And, a second viewing also lets me see that, Lucy aside, it is Peter who misses Narnia most. Not for the same reasons though, and that's really what spurred this fic.

The last time I wrote this much in a single night, it counted for academic credit and was due the next day. Save for this prologue (which takes place before Prince Caspian), the fics are missing scenes from the movie. The forthcoming numbered chapters are only there for the sake of chronology -- 'Hidden Pictures' can be read as an anthology of one-shots that stand alone.

This chapter borrows from the apparently much-beloved "Pevensie takes up fencing but it ISN'T THE SAME" trope. The chapter title is from the poem 'Do Not Accept' by the enormously talented Yehuda Amichai.

"The Kings' Council" by Romie. Peter, Edmund, G. Post-Caspian bookverse. The fic, written in Lewis's style, retains the original flavor. I'm fascinated by the writers who pull this off.
"Hang it all," said Edmund, "you can't really believe that" -- but of course, he could see that Peter did.

"Once a King" by Rynne. Post-LWW, G. More original flavor! I gorged myself on fics about the children missing Narnia, and this is one of my favorites.
She pulled back a bit and looked at him, then gathered her dignity about her, giving him a queenly smile. "I do hope so," she replied. "Talking to animals gives one such perspective..."

"Fear of Dragons" by glitzfrau. Caspian/Edmund, PG13, set during VotDT. Original flavor up the wazoo! I like how it ends -- it feels right.
Edmund said indignantly, "But you're a splendid King! We are most pleased with your works, and find you a fit Lord to reign - " and stopped, slightly embarrassed. The old, lordly style of address was becoming easier in his mouth, but he still felt an awful chump when he used it. What would the chaps at school say if they heard?
