and there's also remix deadline to think about

A few years ago, someone made a Supernatural fanart that I think was also a Boondocks fusion, wherein an aged-up Huey and Riley Freeman were hunters. I hear that the comments contain interesting discussion about how life would be different for Sam and Dean if they were black. I have tried looking EVERYWHERE for this, but alas, I cannot find this fanart. Do any of you have a link? ETA: Found! Thanks, [personal profile] nextian. No discussion in the comments though :( . I guess that happened in the referring post itself, wherever that is.

Hey, SPN 5x21.

I googled 'delacroix shrimping' and this is what came up:

So that's where Mr. Comatose banished himself to, I guess. I have this image of the shrimpers pulling in their nets for the day, and WTF there's this guy in there with his limbs sticking out of the mounds of shrimp and fish. Holy shitcakes! Which brings me to my next point: has Cas washed his clothes since then? Probably not, in which case I pity whoever had to sit next to him on the bus. But if he did, then what was he wearing while his clothes were being washed?

How did he get money for bus tickets? Have the Winchesters taught him how to grift yet? How did he pay for hospitalization? Is Jimmy's health insurance still working, for some reason? Cas's last insurance provider was Heaven, and that didn't work out so well. As Dean Smith once said, "You don't want to fight ghosts without health insurance." That goes double for averting the apocalypse. I'm inclined to think Cas just walked out of the hospital without paying because a) he doesn't know any better, and b) he's got shit to do, yo.

My account doesn't have polling capabilities, so lemme just ask it straight. Whose care was Cas under in the hospital? Was it

or

?

I imagine Castiel trying to buy a bus ticket would be similar to Castiel buying a cellphone, except worse because he can't mojo the clerk into complacence. Newly human Cas, what adventures did you have between Delacroix, Louisiana and Davenport, Iowa? Who did you meet and what did you talk to them about? Or did you mostly keep to yourself? What food did you eat at rest stops? Did you get burgers, and did they remind you of Dean? What did you dream about, when you slept?

Why were Sam and Bobby so surprised when Cas revealed that Michael's gonna ride Adam? Didn't we learn this in the 100th episode? And another thing, so, demon blood's not just a placebo and it really can strengthen Sam? Uh...?

ANYWAY. I bet that between the first phone call and Cas showing up at the retirement home, the Winchesters got a lot of phone calls from Castiel stoned off his ass on pain medication. There's not really a lot to do when you're stuck in bed. When Cas is not being mystified by television, he calls Dean and vacillates between being earnest, angry, blubbery, incoherent, too coherent, accusatory, apologetic, frustrated, and resigned.

Speaking of which, this episode calls back croatverse so wonderfully, omg. I LOVE IT. Like Samifer said, "No matter what you do, you will always end up here," and they are all on the verge of ending up here! This is 5x04 in its larval stage! I kind of wanted Dean to be more freaked out by it, but I guess he's too busy ganking horsemen to navel-gaze about futures past. Fine. I guess Team Free Will'll win this time, though, so I'll just sit here and wait for the inevitable croatverse redux AUs to come out where Sam couldn't resist Lucifer after all and is now permanently Samifer. Dean continues to lose it because this future is the same but different, different enough to emphasize what's the same. This is the future he was supposed to prevent. (Dean wonders what he would tell his past self if Zachariah were to send him to this future.)

Is Jimmy finally dead? I am 97% sure he is, but Pestilence still called Cas an "occupied vessel". But now it's just occupied by Cas himself? He doesn't have the power to keep Jimmy around anymore. Or, maybe Gabby's gonna get kripked.

The second best scene was Death making Dean eat the pizza. Dean's submission was A+. That scene was fucking charged. The absolute best scene, though, was Cas losing his shit at the bus ticket vendor.

holy awlekfjasodifj i was so focused on smoking art i totally didn't look at your dean&sam are black picture. i just had a conversation the other day with a friend who was like "i don't watch SPN because it's too white" and i was like "there are totally black people except they all die" and he was like "that's what i'm saying." so i showed him this picture just now and he was like "that's racist" and I was like "is it?" and he was like, "i don't know, fangirls seem kind of aewesome" and i was like "that's what I'm saying."

i'm sittin gon the couch with a bunch of friends drinking tequila and under the guise of changing the music on itunes I am writing this comment and I just got caught-out because i put on eminem (although that was less your fault and more someone else's fault... fnadom is distracting)

okay you have been a victim of drive-by drunk-roque APOLOGIES

What I said about you being delightful still stands.

Black Winchesters could be racist if we stop at skin color, I think, but I also think it can be handled in such a way that it could be a pretty illuminating story. You can't just copypaste white Dean and Sam's story onto black Dean and Sam's story, you can't ignore the race story. The racist truck story would be way different, for one XD, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Like the thefourthvine's quote says up there, here we got a couple of black felons rolling through small-town Americana with weapons in the trunk, and what racist sentiments lurk deep (or not so deep) in America, y'know? What would they not be able to get away with? What situations do they avoid just because they would be more conspicuous there?

A few weeks ago I was nursing a similar AU idea wherein the Winchesters are first-generation Indonesian immigrants to the US (http://lassiterfics.livejournal.com/140846.html) (how's that for self-indulgent), and THAT is even crazier as far as adjusting the narrative goes. I still kinda want to drabble it out, in bits and pieces.

Here's who I envision for Indonesian Dean a.k.a. Dimas:

That *is* crazy to consider, and would be completely fascinating. It would also be reaaaaally interesting to see readers' reactions... I imagine it would spark some interesting dialogue.

As for Dimas: *drools* I BUY IT. I would read the shit outta your AU, and again, I think it'd be cool to see what people have to say.

Who's Indonesian Sam, I have to know.
