1. Is 2010 like the year of the earthquake? There was another one in western China's Qinghai province this morning, seven on the richter and so far at least 600 dead. The Huffington Post has links to how you can help. Fandom, are we gonna have ourselves a help_china?
2. How about the AU where Cas and Anna are hunters together, and the Winchesters are angels. Uriel is the Bobby. What the hell would their last names be? The emotional/plot notes can't be the same as SPN. Anna is the older sister who wants out of this life, running away not to go to college, but to a simple life working some simple job. Younger bro Cas tracks her down when... something happens. Or maybe it's something else that compels her to go back to the life, because Anna in canon is never forced into anything. Canonically, she chose to fall, then she chose to be an angel again. So maybe something happens to Cas, and Anna is the one who pursues him. They reconnect, sort of. That is the pilot episode.
Mostly I just want to write about Cas and Anna on a road trip, patching each other up, fighting about their dad, Cas resenting Anna's aloofness, and Anna pitying his frustration. Recounting memories of their childhood and how much things have changed, but sometimes when Anna is the last one to fall asleep, she stares at the ceiling and listens to her brother's breathing in the next bed and it feels like being fourteen again, shacked up in another shitty motel room and waiting for Dad to come home. It's like that with Cas, she finds: being with her brother sometimes feels like time standing still.
I have no idea what the plot is, since Cas and Anna are emotionally so different from Dean and Sam. Anna is not so blindly self-sacrificing, and she probably has to end up pulling Cas back from a lot of stupid decisions. She always tell her little brother he has to think, man, think for yourself. "I'm not always going to be around to boss you around," Anna says, and she's smiling this crooked smile, and it feels like a little too much foreshadowing for Cas.
Mostly I want to rewrite 4.01 where Cas is all, "WHO ARE YOU," and Dean is like, "Dude, I'm the one who pulled you out of the fucking pit. Some thanks I get." Mostly I wanna rewrite 4.02 where Dean gets all in Cas's face in the end, all like, "Look, pal," etc. And omg, 4.16? 4.22? 5.04? jflksjdl.
But would this AU even naturally lead to canon S4? I don't know if Cas would summon a crossroad demon to bring Anna back from the dead. Maybe he'd do it for his dad, though. Maybe Cas goes to hell to get his dad back and Anna says DON'T DO THAT ARE YOU CRAZY, but yes, sometimes Cas is crazy, and something goes wrong and he gets stuck downstairs. Anna staunchly goes through every lore she knows trying to trick hell into giving her her brother back. Nothing works. Dean pulls Cas out of hell, but WHY? (Plus, Cas probably got all, "You should've saved my dad, not me," at Dean.)
And where does Sam come in? Maybe Sam is the Anna, and when he chose to fall, Dean spent years secretly looking for him on earth.
Aaaand that's all I got. I dunno, anyone wanna ramble it out with me in comments? Everyone should have a hunter AU. Mulder and Scully should be hunters. Gaga and Beyonce should be hunters. Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse should be hunters.

I've been hashing this out with hiza_chan up there, and I totes agree that Anna is Sam. Cas is so Dean, and not just 'cos I need to address in fic the weird parallels between them. I think Croatverse Unangel Dean would be similar to Canon Croatverse Dean, except not in a leadership position, so he doesn't have the excuse of trying to save everyone to excuse his being a massive ass. He is just this merciless violent person devoid of compassion and hope, empty and resigned, because that is the opposite of who Dean really is at the core. Because croatverse robs everyone of their core, turns them upside down. Dean's just scary now, and indulgence in hedonism is him just blatantly using people. I wonder what future Cas would be like in this AU! Or if he's even necessary... I'm changing so much of the plot that I'm not sure why Cas would be sent to the future anyway at this point, but god, that should be figured out. CROATPOCALYPSE FOR EVERYONE!
lol I would read about Gaga and Beyonce saving people hunting things IN A HEARTBEAT.

I think that's why I like the Cas/Dean dynamic, is because they're very similar for being so at odds sometimes.
I have a hard time imagining human Cas. Or at least, imagining him being a hunter. He isn't wild enough. Maybe he'd be kind of like John in weird way - quieter, more disciplined and hard on the people he loves but also they're his weakness.
