'another shore (people they never loved).' various narnia crossovers.

I did the "things I'll never write" meme a few weeks ago, though it was just an excuse to request the strangest prompts people can think of, because as history shows, I'll write anything. So, I wrote Peter&Jadis near the end of the Golden Age for [livejournal.com profile] bedlamsbard (Bed, I may still actually owe you fic, since this isn't technically Peter/Jadis), and Ororo between X2 and X3 for [livejournal.com profile] dirty_diana.

Then everyone else gave Narnia crossover prompts, so I've compiled those all here in a section subtitled 'people they never loved'.

'Residue'. Narnia. Peter/Susan. R.

Tagalog word of the day!: tagahalakhak (pronounced tah-gah-hah-LUCK-HUCK), meaning hilarious!

I have these snippets lying around -- a couple of lines from overexcited meta, a few sentences of directionless porn -- that I keep around in case I might want to use them in a fic at some point. A lot of them I can't use because the contexts are really specific and vaguely cracked out, but I'm a packrat. If I get rid of a bunch of stuff, it's usually by accident.

Anywayz, these are Peter/Susan snippets from various exchanges with Bed and Z that I've smushed into one thing. Yanno, as much as I love Peter/Susan, I'm beginning to feel like I've said all I need to say about them. Maybe I need a new lens. Maybe I need to AU this shit up. I wanna read other people/s Peter/Susan.

Sea Change. Co-written with Z. Narnia. Peter, Susan, & Edmund. G.

You thought I was done with you, Narnia, but you should know that I am never done with you.

This started out as commentfic with Z, cracking out about Peter/rock symbolism in PC, and then somehow became the only fic I've written to require a bibliography. For about a month or so, we weirdly had to read the same books for homework and - in addition to Narrrrrnia - that was how we became friends. So, this fic kind of grew out of that, sort of. This fic is preceded, on my end, by this post and my paper applying Durkheimian and Weberian concepts to the Chronicles of Narnia.

No, please, tell me how to be a bigger geek, I wanna know.

With the kind of classes I have this semester though, it's more difficult to apply homework to fandom. If any of you ever figure out how to use binomial distribution and multivariate regression as metaphors for the human heart, you let me know, mmkay?

Title: Sea Change
Authors: [livejournal.com profile] lassiterfics and [livejournal.com profile] zempasuchil, Esq.
Fandom: Narnia
Rating: G
Summary: Sea change: n. A gradual transformation in which the form is retained but the substance is replaced. "Maybe when the world changes, your footholds in it do too. Maybe he's back to stumbling in a land that doesn't fit him." Peter, Susan, and Edmund from the end of the Golden Age to England, and back, and back again.

It is [livejournal.com profile] bedlamsbard's birthday, and this is for her. For you, you big crackwhore! It's a fic of a fic, specifically of her ongoing fic Dust in the Air, which is this crazy epic of fantasy worldbuilding, very disgruntled Pevensies, and (of course) 'Last Battle' revisionism.

"all the trees of the field will clap their hands." narnia, susan, g.

I started this fic some time ago partly out of a fit of "OMG NARNIA DESTROYS MY SOUL WITH ITS DESPAAAAIR D-: i must write something happy before i STAB SOMEONE". So. This is not the Aslan's Country of Where No Carnation Fades or Hereafter.

The title is from Sufjan Stevens's song of the same name, which I can't not think of as a "Susan returns to Aslan's Country" song. Hear/download it here [lyrics]. OH SUFJAN STEVENS, WITH YOUR JESUS ANGST, AND YOUR CURMUDGEONLY SONGS OF GRACE. There's a part of me that wants Susan to just move on and forget this whole stupid Aslan business, but, there's also a part of me that wants Pevensie reunion cuddles at the end of all things. Forsooth these two fates of Susan tear me asunder.

when bunnies attack

It has been a sulky sort of evening, but when I put my iTunes on random, the first song it played was "Evacuating London" and I was like :-D. My computer totally did it on purpose to make me feel better, I know it.

I have been on an icon-collecting kick lately. I'm looking forward to the release of the Prince Caspian DVD mainly for all the iconpretty people will be making. Icons 2 and 6 from this post make me want to write fic. Y'know, 'cos with #6, Edmund falters or loses his metaphorical footing, and it's not that Lucy saves him, quite, 'cos Lucy knows when to let Edmund fight his own battles. And besides, Lucy has learned by now that you can't make people believe -- in god, in themselves, in love, whatever -- but she is There, and, as Johnny Maxwell, the titular character of the EXCELLENT TRILOGY YA'LL MUST READ, says, "You can get medals just for being there."

