1. Is 2010 like the year of the earthquake? There was another one in western China's Qinghai province this morning, seven on the richter and so far at least 600 dead. The Huffington Post has links to how you can help. Fandom, are we gonna have ourselves a help_china?
2. How about the AU where Cas and Anna are hunters together, and the Winchesters are angels. Uriel is the Bobby. What the hell would their last names be? The emotional/plot notes can't be the same as SPN. Anna is the older sister who wants out of this life, running away not to go to college, but to a simple life working some simple job. Younger bro Cas tracks her down when... something happens. Or maybe it's something else that compels her to go back to the life, because Anna in canon is never forced into anything. Canonically, she chose to fall, then she chose to be an angel again. So maybe something happens to Cas, and Anna is the one who pursues him. They reconnect, sort of. That is the pilot episode.
Mostly I just want to write about Cas and Anna on a road trip, patching each other up, fighting about their dad, Cas resenting Anna's aloofness, and Anna pitying his frustration. Recounting memories of their childhood and how much things have changed, but sometimes when Anna is the last one to fall asleep, she stares at the ceiling and listens to her brother's breathing in the next bed and it feels like being fourteen again, shacked up in another shitty motel room and waiting for Dad to come home. It's like that with Cas, she finds: being with her brother sometimes feels like time standing still.
I have no idea what the plot is, since Cas and Anna are emotionally so different from Dean and Sam. Anna is not so blindly self-sacrificing, and she probably has to end up pulling Cas back from a lot of stupid decisions. She always tell her little brother he has to think, man, think for yourself. "I'm not always going to be around to boss you around," Anna says, and she's smiling this crooked smile, and it feels like a little too much foreshadowing for Cas.
Mostly I want to rewrite 4.01 where Cas is all, "WHO ARE YOU," and Dean is like, "Dude, I'm the one who pulled you out of the fucking pit. Some thanks I get." Mostly I wanna rewrite 4.02 where Dean gets all in Cas's face in the end, all like, "Look, pal," etc. And omg, 4.16? 4.22? 5.04? jflksjdl.
But would this AU even naturally lead to canon S4? I don't know if Cas would summon a crossroad demon to bring Anna back from the dead. Maybe he'd do it for his dad, though. Maybe Cas goes to hell to get his dad back and Anna says DON'T DO THAT ARE YOU CRAZY, but yes, sometimes Cas is crazy, and something goes wrong and he gets stuck downstairs. Anna staunchly goes through every lore she knows trying to trick hell into giving her her brother back. Nothing works. Dean pulls Cas out of hell, but WHY? (Plus, Cas probably got all, "You should've saved my dad, not me," at Dean.)
And where does Sam come in? Maybe Sam is the Anna, and when he chose to fall, Dean spent years secretly looking for him on earth.
Aaaand that's all I got. I dunno, anyone wanna ramble it out with me in comments? Everyone should have a hunter AU. Mulder and Scully should be hunters. Gaga and Beyonce should be hunters. Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse should be hunters.

an AU of an AU
"So change the station," Sam says, hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. And Dean does, going through talk shows and hip-hop and country ballads and the newest emo before settling on Don McLean singing "Starry, Starry Night", of all things. Dean Smith isn't his boss anymore, so Sam can freely tell him how much his taste in music is like what Sam finds on the bottom of his shoe, and Dean says, "Hey, I bet you knew all the words to American Pie once."
Sam says, quite truthfully, "No."
It's just a lot of noise and static as they cruise up the I-95, this bickering. They're trying not to think about the werewolf they're gonna gank in Keene, New Hampshire. They've never ganked a werewolf before. They've been sticking to ghosts so far, the sad and easy spooks that don't know enough to leave the world they're not a part of anymore, dispelled easily with salt, fuel, and fire. Dean had said, "Sure, gotta crawl before you can walk, but we gotta walk sometime, Sammy. Let's kick this werewolf's ass."
He doesn't even mind it anymore when Dean calls him Sammy.
There are guns in the trunk. There is a rosary in his pocket. He is learning Latin. Sometimes when his mom calls, Sam doesn't even pick up because he's tired of repeating the same excuses, but Dean, he picks up his phone every time. "It's my dad/mom/sister," he'd say, and then he'd excuse himself, and when he comes back, he pretends like there's nothing wrong, grinning like a marionette.
Yeah, things have changed, or something. Sam can't quite explain it. He doesn't know why it doesn't even feel like change, not really, more like his vision clearing. Sam has never been to the east coast in his life, but he looks out at the landscape now and he thinks he recognizes this sky, this stretch of road.
"I'm going to have to veto this," Sam says, reaching for the radio.
"Come on, man," Dean says, "this is my favorite part."
"Driver picks the music, shotgun shuts his cakehole."
Dean says, "What?"
"Huh?"
Their eyes meet in the rearview mirror, and just as quickly they look away. Something twists in Sam's chest. There's this thing. There's this thing that keeps on fluttering just beyond Sam's reach, and he thinks he almost recognizes it some days. Sometimes when Sam says Dean's name, he feels like he's not really talking to Dean. It's like Sam knows the feel of the name in his mouth better than the person in front him, the one the name belongs to.
Sam stops on a station playing AC/DC's "Back in Black" and turns up the volume, and Dean rolls his eyes.
"News flash, Sammy," he says. "The eighties died twenty years ago."
"You'll learn to love it, jerk," Sam says.
"Bitch."
And just for that, Sam turns the volume up some more.