CROATPOCALYPSE FOR EVERYONE!
basically my motto! It is TOO MUCH FUN. and by fun I mean "soulcrushingly interesting" I guess.

re: croatpocalypse.
1st temptation: Sam runs into demon!Bobby and opts to stab him instead of using his powers. (Turn these stones to bread, Jesus! Resisting using one's own power for the wrong ends.)
2nd temptation: Resisting abusing others' faith/trust in you, or an exersice in humbleness: if Jesus throws himself off the pinnacle to escape the tower, will angels really catch him? Not sure how exactly to Supernaturalize this. Somehow Cas-related probably, but in a world where angels win, would the angels even let Cas live after all his transgressions?
3rd temptation: Lucifer shows Sam the good things that'd happen if Sam says yes. Or maybe Michael!Dean does?
no subject
TEMPTATIOOONS this fic totally totally needs to exist, 40 days of wandering in the desert: I am for it. oh man. Picking Sam as Christ - yes yes yes! And the third temptation is already doing twisty things to my heart! It's gotta be Michael!Dean. for maximum horror and hurtiness. oh, lord.
2nd temptation... I think the problem with that one is we know the angels and demons can't let Sam and Dean die because they have to fulfill their roles. they've even threatened to not let them die. But if it was a Castiel thing...? Dean could resist abusing his trust, or the other way around. (Sam doesn't get trust I'm afraid :((( ). Maybe it's Castiel having faith in God, and they try God by doing all this risky stuff to kill Lucifer? ("Don't you have faith that God will just whisk you away onto a plane, if you're really that important, if you're really faithful?") Or maybe in a world where angels and demons lose, Cas has faith that God will know he was faithful? and what if that doesn't happen and he ends up damned or graceless and painfully mortal among men? (sorry, this is confusing and I'm confusing myself. blargh)
no subject
Maybe the second temptation is just gonna have to be quite loose here. If the bottom line is "don't tempt fate" or "don't test god", then the problem here is that Sam thinks god and fate are kind of bullshit to begin with. "Don't abuse other people's willingness to do things for you" is probably more doable. Maybe Cas and some people are gonna sacrifice themselves, but Sam says, "no way, this isn't how it's gonna go down." I can't help but think Cas should die in the first temptation, but demons can't possess angels, no? Bobby should be the second temptation if only because Sam cares more about him than he does about Cas.
no subject
OH YEAH. Like in Mystery Spot's Trickster AU where Bobby says to Sam You gotta kill someone to get Dean back, and then You gotta kill me, and there's the Choice. DEFINITELY.
no subject
OMG. WHAT IS CROATVERSE SAM LIKE??
no subject
man, now I really really want to read what other people think of Croatverse Sam. which I'm assuming they have? right?
no subject
I wonder if he'll seem as hard as Croatverse Dean. I mean, maybe Croatverse Sam will still seem a LITTLE personable, but secretly he is still ruthless, and very selfish. And, the way that Dean goes out and tortures demons, maybe Sam goes out and makes deals with demons and gets into really really dark magic to kick Michael out of Dean, or whatever. No one disturbs Sam when there's weird noises and flashes from his cabin.
And maybe Cas isn't at Chitaqua, because if Michael and the angels have taken over the earth in 2014, Cas is gonna be a wanted man. Maybe he is an itinerant fugitive who only occasionally stops by to chew out Croatverse Sam and his demonic backslide. GUERRILLA CAS.
no subject
Oh yes! Sam would make deals with demons! I hear there is a demon sympathetic to the human side in this? It would be great, maybe there is a demon equivalent to Cas hanging out there or something. In an AU where Ruby was not actually all about releasing Lucifer and really was sympathetic towards humans and into bangin' Sam, she would totally be the Croatverse Cas to Sam's Croatverse Dean.
Selfish Ruthless Sam :( sad but true. I wonder, though, if Dean actually said yes to Michael, if he consented, what would Cas have left? Just his own skin to save from the angels? Would he be like, "Yeahhh, that was my plan all along, get him to say yes, now can I join the club again?" Or would he really still be committed to the cause? I wonder about his loyalties to Sam in Sam's efforts to save Dean.
