everything's coming up fic-for-las

IT HAS BEEN A HELL OF WEEK. My favorite part was wandering around some caves in Tennessee and Virginia. Hey, remember the time Dean and some creature were hunting each other in the maze of caverns under Lookout Mountain? Or the time Castiel stood on the edge of the Lost Sea (a.k.a. America's largest underground lake) and thought he felt the amulet warm? CAAAAAVES <333, now probably my second favorite, after deserts. Jungles and oceans still have to duke it out for third.

Last week was also my birthday, and omg you guys. Life blessed me with [personal profile] be_themoon writing me us with our pilgrim hearts which is about TEAM FREE WILL: THE NEXT GENERATION. Claire, Ben, and Jesse saving people, hunting things!! I already OT3 them kinda hard, ngl. And then! More blessings in the form of [livejournal.com profile] roque_clasique writing Restore, which is about CLAIRE AND CAS <3. CLAIREFEST FOR MY BIRTHDAY yaaaaayyyyyy \o/ so read these wonderful fics, is what I'm saying.

Read also the following wonderful fic! Remix Redux 8 went live today, and some brilliant anonymoose took my words!Castiel fic, unnamed, and shook it until plot improbably fell out: Drink Up, Dreamers (The Jaded Underworld Remix). Its tags are 'case fic', 'mythology', and 'meta'. ARE YOU TURNED ON YET?

Speaking of joy, why not hop over to the SPN angel commentfic meme?

And now for Important Questions Time.
[livejournal.com profile] 22by7 and I think Ben, Claire, and Jesse could be played by Ben, Claire, and Jesse.

...Mackenzie, Danes, and Bradford, that is. Yep. HOWEVER. I am also partial to:

Tobey Maguire as Jesse

Zach Gilford as Ben

Taylor Kitsch as... uh. Where was I?

Scarlett Johansson as Claire

OKAY YOUR TURN

WHY HELLO THERE.

TFW: TNG makes my heart go all a-flutter. I have not much to suggest, except perhaps this young man who doesn't actually look much like Ben, but who I really need a socially acceptable way to perv on, so. For your consideration: Hunter Parrish.

Hey there, bright young thang! IMDB tells me I know nothing he is in. However he appears to express as much curiosity in me as I do in him!

[identity profile] be-themoon.livejournal.com 2010-05-24 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, I like Scarlett Johansson for Claire a lot, and your casting for Ben is spot-on too. I, however, would be very much a fan of Ian Somerhalder as Jesse:

Image

He could play sarcastic, easily bored and extremely powerful very very well, I think, and he's got the good looks that I require, being shallow. (Though heeeeyyy, Jesse Bradford and Toby Maguire are quite the lookers - what have they been in? why do I not know them?)

TEAM FREE WILL V 2.0 IS WONDERFUL.

[identity profile] be-themoon.livejournal.com 2010-05-24 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
(ALSO because I suck at memory sometimes OMG YAY YOU ARE BAAACK. <3333 I'm glad you had a good vacation, too - Tennessee and Virginia are GORGEOUS and I love them.)

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-05-24 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I was considering Ian as Jesse! He def can do snark well, and yes he fills up the pretty minimum QUITE WELL. Jesse Bradford has been in crappy teen movies, like Bring It On, and he was also in... Jumpers? Tobey Maguire is Spiderman! And in Cider House Rules. I think the Wonder Boys? Snow Falling on Cedars.

<3333 Tennessee and Virginia hold so much natural beauty, wow. I was also thinking "hey why does Rock City sound familiar OMG IT IS FROM AMERICAN GODS". I was kind of awestruck as we drove down the highway, all the open space, the greenery. Pull up to the shoulder and roll over into the woods. A pasture, some horses, some sheep, some cows. I wonder what life is like for a kid who has horses and sheep and cows. Shops where they sell symbols of the confederate flag, billboards that sing the praises of waiting until marriage. Highways that become main streets and, before you know it, become highways again. CAVES. Hootenannies held in them during prohibition, how you can drink much more and not get drunk down there, but the higher the altitude, the drunker you'll feel, and some people couldn't even make it back up to the mouth of the cave, they were so drunk. A sea of stalagmites that isn't, because it's just a sea, currentless and still so that the stalactites are perfectly reflected. Rock formations called angel wings and dragon's foot, and one in particular named Pluto's Ghost. Waterfalls. Civil war soldiers writing their names on rock walls, those goshdarn kids. TJ Hardy, 1863. Caves caves caves! I am enthralled.

