I'm usually terrible at keeping my fic masterlist current, but I went and finally updated it today. It hasn't been updated since that croatverse shotgunning fic from Five Acts. My masterlist isn't as navigable as it could be, I think. The fics aren't listed chronologically, more like the fics I like better are nearer to the top. Should masterlists include fanmixes?

The shippiness doesn't really come in until the last couple of sentences, so it's mostly this wonderful and resonant contemplation of Dean and Castiel's relationship.


And now for something completely different! Gunkanjima ('battleship island') is an island off the coast of Nagasaki. Between 1887 and 1974, it was a thriving coal mining site, but as petroleum replaced coal in Japan in the 1960s, coal mines began shutting down all over the country. Gunkanjima closed in 1974 and reopened in 2009 for tourism.

So it's a ghost town, basically. Gunkanjima kind of reminds me of Kolmanskop, except with coal instead of diamonds. It also prone to REALLY AWESOME PICTURES. These are the kinds of places where I wanted Cas to look for God/Balthazar/Sam's soul, but idk, maybe you need a more visual medium than fic though. I mean, look at these. Imagine angels playing cat-and-mouse in the ruins, or Cas just wandering around looking regretful and pained.

a) He stalked Sam in Stanford if he was in the area. (This is more fanon than personal canon though, isn't it?) Once, he went into one of the big intro classes and sat at the back staring at Sam's head, wondering when his brother's gonna speak up and answer a question.

I have not so much personal canon for Claire as a series of alternate realities, all based on how strongly and how long Cas courted her as a vessel in addition to Jimmy.

a) She can't quite bring herself to wish that her dad never came back.
b) Her canon is microcospic, so she can really go any which way.

a) You mentioned this in your reaction post, and now it is my canon. In 6x03, Castiel had his suspicions that it was angel behind this. What Aaron said was only confirmation. Only the name surprised him.
b) THERE IS NOT ENOUGH OF HIM? Also, he needs to stop letting the Winchesters bully him.
c) The abridged version is that Castiel's character is exactly the kind who is a perfect vessel for the kinds of themes I love to explore in stories.
d) Reconciliation with Balthazar. HAHAHA JUST KIDDING, I don't actually think that'll happen on my screen :(. More Cas/Meg maybe? A COSTUME CHANGE. Here is my unpopular opinion: eff that trenchcoat.

I remember reading something about Gunkanjima when I lived in Japan, and it was not open to the public. There was some controversy about ownership or about its history or something...

Yeah, it beig opened up to the public was a recent thing. In 2005, it opened up itself up only to journalists, for example. The former owners are Mitsubishi, and that's why their logo's there. I think they were the ones running the mining operations.

a) This actually began as I think anjali-organna's bit of personal canon, but now it is mine. Chin caught Kono drinking at an underage party but didn't report her. She was drunk and pissed off, so when he was pushing her out of the party hissing 'shut up' and 'this way', she just twisted out of his grip and ran away. Unrelatedly, she would look for Chin's face in the crowd in every surfing competition.
b) IDK, she's perfectly pleasant. I wish the show would introduce more complexity to her character. Let her get angry and stupid and emotional and personal.
c) She learns fast, which suits Steve though he forgets to appreciate it.
d) Going all cold-blooded berserker on people who hurt Chin. Give her a personal mission, show!
e) Danny. She thinks he's kind of ridiculous, when not being tedious.

a) He and Prunaprismia are good friends. There's some unresolved feelings between them that they will never name and never approach though, at least not in this world.
b) His loyalty and sense of propriety kept him serving crazy Miraz even when he knew it was wrong. Against his better judgment, he developed an affection for Caspian - a bad idea considering Miraz's ambition. Would he be able to protect Caspian from his uncle? Would he want to? The event lay in the distant future, and he was thankful for that.
c) Because he is a motherfucking badass Hufflepuff.
d) Becoming a respected elder in the new world, and maybe marrying Prunaprismia. You can have a happy ending, Glozelle.
e) ...Lucy? Even in adult form, she's not really his type.

a) Lucifer was intrigued by her. Other angels usually bow and move out of the way. Not Anael.
b) The fine line between hating angels and self-loathing.
c) She totally broke out of Bible camp, shut up. TOTALLY. Also, she was Castiel's gadfly, the one who got him to thinking beyond himself. She is an inspiration. And she pulled strings to get her body back without envesseling anyone. NEED I GO ON?
d) Resurrection.
e) I don't ship Anna with demons that aren't Ruby, I guess. But recently my mind has been weirdly craving some Balthazar/Anna.

a) Hmmmm, I've only just begun thinking about him so I don't have personal canon for him yet I think. It depends on when we place his fake death. Did he keep tabs on Cas's search for God? One time he was very near, watching Cas from behind a shadow, and Cas was mooning at the vastness of the canyon below. He looked weighed down; he always did. Balthazar considered, this time (for real, this time), showing himself and revealing the grand lark, but before he could do so, Castiel was gone again.
b) He's like that freshman who goes wild on freedom and tries every substance he can get his grimy little hands on, and ends up in the drunk tank and/or hospital before the semester is even over.
c) He's fun at parties and - re: Cas - he is the exboyfriendiest ever.
d) I WANT HIM TO RECONCILE WITH CAS ;_______;

Ooh, Gunkanjima! I learned about that on a show called Life After People on the History Channel, which basically showed what would happen to the world if humans just suddenly disappeared. It had CGI scenarios of cities and such, and then it would show real-life places that have been abandoned or whatever and what time and decay has done to them. Gunkanjima was one. It was eerie.