Funny thing, Chitaqua is the name of one of the houses in one of the dorms here. If only I were in it, as an Orientation aide or RA, and then I would theme the house decorations postapocalyptically... IF ONLY.
no subject
Maybe Meg can be the demon! Man, Croatverse Sam has no one who knew him before he was Croatverse Sam! Except Meg! Dean had Cas, but Sam has nooooo ooooone. MORE IMPORTANTLY: gratuitous Sam/Sam? Mmmmhmmm.
"Yeahhh, that was my plan all along, get him to say yes, now can I join the club again?"
I like the idea of Cas being a double agent! Maybe this can play into the second temptation somehow...
OMG IF I LIVED IN A DORM CALLED CHITAQUA!! There is a Camp Chautauqua in west New York, and in my croatverse fics, I pretend that's where Chitaqua is. BUT MAYBE IT IS ACTUALLY IN CHICAGOOOO XD
no subject
OOO yes meg! because she kinda got to know Sam in the beginning, and she's met Dean and John and been part of some of the drama in his life. AND OH DANG, I want me some gratuitous Sam/Sam nao. yum.
LOL so I looked up the spelling and the house name is ACTUALLY spelled like your camp in New York. Apparently whoever named it in SPN-world is not so great at spelling.
no subject
lol maybe they changed the spelling to avoid lawsuit or WHATEVER. Who knows.
Maybe Croatverse Sam is trying to get something out of present Sam for his evil magics! Like, blood or something! And sexing up present Sam is a way of distracting him. But they know each other's tells, though. Hmm.
Z, have you ever had thoughts of Castiel/Jensen, or Dean/Misha, 'cos I sure have.
no subject
Blood or something! dude maybe! Something tells me futureSam might be addicted to demon's blood? Maybe futureSam sexes up pastSam in the attempt to impart something to him that will change the past? omg what if future sam wants past sam to drink his blood GROSS ewwwww
(you know, them knowing each other's tells, that just means whatever happens is consensual, right?) (HAHA consent between past and future selves! oh so weird.)
NOW I HAVE. I think Castiel/Jensen has definitely occurred to me but I never thought of Dean/Misha, until now, and OMG Lass I think I LOVE IT. Does it exist? saflksfdljk
no subject
I have not seen it! I have seen Sam/Jensen, that was okay I guess. Then there's a Sam/Dean/Jensen/Jared thing that I have bookmarked to read, but I don't know if I will ever, because it seems like it's one of those fics where too much of the writing consists of "DAMN, XYZ is superhot, ABC can stare at that ass all day, goddamn". But I have not seen Dean/Misha :(
Dean and Misha wouldn't take each other's crap, is the thing. They'd give as good as they got, if you know what I mean, and I think you do. Maybe Misha is hitchhiking and Dean picks him up, during one of the times Dean and Sam break up, so it's just him and Misha in the car. Maybe Misha is heading for LA because he wants to be an actor, or maybe he's heading AWAY from LA because he's had enough of being an actor. Misha is into this drive; there is something solid and honest about the sparseness of the landscape rolling by outside, just like the man behind the wheel. Dean, on the other hand, can't tell if Misha's making fun of him sometimes and he doesn't quite know what to make of that.
no subject
I am not surprised you arrived at that XD so very, very not surprised. hooray!
Yeah, Meg can't be his Ruby, not in the same way at least. And yeah, if she's his Cas would she be somehow undemon'd like he was kinda unangel'd?
YES YES yes that is exactly what is going on! blooddrinking! Sam trusting himself too much? abusing his trust in himself? And even though that is not exactly the same as abusing others' trust of you it is, past Sam would be abusing everyone's trust of him to do the right thing in the temptation to trust himself - the person he most trusts because he is selfish and prideful, but also the person he knows he should least trust (considering the lilith/lucifer fiasco, seeing how he withdraws from the hunt for that episode or two at the beginning of S5). HOW MUCH do I want this Croatverse Sam AU now. SO MUCH.
one of those fics where too much of the writing consists of "DAMN, XYZ is superhot, ABC can stare at that ass all day, goddamn".