[identity profile] zempasuchil.livejournal.com 2010-05-24 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
NO SCARJO YES CLAIRE DANES
CLAIRE DANES 100%. god I have such a crush on her XD also ScarJo stands around with her mouth half-open a lot. I dunno, my friend is prejudiced, it's rubbed off on me.
really I think I like your first three picks best! they are all ridick pretty and I am totally getting Ben the nice kid (also damn what is it about his hair that I love so much) and Jesse the powerful kinda-arrogant-but-not-bad kid. though Ian Somerhalder also looks like a good Jesse choice.
WELCOME BAAAAACK <3

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-05-24 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha what do you have against Scarjo? LOL SCARJO, I approve of this nickname. Ya Ben McKenzie has been typecast as a good boy, I think. Troubled and stoic, but well-meaning. I like him physically for Ben, but I think I want Ben a little more explosive?

I AM SLOWLY BEING SWAYED BY IAN!JESSE.

[identity profile] zempasuchil.livejournal.com 2010-05-25 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing substantial, my friend just is so bugged by her and it's sorta rubbed off? She kinda looks funny to me now. But in a contest with Claire Danes Claire would ALWAYS win.
Wasn't his OC character kind of explosive? maybe? am I wrong? tbh only saw one ep of that show ever, uhhh.

[identity profile] sportsmed14.livejournal.com 2010-05-26 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Ben's character on The OC (Ryan) was explosive in my opinion-- at least if by explosive, you mean punching lots of people and not scared to die. There were scenes where Ben McKenzie's acting got very intense (like the end of The Anger Management episode). It was great. :)

[identity profile] deedlit50.livejournal.com 2010-05-24 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for the fic recs! I can never get enough next generation Supernatuaral and OMG Drink up, Dreamers was beautiful.

I quite like your casting choices. Zack Gilford has the perfect face for a grown up Ben- but I'm not sure about his acting. I've only seen him in The Last Winter, and that wasn't a huge role. Has he been in something that you really love? Hrmm, I guess I should run a imdb.com search on him.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-05-24 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
You aaaare welcome! Drink Up, Dreamers is indeed gorgeous! You should comment and tell 'em that XD. I can't wait until reveals to see what else they've written. Zach Gilford has a lead role in 'Friday Night Lights', which I enjoy when I remember to watch it. His character has a hard home life and a lot of duties, but he is for the most part a humble dude who has a heart of gold.

[identity profile] deedlit50.livejournal.com 2010-05-25 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)

THIS SAVANNA, MOST COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS "EL JAY", CONTAINS THE DENSEST POPULATION OF FANGIRLS IN THE WORLD. THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR BOTH GREAT COLLABORATION AND FIERCE IN FIGHTING.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-05-24 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
THE FIERCEST OF THE FIGHTING IS REFERRED TO BY MANY FANGIRLOLOGISTS AS A SHIP WAR. IT USUALLY BEGINS WITH AN UNFAVORABLE OPINION ABOUT SAM AND/OR ANGELS, AND ENDS IN REINFORCED CRONYISM.

THE FANGIRL CAUTIOUSLY APPROACHES THE CAMERA, DRAWN IN BY LIGHT REFLECTING FROM THE LENS.