YES YES YES THIS ♥
I've always been curious how Sam and Dean would be different if you reversed their ages. I don't think I've ever seen a satisfactory AU exploring how being the caretaker would change Sam, although I've seen some pretty decent younger!Dean.
Anna&Cas would read a bit like that, but not really. Castiel adores his older sister but fights with her about Dad. Anna doesn't understand why Cas holds their father in such high regard. as;ajsj;asld I need to think on this some more. (Hopefully
You know how you asked for an intrepid investigative journalist AU over at may's thing? I chewed on that idea for a while and now Castiel and Gabriel are co-commentators with Raphael as the weather guy, Anna as the intrepid field reporter, Uriel is the sports guy, and Michael and Lucifer are the political pundits that get into screaming matches on their show. Uh.
Hmmm, prompt, prompt ...
Castiel is tracing symbols in the dust of the earth when he feels the shift, space bending around one of his brethren.

4x18 coda
Cas, Anna says by way of greeting.
He says, The last time we met, I told you I was considering disobedience.
I remember. Well?
Well what?
Are you disobedient?
Castiel hesitates, because he isn't sure.
He tells her what happened: the Prophet's visions, Sam and Lilith, Dean praying. He prayed, Castiel repeats in wonderment. He prayed, and I helped him. I don't think I was disobedient.
Anna smiles with one side of her mouth, and says, You're adorable, Cas.
He frowns.
She says, Everyone should be so lucky, getting their prayers answered just like that. But where would the world be if everyone got what they want, huh? And then she asks, What do you want, Cas?
What I want is irrelevant.
Do you want to be disobedient?
I... (What a question, he thinks.) I want to do the right thing.
She smiles with her whole face now, and says, Now you're getting it. Then, to Castiel's bewilderment, Anna does the most inexplicable thing: she pinches his cheek, and giggles, My little brother's growing up.
Castiel shakes his head to shake off her hand, and Anna laughs.

