now he's a servant to a rebel angel. But then again, what's to stop the angels from kidnapping not!Jensen and torturing him for information? Should not!Jensen be comatose when Dean possesses him? Should he be dead? Mannnn, vessel consent issues!

Haha, I am totally just looking at sectors, you are right. I wonder if I'll throw in some Dean/Anna or Dean/Cas in the end.

This idea is super win. I approve.

Also, maybe not!Jensen could be in a coma that he's not gonna wake up from. I like their bodies too much for them to ditch their vessels. But at the same time, I guess having him be dead would work, but then if Dean had to like leave his body somewhere for a period of time when he came back it wouldn't be quite so minty fresh. And if he left his vessel, the angels would totally torture him for information about Dean's whereabouts. So... I don't think that would work. Your best bets are probably coma or death.

Haha, I am totally just looking at sectors, you are right. I wonder if I'll throw in some Dean/Anna or Dean/Cas in the end.

...I totally vote for the Dean/Cas. Because... ya. I love their dynamic together.

Also! regarding POV. I think you could definitely write it mostly in Dean's POV but maybe switch to Anna and Cas at certain points. It would work. Plus, I want to hear some of this story from Cas' POV cause Cas!hunter sounds so fun. God, I'd love to play around in his head.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-04-16 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
:D thanks

Maybe not!Jensen is desolate and broken that he says yes to Dean because Jensen doesn't care if he lives or dies? Oh god, poor vessels. OR. Maybe Dean and not!Jensen talk it out and it turns out that not!Jensen agrees with Dean's cause so he doesn't mind being a vessel.

Gah, maybe Dean should just make a body for himself. Or maybe I just don't address and hope no one notices. Dean possesses not!Jensen and leaves him at the end to be angels with Sam, and I run away before anyone has a fridge moment.

God, I'd love to play around in his head.
Cas's head is such an interesting place, no matter what form he's in. XD

omg <333333 my heart is pitter-patter. I like this Dean, I like that he and Sam are drawn together more than pushed apart, that they both want to love each other instead of mostly hiding behind being repressed and manly about the importance of family.

I dunno the authoritative source on angels but google gives me for B-angels "Barrattiel - angel of support." Which is pretty Bobby. But unfortunately you can't get that close to "bobby" with an angel name. Bobbiel. heh. He is going to say idjit at least once, I mean the writers rely on that so much to be his catchphrase and they invented him.

Do angels read minds like that? I think it would be kinda weirder to have our main character reading minds than to have POV-switch episodes.

vessel-consent issues are so haaard! I wonder what Dean would think, if he'd think about possessing a dead or comatose person before a live praying one. Ooh, you know what would be cool, someone desperately looking for redemption with no idea of how to do it, friendless and lifeless, trying to think of a way to start over or something - what if an angel swooped them up then? like, you're making bad choices but you want to do the right thing so I'll let you be the vessel for the right thing. It's not morally consensual but it is moral? Anyway, it would clearly be easier for plot purposes to have Dean inhabit a dead/comatose person. though it would be sad to do that to not!Jensen.

I wonder if I'll throw in some Dean/Anna or Dean/Cas in the end.
:D the more the merrier? yessss.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-04-18 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's easier to love each other when there's no apocalypse going on in the background. Ha, probz not. But yeah I guess now their biggest problem is that theirs is a star-crossed bromance. I wonder how Wincestuous it's gonna get. Is it Wincest if they're angelbrothers? Angelcest? I kind of see the connection between angels as more tribal than familial/fraternal [Totally nabbed this comparison from Mike Carey's Lucifer!].

Yeah I guess I'll choose a B name out of an angel name list, and just make him say idjit a lot. Barquiel. Yeah, angels can read each other's minds, it's canon. But not automatically; they have to intend to.

VESSEL CONSENT. Maybe Dean can pull the "I just wanna find my brother!" card on not!Jensen. PLEASE PLEASE LET ME FIND MY BROTHER IN YOUR BODY, I AM SO DESPERAAAATE. Okay, Dean doesn't beg. But he gets his point across. And I dunno, maybe he and not!Jensen can negotiate something. Not!Jensen says if I say yes, then you have to do XYZ.

GAH, NOT!JENSEN, DON'T TELL YOU ARE THE ONE COCKBLOCKING MY FIC.

Maybe I should just have Dean create himself a whole new body to inhabit, or something.

[identity profile] zempasuchil.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
The tribal idea makes more sense to me. Angel dynamics are kinda confusing tbh. They are competitive like brothers I think, but beyond that they seem to be the sort of brothers that have grown apart.

I like the "wanna find my brother" card. cockblocking! XDDD I like the deal idea. Dean is tempted to run roughshod because that's what angels do and what he's after is clearly more important than whatever drama is going on in guitar player's life, but he soon feels some sympathy cos it's family trouble or something?

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god, if Dean and not!Jensen have sympathetic conversations together in his head. Too many emotional subplots. Not!Jensen, we don't have time for your drama! Maybe not!Jensen is dormant for the most part, but Dean pokes him awake when he needs to talk, or advice, or something.

[identity profile] zempasuchil.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe not!Jensen is dormant for the most part, but Dean pokes him awake when he needs to talk, or advice, or something.
This would make for some interesting scenes! Dean has a confidant who may or may want to listen, but at least their conversations are private. And it is slightly better than talking to himself, right? heh.