SEE HER JAW WORK AS SHE CHEWS THE THING CALLED CANON INTO A MUSHY CUD. CANON, ESPECIALLY OF THE STRAIN SUBTEXTIAE HOMOSEXUALUS, IS COMMONLY USED AS FANGIRL BAIT, BUT THE FANGIRL IS A RESOURCEFUL CREATURE. TYPICALLY SHE WOULD SNATCH THE CANON FROM ITS TRAP AND RUN FAR AND FAST WITH IT INTO THE NIGHT, HER SQUEES ECHOING ACROSS THE PLAINS.

[identity profile] zempasuchil.livejournal.com 2010-05-26 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
SHE FORTIFIES HER DEN WITH THE NOW-MANGLED AND CURLS PROTECTIVELY AROUND HER INCHOATE BROOD. SUMMER IS A HAVEN FROM ENCROACHING WRITERS PREYING ON HER PRECIOUS YOUNG, BUT FALL WILL BRING COLDER WEATHER AND WITH IT, THE IMMINENT RISK OF BEING JOSSED.

AND WHAT IS THIS, LURKING IN THE LONG GRASS? IT IS KRIPKE, HER NATURAL ENEMY. THEIR RELATIONSHIP HAS BEEN DESCRIBED AS AN UNEASY SYMBIOSIS. A MORE ACCURATE DESCRIPTION WOULD BE 'MUTUAL PARASITISM'.

This is actually [livejournal.com profile] puckling's, communicated to me via chat, but I'm gonna post it here for completeness's sake since she can't access LJ from her work:

IT HAS BEEN POSITED THAT SINCE FANGIRLS PRIMARILY ENGAGE IN ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION, KNOWN AS "PIMPING" AND OFTEN ACCOMPANIED BY CRIES OF "ONE OF US, ONE OF US". THIS CANON SOME HOW ASSISTS HER IN PRODUCING MORE FANGIRLS.
THE MALE OF THE SPECIES IS EXTREMELY RARE, AND SOME RESEARCHERS BELIEVE IT IS MYTHICAL, THOUGH OTHERS POINT OUT THAT ON THE INTERNET NO ONE KNOWS IF YOU'RE A DOG, SO NO DEFINITIVE STATEMENTS CAN BE MADE AT THIS TIME

<333 HOW COULD I NOT

And this is only the Supernatural episode! We could do a Merlin episode, a Narnia episode, a Harry Potter episode... Actually the Harry Potter one would have to be a two-part special.

[identity profile] zempasuchil.livejournal.com 2010-06-05 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
The Harry Potter one is like the evolutionary root of all the others. Like the mouse, or the drosophila fruit fly, it is not that awesome to most of us anymore but contains the building blocks for all the species!

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-06-05 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
LOL YES LOL YES YES YES LOL LOL. Does that mean the Star Trek episode is gonna be a dinosaur show??

[identity profile] zempasuchil.livejournal.com 2010-06-05 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
DINOSAURS YES PLEASE

ideally everything should be a dinosaur show at some point

I mean if Merlin was made into dinosaurs, what can't be?? XD it was sooooo great.

CAVES! <33 omg they'll never quite take the place of oceans in my heart but: JEALOUS.

&&&&&& SCARLETT JOHANSSON CLAIRE. WHO DO I HAVE TO SLEEP WITH TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN?

Taylor Kitsch can be one of those kids they saved from the shtriga thing who grew up and became a hunter with his brother, and they have this kind of rivalry with Team Free Will 2.0. And by 'rivalry' I do, of course, mean 'sexual tension'.

A++ IDEA. Michael! He can be Michael, and now I need a random hot dude to play Asher. "We got here first, dude!" "No way, find your own spirit to exorcise!"

omg are there any other kids we are missing that can be incorporated into SPN:TNG? Maybe that girl from Playthings. Maybe the one from The Benders!

THAT'S IT I AM WATCHING SUPERNATURAL WHEN I GET HOME. Where do I start????

[identity profile] l-a-r-m.livejournal.com 2010-05-26 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
You've never seen it before?! WATCH WATCH PLEEEEASE!!

Not only it is pure awesome, but I'm kind of SUPER REALLY EXCITED for what sort of fic it may inspire from you. But you know, like, no pressure. Come share in the looooove!

