CASFEST OR BUST
CASTIELFEST:
-- is now a fanfic AND fanart exchange. \o/
-- needs YOUR help, artists! Can you spare some time to help us out by
------1) making a Castielfest comm header graphic,
------2) tweaking the layout of the Castielfest comm, AND/OR
------3) making 500x300-pixel Castielfest banners?
Because that would be great. DO IT FOR CAS, GUYS.
I also signed up for
spnrarepairs. Sordid angel backstory and/or time-traveling incest will soon be mine! In other news, Sam's birthday commentfic party at
ohsam is still chugging along nicely. I feel like I'm missing the point of 3W4DW because I keep on turning the conversation back to LJ.
It's been memetime o'clock here for ages, huh? This one's from
smilla02, except I changed some things:
Comment with a link to an awesome song on YouTube, and I will:
1. Respond with something random about you.
2. Tell you which color you remind me of.
3. Tell you my first memory of you.
4. Tell you what animal you remind me of.
5. Ask you something I've always wondered about you.
6. Tell you who I ship you with.
7. Challenge you to post this on your journal.

5. It is home. It is home in all the best ways, and it is the only place to live, because you have to live in a place with the sea nearby (not too nearby necessarily, I don't need to be on the coast, but nearish), and hills, and forests that turn all sorts of colors in the fall, and clam chowder and snow and Awful Awfuls when you go to Rhode Island, which is kind of frequently actually. I've lived in CT my whole life, but I went to high school in NH, and I went to college in IL because I thought, you know, probably I should get out of New England for once and not go to Brown! And that was a good choice because I think you should live somewhere else for a while, but New England is where I'll wind up in the end, probably somewhere in the suburbs so I can have a dog and a yard and a garden. Because it is the only place for me! I understand New Englanders, I understand the accents and the weird words and the Cape is THE BEST. I would be too afraid to live somewhere with wildfires and earthquakes and tornadoes, but nor'easters and bears are fine. (Although I am not a Sox fan! Yankees all the way!)
In conclusion: when I picture myself walking home, no matter where I am in the world, the road leads through the hills and the trees of New England.
6. YES THAT IS THE BEST OT3. I feel there should be comment rpf in our future again! Crossovers with different fandoms! (And Psych starts up in July, we should both watch.)

You make me nostalgic for New Englaaaaand, even if I've only spent four years there. But it has wormed its way into my heart, and I've a number of friends and favorite memories there. THE CAPE IS SUCH THE BEST, YES ABSOLUTELY <33

OMFG YES. The three of us road tripping across the US, talking meta as we go! HAVING ADVENTURES. "Guys," I say, "guys, is that a...lamppost?"

Zee is already out of the car and investigating.
"Did you ever read the Phantom Tollbooth?" Wyrm asks as they approach the thing, Zee crouched beside it. "You know that part where Milo's just driving and driving without really paying any attention, he ends up in the Doldrums?"
And Lass, still half asleep and lighting her first cigarette of the day says, "I love that book."
Zee says, "Guys."
Lass says, "Are you saying you drove us into Narnia?"
Zee says, "Guys, look at this."

There are symbols scratched into the lamppost, and Zee is tracing them with one finger. "What do they say?" Lass asks sleepily.
"I'm not sure," Zee admits. "I think that one looks like an N, and that one looks like a sword, and that one looks like an apple. But I can't tell what they mean."
"Maybe it's in Ancient Greek," Wyrm says hopefully.
"I dunno," Lass says. "Did they have Ancient Greek in Narnia?"

"It's not entirely unlikely to find a lamppost by the side of the road," Zee says.
Lass snorts. "Are you serious? Look at this thing. It's a black iron gas lamp."
Wyrm grins and examines the letters for signs of being ancient greek.
"So what do we do? Follow the road? Go into the woods?"
Lass points to one of those little brown trail signs near the ground with a stick person riding a bicycle on it. "There's that."
Zee peers down the trail into the woods, explorer-like. "Is someone coming?" They hear a clack and squeak of pedals and wheels!

In the trunk of the car, they have: their duffels, their books, other people's books (one of which they're still trying to figure out how to open), a rain stick, a sword with half a blade, a pouch containing a black stone a white stone and a pearl, two Berettas, and a Glock. Various debris that paints the picture of their itinery, such as a souvenir mug from Intercourse, Pennsylvania, and a magnet from the Grand Canyon ("But what will you use the magnet for?" "You never know when you'll need magnets.").
The dashboard compartment is where the maps live, and it's the usual suspects, road maps and city maps and state maps, but there's also a map of Faerie that Wyrm won after riddling with Robin Goodfellow.
In the backseat, aside from everyone's coats and sweaters, are a couple of plastic bags full of vending machine and 7-11 booty. Also Lass's book that she reads when the car is quiet. This Earth of Mankind by Pramoedya Ananta Toer, and her bookmark is photobooth pictures from that time they were trying to find Vishnu in Coney Island and Zee pulled them all into the photobooth with such vehement love. Photobooths aren't made for three people, so there they are holding onto each other to keep from falling out, laughing and pulling faces. In the third picture, they all wear the strained smiles of people waiting too long for the camera to take. In the fourth, it didn't look like they knew a fourth picture was forthcoming. Lass is in the middle of saying something, looking bemused, and Zee is looking at her contemplatively, and Wyrm is either fixing her hair or scratching her head.

"I think someone's coming," Lass says. "Zee's right!"
Wyrm fumbles in Zee's duffel for the binoculars ("You never know when you might need them, and guys, it has revolution on it!") and trains them on the trail. She can see something coming--it looks sort of like one of those old bicycles, one with the big wheel in front and the tiny one in back. "Guys," she says. "Take a look at this. I'm not sure that's a person..."
so i found this thread again while I was looking for something important
The backseat is the most comfortable if you want to sleep, curled up on everyone's coats, but you run the risk of being chewed on by the Hellhound puppy Lass found in a graveyard (he's teething).
"Road's too narrow for the car," Wyrm says.
"What do we desperately need to take with us?" Z asks.
"Hey!" the muffled voice comes from the backseat, under the coats. "Can I come too?"
"Betsy!" Lass says. "Are you a stowaway?!"
this IS an important thread, wyrm
"You're the sidekick," says Lass.
"omg, YOU are," says Z.
"Guys," says Wyrm. And then she looks at Betsy, who is climbing out from under coats and food wrappers. "I was wondering when you were going to show up."
Betsy smiles. "Timing's everything."

It's strange and refreshing to be out on foot again. Lass keeps looking over her shoulder at the car. The heat of the day eventually tamps down on the chatter, and their clustering thins out to a line: Wyrm up front, then Betsy, then Z, then Lass. On they go, watching the sweat trickle down the backs of necks, making shirts stick to backs, feeling their shoulders burn. Twilight is a relief. The dusk siphons away the heat of day, and when Lass calls for a break, they sit under a willow tree with their tea and their bread, and Z points out the stars to Betsy and explains how even the constellations are changing now, how they are all running out of time. Two extra stars in the Pleiades, three missing stars from Pegasus, like the heavens themselves are running out of self.
Re: this IS an important thread, wyrm
"Prophecies," Wyrm sniffs. She doesn't have much faith in divination (besides, people who keep their tea leaves in the bottoms of their teacups are brewing an improper cup of tea, and that is a crime against nature).
Betsy flops in front of the fire with her head on Lass's bag. "Going to be hard to travel by star if this keeps happening," she says.
"Oh!" Z calls. "Shooting star, guys!" It's the one from the middle of Orion's Belt.