She's on her lunch break when she sees his picture on the TV, serious blue eyes staring blankly at the screen, mouth turned down in a frustrated scowl.
She scoots her table closer to listen to the announcement; fugitive considered armed and dangerous. It's not a good picture, really. Grainy on the bad TV the company reluctantly paid for, and Castiel rarely frowns anyway, though he can pull quite an impressive bitchface. When she goes back to work, she finds his last known location and pulls up Google maps, tracing roads in and out of San Francisco.
She hands in her two weeks notice at the end of the day.
"You'll be hard to replace," her boss says, and writes her a letter of recommendation that she tucks into her journal as she packs. There's no way out, not really, and she's always known this, but this is her proof of life.
no subject
Midnight. Cas nearly shoots her in Golden Gate Park, but he isn't focused; he misses. He's hurt: his footsteps are uneven, and his silhouette is wild and flailing, and he's breathing in ragged anapestic rhythm, which means he's in pain. She calls his name, once, twice, careful as she approaches, relieved to hear his footsteps slow.
"Cas," she says.
The reply comes like an echo in its hesitation and hope: "Anna?"
She steps out of the shadows, gun still in hand, but the wondering recognition on his face is all she needs to run to him; he looks ready to fall over. "Cas--"
"Keep your gun out," Cas hisses. "The werewolf--"
The howl resounds from just behind the trees.
SKIP AHEAD, they're in some cheap motel, Anna is digging around Cas's bag for needle and thread, "Where is it, Cas?" "Anna, sit down--" but she doesn't, and it's hard to see, it's so goddamn-- She lifts a hand to her head and slowly realizes. Her forehead is sticky with blood, it's falling into her eyes. She can't stitch Cas up like this.
"Anna, sit down."
"Your arm--"
"Sit down."
AND SKIP AHEAD, Cas is driving Anna's car out of San Francisco, and Anna is listless and limp in the passenger seat, staring out the window, entrenched in deja vu. And Cas, he's still the same Cas, all grim quiescence and discomfiting single-mindedness. He's skinnier, he's taller, he's messier, and lined, but Anna knows the downward curve of his mouth and the tension in his arms, and she thinks This is my brother, as if reminding herself. This is my life, as if reminding herself. He lived it with me, baptized in blood. And now she is confirmed.
"I tried," Anna says. "I gave it a shot."
She doesn't know if Cas understands, and she doesn't care.
"The feds are after you, Cas," she says, softly.
Cas says, "I know."
SKIP FORWARD. Cas asks her where she keeps the crucifix, and Anna says in her bag. So he looks through her bag. Wallet, keys, gun, tampons, butterfly knife, compact, phone charger -- her journal falls out. He picks it up, and a piece of paper falls out, and it is a letter of recommendation from her last employer. Cas just stares at it for a while, holding it in his hand, staring like it's some astonishing thing, this piece of paper praising his sister's industriousness and amenable personality, and not even using her real name.
"Did you find it?"
Cas turns around and meets her eyes, and she glances at the paper in his hand.
"It's in the front pocket," Anna says.
Cas folds the letter back up again and slips it between the pages of her journal, and checks the front pocket of Anna's bag. He finds the crucifix.
SKIP AHEAD. Anna didn't tell Cas or their dad where she was going when she left, but they found out easily enough. For a while, she never stayed in one place for very long, but then she seemed to like the looks of some shitty town in Kansas, and there she stayed. Shortly after Anna left, Dad had said, "Now that she's gone, we need to pull her weight," and they started hunting alone. Cas could hunt alone, sure, and Dad was right, they could cover more ground this way.
Sometimes Dad called and would say, "I know you're in her area," and asked Cas to check up on Anna. And yeah, Dad, she's fine. She's reading a book in the park, she's putting groceries into the back of her car, she's kissing some guy outside of a bar, she's fine. And Cas wonders how often Dad checks up on Anna too, when he happens to be in her area.
Cas is not entirely surprised when, now, years later, Anna says to him, "You never came up and said hi, all those times you were watching me."
"Should I have?"
Anna shrugs. "Then again, I never came up and said hi to you."
Cas just watches her for a few seconds, this girl in jeans and a tank top cleaning guns on a motel bed. And he says, "Hi."
She smiles, looking down the barrel of a gun. "Hi." She says, "It's good to see you."

BUT PLOT
The fic wherein Cas goes to hell is going to be rife with Orpheus parallels. In the final moment where Cas fucks up, and his dad is pulled back, and Cas is about to be pulled in too, or throw himself in after his dad (because if he cannot save his father, then he does not deserve to live anyway), that's when Dean grips him tight and raises him from perdition.
So, back in the world, fresh after the rescue, Cas is throwing a fit about Dean not saving his father. But Dean says, "Your dad chose this." And Cas says, "I choose my father." And Dean says, "That's now how it works, buddy." And then Dean says, "Call your sister, she's worried sick," and then the angel disappears.
Anna's voice in his ear is shaky and sharp: "Cas!"
Like an echo: "Anna."
"Cas, are you okay?"
But Cas's eyes are full of the image of his father being pulled back into the darkness of the flames, and he cannot say yes.
The first time Dean meets Anna, he puts on his Dazzling Smile (TM) and lays on some cheesy flirty line. Anna is just like, "...Is that how angels say hello?" And Dean says, "It's how I say hello." Dean just hits all over this family, basically.
Also, in some later episode, Cas is being volatile about something (perhaps he is exercising thinking for himself in sad and destructive ways), and Anna and Dean are talking to each other about trying to stop him, and Anna says, "What makes you think you can stop him, if I couldn't?"
"You're his sister," Dean says. "He's too used to saying no to you."
There's something heavy in Dean's voice when he says it, a weight Anna has not heard from him before.