HAHAHA you have summed up perfectly the fics that bug me the most. hilariously.
SEE OBVIOUSLY DEAN/MISHA NEEDS TO BE WRITTEN. I love that dynamic, they wouldn't be speaking at weird odds sometimes like Dean and Cas, but understand each other quite well I think. I like the idea of Misha leaving LA and getting picked up on the edge of the arid almost-desert landscape southeast of LA, in a crowd of crazy windmills, premonitions of heat waves in the 8 am sun but it's not quite hot yet. Picked up by this guy with kind of absurd taste in music, almost too-normal in his quintessential Americanness, like Misha's still on a movie set and someone will yell cut but it never happens and everything is too quiet to be fake. He's absurdly relieved.
YEAH Dean totally would be like that. And then after they got over the few moments of prickly perfunctory politeness they would get on with not taking each other's crap. I love it.
no subject
Dunno why Meg would be undemoned, though. She's probably Sam's 'assistant' or whatever and occasional fuck buddy. omg, the scene where Sam argues with Sam over the right thing to do is gonna be a trip. Sam can kind of see where he's coming from though. I mean, duh. He recognizes himself; this is him after Dean died: single-minded and drowning in magical arcana, both half-crazed but buckled down. Ooh, talking about the magic Croatverse Sam uses is gonna be fun too.
"One hundred and fourteen," says his future self.
"What?"
"That's how many times I've watched Dean die."
lol those fics. It's like WE GET IT, he has pretty eyes and nice cheekbones, okay, I'm here to read a story not to read descriptions of publicity shots!
No one yells cut! Misha drowsing in the passenger seat. Misha asking "hey can I smoke in here?" and Dean says no. When they make a diner stop, Misha actually orders the salad. Who the hell orders salads at a diner? Not even Sam. "This is terrible," Misha scowls around a mouthful of lettuce, and Dean makes a face that says 'I told you so'. Back in the car, Dean asks "so where you from" because it's easier to let hitchhikers talk than to talk to them yourselves, and Misha says, "Everywhere." It's the same answer Misha gave when Dean asked him where he was going.
no subject
YEAH THAT'S THE THING, Sam knows what he's like after so much dead Dean, he's been there in the Tricksterverse and he's been there post hell and now he's there, except plenty more than four months later. So it's less like he's talking to a possible self but a real self, just, exaggerated - he knows how he feels. OH is that the scene where it's like, How do I know you're me? Ask me something only I would know. THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING. shit! wow.
Dude so I found that fic on your delicious and read it and there is SO MUCH "Damn that is a fine ass". Like seriously, asses, they don't get old there XD
"Where're you heading?" Misha asks.
"West Texas."
"What for?"
"Work."
"Plenty of it there?"
Dean shrugs.
"Maybe they've got a job for me there."
Dean smirks and Misha thinks, jerk. "You don't look like you're looking for work."
"Just quit my job."
"What'd you do?"
"Hollywood, you know."
And Misha suddenly really doesn't want to admit he was an actor, because this guy looks like he hates actors and other people who don't work real jobs, but when Dean asks if he's ever seen the guy who plays Dr Sexy MD Misha grins and says, "Yeah, actually, I started out as an extra on that show."
"What's he like?" Dean is not even trying to be cool about this. It's priceless.
no subject
THE THING THAT ONLY SAM KNOWS is that one time after Dean went to hell. Sam was researching some dark fucked up magic to bring his brother back, and the one he finds that MIGHT work requires him to make a couple of human sacrifices. ;-(
Does he actually make the sacrifice? I can see it going either way.
Misha slides off Dean like water. He is a collection of disjointed opinions and weird facts that flutter around Dean's head, and it gives Dean the feeling of being the amused bystander in the gasbag arthouse film that Misha seems to think his life is. "You're fucking weird, man," Dean says one time, shaking his head, and Misha just gives him a small shrug and replies, "I'm for enjoying, not for figuring out." And Dean says, "I'm not trying to figure you out."
Sometimes at diners, Misha buys Dean dessert without even asking and, well, far be it from Dean to turn down dessert. "For future reference," Dean says around a mouthful of pie, "my favorite kind is apple."
Misha says, "Hmm, yes, you would like apple pie."