[identity profile] animus-wyrmis.livejournal.com 2010-05-26 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know anything about it except what Lass has let slip via fic/fic recs. Apparently there are brothers who may or may not be sleeping together who fight evil or demons or something, with the help of an angel who may or may not still be a proper angel? And there is an apocolypse!

Yeah, idk, but I am sensing crossovers with Pullman. "He's looking for God," Dean explains. "Yeah," Will says. "About that."

Do I start with season one or do I skip around????

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-05-26 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Wyrm, Wyrm, here is the deal. Everyone (EVERYONE, even the extras) on this show has daddy issues, and has superstrong feelings about their family, whether positive or negative. This will be expounded upon unto theological levels in seasons 4 and 5. Or maybe they bring the theological down to a familial level? Seasons 4 and 5 are my favorites because the apocalypse and the wayward angels are what sucked me into the show. Seasons 1 through 3 are more monster-hunting and familial codependency. I confess, I got a little impatient and just wanted to get to season 4 already.

The overarching question of each season are as follows:
S1: Where is Dad?
S2: Is Sam a monster?
S3: How do we stop Dean from being cast into Hell?
S4: How do we stop Lucifer from rising?
S5: How do we stop the apocalypse?

For you, I recommend you skip around. I did. Betsy has an SPN primer (http://be-themoon.livejournal.com/71316.html) that I used as my road map to SPN-watching. I've formulated my own opinions since then as to what is relevant, but Betsy does a good job laying foundations here. I would add that "The Kids Are Alright" in season 3 is also important, because it comes back in late season 5. She made the primer before that particular episode came out, so I'm sure she would've included it otherwise. And now I'm kinda tempted to make an episodes post of my own.

[identity profile] animus-wyrmis.livejournal.com 2010-05-26 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
alskdj I think I will do this then! In two weeks when I am finally home and HAVE THE DAMN INTERNETS.

DOOO IIIIIT. And then I will know where to start so as to write ridiculous crossover fics!

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently it is not uncommon for people to just start watching at season 4. (This is Castiel's fault.) One of my favorite SPN writers, unoshot, started out just watching only video excerpts that have Cas in them, and look how she turned out! :D

apparently all your conversation threads are belong to me, sorry

[identity profile] zempasuchil.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
(but then Sam comes off as pretty unsympathetic, doesn't he? as a whole in season 4 :( )

Re: apparently all your conversation threads are belong to me, sorry

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, maybe. It is true that more S3 episodes would better illustrate Sam's increasing tendencies towards rash and stubborn decision-making, what with the Dean-related desperation and guilt.

Re: apparently all your conversation threads are belong to me, sorry

[identity profile] zempasuchil.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
ooh yes that's it exactly. unfortunately season 3 is short. and, ugh, Bela's in it. I avoid those eps.

[identity profile] twoskeletons.livejournal.com 2010-06-01 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Bela was cool and had a lot of potential, I just get the impression the show didn't know what to do with her? I feel like she should have had more screen-time to really flesh out her character, but the fans hated her so much that no. So she becomes a caricature. But then again, what character on the show ISN'T a caricature anyway.

I wonder how she knew about the supernatural. (IS SHE A WITCH, DID SHE GO TO HOGWARTS.) Obviously not all people who know about the supernatural are hunters, and she is a peek into that world that I'd like to know more about. If hunters are more militaristic in approach, Bela is business and commerce. The show gives me the impression of drawing a distinct line between People Who Know and People Who Don't, but surely the line can't be so clear!

[identity profile] zempasuchil.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
the show didn't know what to do with her?
Sounds about right. Right, where did she learn about the supernatural! What is that line of people who know and don't? Remember Antichrist mommy? not the perfect example but yeah. And what about witches, there's got to be a whole spectrum to what they do or don't know. And didn't she have a dead parents story and her whole hellhound deal? They should've examined that! I just thought of her of a Bond girl, you know, the villain-mercenary type. The Britishness didn't help that impression.