And I do think the AU could lead to Canon S4. I agree, I don't think he'd summon a demon to bring Anna back. Anna might, but I think both of them would be really hurt, but they'd accept it. I much prefer the idea of him doing it for his dad. And um. Dean pulls Cas from hell because he thinks he's one smokin' piece of ass? Haha. No, I'm kidding. You could possibly use the whole, "Dude, I'm your Guardian Angel." because you know that Dean would make an AWFUL Guardian Angel. If he was Cas' guardian angel when Cas went to hell he would've pulled him up against regulations just because over the years he really grew to like Cas.
And I like the idea that Sam is Anna, that he chose to fall and Dean spent forever looking for him. Cause even an AU where they were angels I really don't think they'd just be Lucifer and Michael. And speaking of them, would you even use the Michael and Lucifer plotline? Or just not acknowledge that bit of canon. Which... can't get to Season 5 without Lucifer. I mean, I guess you could go ZOMBIE!Apocalypse instead of ANGEL!Apocalypse, but putting angels in the story without the BIBLE!Apocalypse version wouldn't make much sense. I guess Cas could be Michael's vessel and Anna could be Lucifer's? (Or the other way around?) But I think Anna would be the one to do the demon blood thing anyway even though she's suppsed to be the Dean of this verse. I mean... maybe Cas would do it... but I doubt it. Mm, Cas as a human would totally be similar to the Cas from the future. I mean, maybe without the complete and utter hopelessness but with the drugs and the alcohol? I think he'd dabble. Damn, I am so interested now.
And meme... well shit.
Even after years of hunting them, Scully still has the nagging feeling that there has to be some rational explanation for the monsters in the dark.
And don't suppose you'd give me a first line of something too? I'm bored and am probably gonna snag this for my own journal. ....Out of your list I could probably only do Supernatural, Fight Club, or X-Files but mostly just Supernatural.
Hm. I wish to hear more of this verse.
no subject
I dunno if Anna would summon a demon either. The angel family is not as co-dependent as the Winchesters. Anna is a little more self-interested, and Cas is more hung up on his dad than he is on his sister.
I don't see Dean and Sam as higher-order angels either. Maybe they were in the same garrison XD. I think the idea of Sam of falling to earth and Dean looking for him could be a self-contained AU fic in of itself. I have noooo idea if I would use the Michael/Lucifer plotline. I think once I figure out why Cas and Anna's dad is in hell, the plot would work itself around that. I have no idea if 5x04 would work into this hypothetical plot, but the idea of Cas getting zapped into the future and seeing broken!angel!Dean is like fkdlsjfklds. How would Dean be broken? I am tempted to make him as big a hedonist as Canon Croatverse Cas, but it would be nice symmetry for Croatverse Angel Dean to become a complete recluse who only resurfaces from his drunken stupor to kill things and be an ass at everyone. omg what is Croatverse Angel Dean is Canon Croatverse Dean, just not in a leadership position? I just wanna see Dean and Cas interact, I don't even know if I wanna use the vessel plotline.
Anna is not supposed to be the Dean of this 'verse. She is a Sam who happens to be the older sibling. I'm not sure about Anna and the demon blood. I don't know if she'd get that desperate.
I will reply with the fic in another comment! And here is your line:
Mulder almost asks, "What the hell kind of name is Castiel?" but then again, it's not like he can claim to have the most normal name of them all, either.