Dean raises his eyebrows like 'what the hell is that supposed to mean?'
Misha asks, "What is the fastest you have ever driven your car?"
no subject
I don't think he would have made the sacrifices - when Ruby asks him to do that girl in the end of S4 he can hardly do it. Then again Mystery Spot's Trickster world when Bobby proposed it he seemed totally ready to do it. Dude, I dunno. They really ride that line about whether Sam is that desperate/ruthless. But in Croatverse so so many lines are crossed (Future Dean sends Cas and them into a trap as a diversion for him, can't even wrap my mind around that)
Misha is hilarioussss
Dean is torn between gunning it right then and there, or refusing to ever gratify Misha with the answer.
What kind of name is Misha for a dude anyway? The only Misha Dean knows of is that hot chick on the OC. This Misha is no hot chick and his taste in music is only slightly less questionable.
When he hands the Jay Paige Master Card to the waitress at the till, she smiles and flutters her lashes as he signs, and when he walks off she says, "You have a good day, Mr Paige."
Misha looks sidelong at him. "Back at the gas station you were Mr Richards."
Dean smirks. "International man of mystery."
"You're not afraid I'll turn you in."
They slide into the car. "You don't even know my real last name. Can't get me for anything with that." Dean doesn't mention the fact that he's also legally dead. Can't show all his cards - no pun intended.
"I know your license plate number."
Dean just laughs.

One thing I've always wondered: okay, if vesseling were passed on through bloodlines, does this mean Nick is related to the Winchesters somehow?

I actually think Azazel went looking for people to make deals with the moment he left the convent in 1972. (October, I think is what the article Sam found says, but I can't find it. May would make more sense to me, because Lucifer Rising very definitely happened in May, and the sense of urgency Ruby and Lilith both showed suggests the date was important, so an anniversary makes the most sense.) Criteria, one, capable of being a vessel, two, in ten years will be capable of bearing or fathering a child who will be capable of being a vessel, three, wants something Azazel can give them and isn't skeptical enough to stay clear of his too-good-to-be-true promise. Nick wouldn't have been quite old enough to be tapped. Looks like he found one every couple days, unless three in Lawrence and environs is unusually high. And I suspect he knew he'd hit the jackpot with Mary, so Sam's the youngest of his lot.
(I also suspect he was scooting the kids off to Cold Oak in age order, so Jake, Andy, and Lily were all a couple weeks older than Sam tops, and Ava five months older. So Sam would be the only one still twenty-three when he said they were all twenty-three, but the inaccuracy wouldn't ping Jake or Lily as invalidating the weirdness because their birthdays were only just past. And the reason Ash only found Sam, Andy, Scott, and Max as house fires involving six-month-olds born in 1983 is because he was only told to look for kids born in 1983, so there might be another few fires involving kids born in the back half of 1982. Also I suspect Lily is the daughter of whatshisface Whitshire. And Holly Beckett was what, eighteen when Andy and Ansem were born? So eight when she made her deal. In my head the negative-ten-year anniversary of her kids' birth marks the day a relatively wealthy man began his whirlwind courtship of Holly's mother, and Holly gave her kids up for adoption because she was not about to be a single teen mom like her mother was.)
Once Azazel decided he had enough potential parents on tap, I figure he found a hole to hide in till it was time to start ensuring every one of the parents was fruitful and multiplying on time. Then he was running all over everywhere ensuring conceptions and then running all over everywhere checking on the births and then running all over everywhere for the six-month checkups. And then I figure he started a new round of deals, just in case something happened to the winner of Survivor Cold Oak before Lucifer rose. So there's another batch of kids born between winter 1993 and winter 1994, a few of whom lost a parent to a fire at six months old, and another batch of kids born between summer 2005 and summer 2006, and how many fires did John say he'd seen, six? Seven? And that third batch would be Plan B Mark II, but mostly they'd be to tempt out John and Dean Winchester, because Azazel knew Dean knew where to find the Colt, which Azazel needed to get the Devil's Gate open to let Lilith out. He might have done another round of deals after those kids' six-month visits, except after IMToD he had the Colt, so he could focus on Sam's generation with no worries.
