everything's coming up fic-for-las

IT HAS BEEN A HELL OF WEEK. My favorite part was wandering around some caves in Tennessee and Virginia. Hey, remember the time Dean and some creature were hunting each other in the maze of caverns under Lookout Mountain? Or the time Castiel stood on the edge of the Lost Sea (a.k.a. America's largest underground lake) and thought he felt the amulet warm? CAAAAAVES <333, now probably my second favorite, after deserts. Jungles and oceans still have to duke it out for third.

Last week was also my birthday, and omg you guys. Life blessed me with [personal profile] be_themoon writing me us with our pilgrim hearts which is about TEAM FREE WILL: THE NEXT GENERATION. Claire, Ben, and Jesse saving people, hunting things!! I already OT3 them kinda hard, ngl. And then! More blessings in the form of [livejournal.com profile] roque_clasique writing Restore, which is about CLAIRE AND CAS <3. CLAIREFEST FOR MY BIRTHDAY yaaaaayyyyyy \o/ so read these wonderful fics, is what I'm saying.

Read also the following wonderful fic! Remix Redux 8 went live today, and some brilliant anonymoose took my words!Castiel fic, unnamed, and shook it until plot improbably fell out: Drink Up, Dreamers (The Jaded Underworld Remix). Its tags are 'case fic', 'mythology', and 'meta'. ARE YOU TURNED ON YET?

Speaking of joy, why not hop over to the SPN angel commentfic meme?

And now for Important Questions Time.
[livejournal.com profile] 22by7 and I think Ben, Claire, and Jesse could be played by Ben, Claire, and Jesse.

...Mackenzie, Danes, and Bradford, that is. Yep. HOWEVER. I am also partial to:

Tobey Maguire as Jesse

Zach Gilford as Ben

Taylor Kitsch as... uh. Where was I?

Scarlett Johansson as Claire

OKAY YOUR TURN

Wyrm, Wyrm, here is the deal. Everyone (EVERYONE, even the extras) on this show has daddy issues, and has superstrong feelings about their family, whether positive or negative. This will be expounded upon unto theological levels in seasons 4 and 5. Or maybe they bring the theological down to a familial level? Seasons 4 and 5 are my favorites because the apocalypse and the wayward angels are what sucked me into the show. Seasons 1 through 3 are more monster-hunting and familial codependency. I confess, I got a little impatient and just wanted to get to season 4 already.

The overarching question of each season are as follows:
S1: Where is Dad?
S2: Is Sam a monster?
S3: How do we stop Dean from being cast into Hell?
S4: How do we stop Lucifer from rising?
S5: How do we stop the apocalypse?

For you, I recommend you skip around. I did. Betsy has an SPN primer (http://be-themoon.livejournal.com/71316.html) that I used as my road map to SPN-watching. I've formulated my own opinions since then as to what is relevant, but Betsy does a good job laying foundations here. I would add that "The Kids Are Alright" in season 3 is also important, because it comes back in late season 5. She made the primer before that particular episode came out, so I'm sure she would've included it otherwise. And now I'm kinda tempted to make an episodes post of my own.

alskdj I think I will do this then! In two weeks when I am finally home and HAVE THE DAMN INTERNETS.

Apparently it is not uncommon for people to just start watching at season 4. (This is Castiel's fault.) One of my favorite SPN writers, unoshot, started out just watching only video excerpts that have Cas in them, and look how she turned out! :D

apparently all your conversation threads are belong to me, sorry

(but then Sam comes off as pretty unsympathetic, doesn't he? as a whole in season 4 :( )

Hmm, maybe. It is true that more S3 episodes would better illustrate Sam's increasing tendencies towards rash and stubborn decision-making, what with the Dean-related desperation and guilt.

ooh yes that's it exactly. unfortunately season 3 is short. and, ugh, Bela's in it. I avoid those eps.

Bela was cool and had a lot of potential, I just get the impression the show didn't know what to do with her? I feel like she should have had more screen-time to really flesh out her character, but the fans hated her so much that no. So she becomes a caricature. But then again, what character on the show ISN'T a caricature anyway.

I wonder how she knew about the supernatural. (IS SHE A WITCH, DID SHE GO TO HOGWARTS.) Obviously not all people who know about the supernatural are hunters, and she is a peek into that world that I'd like to know more about. If hunters are more militaristic in approach, Bela is business and commerce. The show gives me the impression of drawing a distinct line between People Who Know and People Who Don't, but surely the line can't be so clear!

the show didn't know what to do with her?
Sounds about right. Right, where did she learn about the supernatural! What is that line of people who know and don't? Remember Antichrist mommy? not the perfect example but yeah. And what about witches, there's got to be a whole spectrum to what they do or don't know. And didn't she have a dead parents story and her whole hellhound deal? They should've examined that! I just thought of her of a Bond girl, you know, the villain-mercenary type. The Britishness didn't help that impression.