I wrote this last night, it's your fault.
“You don’t trust anybody.”
“He’s an angel…what part of this are you failing to understand?” Castiel dropped the shells on the bed and let them bounce as he unloaded his shotgun.
Anna rolled her eyes as she sprawled out on the other bed, avoiding the ritual of cleaning their weapons. The hunt had been a bust, so it was not as if they had actually shot any rounds or bloodied a single knife. Castiel took comfort in the familiar, though, and did not understand why Anna always put off doing the necessary work. Although he supposed procrastination and junk food was her own brand of familiar as he sighed and laid out the cleaning kit.
“He doesn’t act like an angel.”
“Because, of course, we have so much to compare him too.”
“You know what I mean.”
“I do not.”
“You do.”
“Leave me alone.” It sounded childish; it felt childish, and some things never changed.
Eventually Anna got bored and cleaned her 9mm, then stomped into the bathroom, purposefully kicking Castiel’s duffle bag on the floor as she walked by like she always did. Castiel enjoyed the rare solitude until he heard the now-familiar flutter of wind.
“I get the feeling you don’t trust me.”
Castiel shifted on the bed to face the newly-arrived angel. “I don’t.”
“I’m an angel. Of the Lord. I showed you my wings, right?”
“Yes, with an ACDC soundtrack.” Castiel snorted and went back to putting the gun together again.
“You have no appreciation for what you’ve been given, Cas.”
“It’s Castiel, it’s my name.”
“Right. After the angel of Thursday. You know, he doesn’t look anything like you.”
“He…I…why are you here?”
“I thought I’d peek in on Anna in the shower.” The angel shifted towards the bathroom door. Castiel stood up and pushed into the angel’s chest, although he didn’t move a muscle except to smirk at him. “Hey! Hey there, buddy…personal space.”
“You stay away from her.”
“Like you do?”
Castiel’s fist impacted with solid granite, or at least it felt that way. He bit his lip in pain, cradling his damaged hand.
“Nice try, but this face? Too pretty to wreck.” The angel continued smirking and leaned against the small table that was about the only furniture in the room, aside from the beds.
“You choose that meatsuit because he’s good looking?” Castiel asked through clenched teeth.
“Oh yeahhhh.”
Castiel turned his back on him and tried to shake out his hand without crying in pain. “You are a very fucked up angel.”
“Dean.”
Castiel ignored him.
“That’s his name. Dean. But I’ll answer to it.”
Castiel sat down on the bed and packed up his weapons bag one handed, ignoring the sharp spikes of pain that told him he had seriously hurt himself. It was all he could do to stay on task.
“Let me see your hand.”
The angel was next to him, standing over him, his expression dark and cold, his green eyes glittering in the low light from the table lamp next to them. Castiel tried to stare him down, but the angel did not need to blink. He moved slowly, telegraphing his moves as he picked up Castiel’s injured hand, but it didn’t matter – Castiel could not have broken out of his grasp with a wench and a crowbar.
Castiel closed his eyes to the pain as the angel unfolded his hand. He figured he had broken at least one finger in trying to break the angel’s jaw, a lesson he would not have to learn twice. He felt light feathery touches as the angel smoothed out his fingers, and the pain dipped away from his consciousness. He shivered from the warmth of the touch, and light seared into his eyes despite the fact they were still closed.
“I won’t hurt you. I’m not here to hurt you.” The angel’s words floated around him, there but not, as if they were pressed into his brain instead of spoken.
“Don’t…don’t mess with me.” Castiel forced his eyes open, looking straight up at the angel who was gently massaging his hand and staring right back. There was so much there, pain and righteousness and love and grief, that Castiel had to look away.
The door opened to the bathroom and Anna stepped out, readied for bed in her sweats, her hair hanging wet and straight and her eyes narrowed suspiciously. “So you two made up?”
The angel smiled at her but continued rubbing Castiel’s hand. “Just waiting for you.”

Re: I wrote this last night, it's your fault.
I adore the concept of fallen!Sam and angel!Dean looking everywhere for him; there is a power to that dynamic that really mirrors the canon show we know and love - Sam doing anything it took to get his freedom, including hurt the ones he loves; and Dean never, absolutely never, giving up. Well until 5.16. hahaha.
I wish my muse was more on track and I could write better than this drivel right now, I really rock on these ideas. So I guess you'll just have to write them instead, okay? OKAY! :)

2) Dean as an angel cracks me the fuck up! Cas as a hunter!! WHAT IS SAM EXACTLY, WHERE'S HE, OMG WHAT ABOUT 5.04. Would Anna be Dean, then? I think she'd be a better Future Dean than Dean is. But Cas, I can't imagine him giving in like that - so I would switch them, yes. Sam is the Anna, I'm sure of that. Because after the innocent beginning Sam starts being the one who takes the ruthless risks, and I think Ana is more with that than Cas on the straight and narrow and Dean trying to be moral. BUT I DUNNO I just know that 5.04 would be fucking crazy. Can you imagine hedonism Future!de-Angel'd!Dean? I mean, we already have hedonism Dean, but Dean who resorts to hedonism in despair? The sharpness of his sarcasm would scar.
Gaga and Beyonce as hunters would ACTUALLY make me want to watch that video again. I dunno, it makes me uncomfortable. Not the killing. The jail part.
3. Dean used to claim he was allergic to the grass in lawns whenever Sam asked why they weren't a normal family.

I've been hashing this out with hiza_chan up there, and I totes agree that Anna is Sam. Cas is so Dean, and not just 'cos I need to address in fic the weird parallels between them. I think Croatverse Unangel Dean would be similar to Canon Croatverse Dean, except not in a leadership position, so he doesn't have the excuse of trying to save everyone to excuse his being a massive ass. He is just this merciless violent person devoid of compassion and hope, empty and resigned, because that is the opposite of who Dean really is at the core. Because croatverse robs everyone of their core, turns them upside down. Dean's just scary now, and indulgence in hedonism is him just blatantly using people. I wonder what future Cas would be like in this AU! Or if he's even necessary... I'm changing so much of the plot that I'm not sure why Cas would be sent to the future anyway at this point, but god, that should be figured out. CROATPOCALYPSE FOR EVERYONE!
lol I would read about Gaga and Beyonce saving people hunting things IN A HEARTBEAT.

You are going to write that, aren't you? At least snippets? AT LEAST SOMETHING?! Because I don't think I can live without that in my life.