The fic for #2 is probably set in Italy, because there is actually a city in Italy called Narnia, and [livejournal.com profile] animus_wyrmis was like, "Do you think the Pevensies were ever like, 'Hey, our country and this place in Italy have the same name!'?" Susan would be like, "It's just a name, you know," and waxes boring about how it's actually called Narni now, and it hasn't been Narnia since the Roman empire. And I don't know if all the Pevensies go or just some. According to that fount of knowledge Wikipedia, Narni is "of strikingly medieval appearance, with stone buildings, and narrow cobblestone streets," which totally enables angsting about Narnia. Like, it has the largest Roman bridge ever built, but only half of the bridge is still standing. They stand on the edge of the broken bridge and look down at the water, and it's like that scene from PC. Insert here stuff about ruins and relics and the inexorable passage of time. The town is also home to Blessed Lucy of Narni, who died after 39 years of speaking to no one but her confessor. "That doesn't sound like Lucy at all," says Edmund, and Lucy laughs as she shoves him. So anyway, there is wine-drinking, frolicking on the hillsides, and Pevencest. Pastoral idyll and being in a place that time seems to have forgetten.

INTERNET, DO YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THAT THIS IS THE ONLY DECENT JOHNNY MAXWELL FIC IN EXISTENCE.

Edit: More from Just William, from when William asks the sketchy man if he lost his ears in the war: "I bin in the wor orl right. Stroike me pink, I bin in the wor and that's the truth. But I didn't get 'em cut orf in the wor. Well, I'll stop kiddin' yer. I'll tell yer strite. I never 'ad none. Nar!"

Someone there already took the name 'lassiter', but if you go to the delicious of 'lassiter', there are actually no bookmarks bookmarked at all. What a waste! HARRUMPH.

Anyway. FOR MY FIRST TRICK, I and my lovely assistant [livejournal.com profile] bedlamsbard will go straight for the crack and write Peter Pevensie/Prince Arthur. Rated, uh, somewhere between R and NC17? I dunno. I think it's trying to develop plot, but don't worry, we've got a big stick ready in case it tries anything fancy.

Apparently I only write fic in comments now?

ALSO. My demography professor recommended to us a documentary series called Up, directed by Michael Apted. And I was like, "Michael Apted, Michael Apted... why does that sound so familiar?" Oh, could it be that he's the dude directing Voyage of the Dawn Treader? Narnia, I can't escape you if I tried.

But, see, this kind of gives me hope that Our Heroes in Dawn Treader will kick even more ass. The entire premise of the Up series is that it follows the lives of 14 people, starting from the age of 7 (7 Up, released in 1964), making a profile every 7 years until -- well, it's still ongoing. The latest installment is 49 Up was released in 2005. It's supposed to illustrate how circumstances have affected the way these people grew up. How can this project not inform Apted's feel for character continuity? I wager he'll have a feel for portraying how people grow, recover from heartbreak and triumph, and lose and find grace.

Dear Michael Apted,
Please awesomize Our Heroes from PC the way that PC awesomized Our Heroes from LWW. I BELIEVE IN YOU!

That means this afternoon I get to do whatever the hell I want.

So, this next one is from when Bedlam and I commentficced her (not-technically-)AU back and forth. It's a flashback to the Golden Age, so it works on its own. It does borrow her idea of Peter developing an immunity to Lucy's cordial.

THIS IS BEGINNING TO GET EMBARRASSING

One imagines that if Peter ever had to read Durkheim in university and came across this particular passage, he'd get lost in thought a little bit, maybe chew the end of his pen, and he'd write Edmund a ponderous letter.

"[T]he religious life and the profane life cannot coexist in the same unit of time. It is necessary to assign determined days or periods to the first, from which all profane occupations are excluded. ... There is no religion, and, consequently, no society which has not known and practiced this division of time into two distinct parts, alternating with one another according to a law varying with the peoples and the civilizations. ... Of course, it is almost impossible that the religious life should ever succeed in concentrating itself hermetically in the places and times which are thus attributed to it; it is inevitable that a little of it should filter out. There are always some sacred things outside the sanctuaries ... [b]ut these are sacred things of the second rank and rites of a lesser importance."
